This is one of yhose John Lennon moments for me, born in 1966 I grew up listening to his music and his death has come completely out of the blue for most of us, we hadn't even been aware he was ill. He released his latest album on Friday and had his 69th birthday on Friday, a birthday he had shared with Elvis.

RIP David Bowie, you were, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best.

A true legend.

The following lyrics are from the last track on his new album which was released just last friday,

"The blackout hearts, the flowered news/With skull designs upon my shoes."

Celebrity deaths don't usually bother me much but Bowie was so much more than a celebrity. He was a bona fide legend. What a showman, what a gentleman. This is genuinely shocking

Absolutely gutted by the news, love the new album and was hoping he might tour again so I had one last chance to see him live. At least I had the privilege of seeing him perform many many times and can cherish the memories

This has really shocked me. I have very fond memories of seeing him in 1983 at Milton Keynes.

Jesus Christ. What a thing to wake up to. Just released his best work in 20 years, too. We can't have lost Lemmy and Bowie in the space of a fortnight. That hardly seems fair. Jesus.

A real, real shocker.

Its no understatement to say he was such an icon, and in recent years, he was really regarded as a music great, and then when 'The Next Day' was released, this really cemented this.

RIP, David Robert Jones.

I was fortunate enough to see Bowie twice, in 2002 and 2003.

He will live on through his music.

I'm in complete shock. David Bowie was a genius! I was only just watching his videos again recently and listening to his new album. Unbelieveable! RIP David.

Unique, charimatic, innovative and intriguing ....... David Bowie, doubt we will see his like again.

Such a shock but that was his life, whatever he did he shocked and captivated us, his last act has done that.

"I've heard a rumour from Ground Control ..... Oh no, don't say it's true"
. RIP David Bowie.

Condolences to his family.

I'm on double shock. Not only has my icon/idol died but about 50% of the people I work with have never heard of him
