A low tech way is to just use the normal menu options as though you were using any other android device.
So for system updates you can go to Settings and System updates For app updates just go to GooglePlay and update them from there. Be careful though that the box hasn't been set up in a specific way to work with the version of Android/Kodi. For some reason I can no longer watch shows in full HD since manually updating Kodi as it won't go full screen. |

The box will most likely be stuck on the version of android it comes with, any system updates usually just fix security issues or general bugs. It might also have a older version of XMBC-kodi that already has a lot of the addons already installed (usually advertised as fully loaded) You can easily install the latest version of Kodi 15.2 from the play store or sideload the apk file.
There might also be custom roms for it but I wouldn't bother with them, the only thing I did with my Minix X8-H Plus was root it with SuperSU so I could use Ad Away, even then the only app I really use on it is Kodi. There are loads of builds that you can install on Kodi that are complete with addons like The Beast (over 1GB in size) TheBlackBoxOsTV (smaller & the one I use) & so on. If you want you can do a factory reset on it but that will likely leave it in the state it came in or you might lose some apps or the addons in Kodi. Enjoy the box though, I wish I had got one sooner

Sorry to hijack the thread,
Banzibaby, What addon do you recommend for the EPL in resonable quality for free? I have tried sportsdevil but what few links work are very poor quality. Thanks, |

Thanks for that BanziBaby,
The quality doesn't look too bad. With so many addons, it's hard to see the wood for the trees.

Phoenix is good for newer things and live tv, SALTS is also good but can be a pain, in the way it acquires the links. 3 Amigos is also pretty good. Your better off sticking with a few good sources than having 100's like a lot of these boxes have, but don't work.

I prefer the Nvidia Shield myself - it can run Kodi, it probably has the best hardware (and is 4K ready if you ever buy a 4K TV), and you can guarantee it won't have any dodgy software on it

^^ Agree just bought one the other day to compliment my fire tv. Gaming streaming on the Nvidia Grid is also very good and a plus point for the box.

side issue: I put Kodi on my Amazon Fire with the Genesis video add-ons that includes a package called Football, which expands into numerous European & other leagues & includes the EPL. When I looked last night to see who was being shown (was watching Newcastle on BT at the time) the list was the same as at the weekend with no new matches listed. Is there a Refresh that I'm missing? Or does it require a cache clear?

^^ Sorry but Genesis is RIP at the moment. You need Phoenix and the Woody channel within it.

But then, to be fair, I wasn't even aware that Genesis had a sports add-on. |

I've installed kodi on my laptop. I hardly use it but when I do I prefer to download an mp4 file via Genesis rather than stream for smoother playback.
Are there any add ons other than Genesis that have a download feature? I already know about Origin which is just a modified Genesis. |

install blackboxostv within Kodi, that installs all add ons and sets up the home screen to a nice pre set up screen.

I have just installed Kodiflix onto my Android TV box, looks really nice having a Netflix style layout for everything, even gives a synopsis on anything you highlight.

I use standard Kodi on my Fire Tv but on the Shield I've just installed Kodiflix it's a very nice interface and as the name suggests it sets up much like Netflix.
It looks good on the reviews, more user friendly than say The Beast. A good add on is Ares Wizard, installs add ons without the need to faff with url's/install from zip etc. |

I like the look of Kodiflix. Does it automatically select the best source for the content you choose or are you still given a list of sources to choose from ?
