Haha - I know all this, I have a degree in Music Technology. That's how I know a few of them were mixed and mastered first.
I'm not denying that they're good singers - they definitely are. It's just the quality of the overall sound was too glossy and perfect, meaning they were pre recorded and mimed.
When a mic is moved around in your hand, here there and everywhere, this is reflected right away and can even cause feedback. Only trained professional singers know how to hold a mic steady and calm to get a stable level. Darren's was all over the place but the levels didn't change it all.
