I'm wondering if his ex-wife Angie will be told. Not that I watch the stupid programme, but she's in the Big Brother house at the moment and obviously will not know.

Seriously sad this morning at the news. Like most people he was a massive influence on my musical tastes growing up in the 1970s and 80s when he was at his most creative.

Blackstar is a truly stunning swan song, the lyrics on each song take on that much more resonance now that it's clear he knew and yet he continued to be the incredible artist he always was. I feel very privileged to have been able to appreciate his artistry over the years and I think now I will go and immerse myself in Low, my personal favourite album. Rest in peace, Starman.

Very sad news, he was someone who those often over used words 'legend' and 'icon' really applied to.

Up pops Cameron with a tribute. Did Mrs T make any comment when John Lennon died (who incidentally has the same birthday as Cameron, October 9th)?

As I said in the Showbiz forum, he was a true pioneer in music and completely unique. I've been in shock all morning and have cried a little, and I almost never feel much when it comes to celebrity deaths.
I do feel David Bowie was something incredibly special though, the likes of which we'll never see again. |

I'd be very surprised if she wasn't told. Ok it may be his ex wife rather than current wife, but surely you'd want to know and would care given you were with him, married to him. Would also expect her to be allowed out to his funeral (yes ok it risks her finding out about things going on in the outside world, but if she wants to go, she should be allowed to by the show, even if it means she has to leave the show for good).

The world loses one of the few remaining true superstars of music. A genius that will be sadly missed from the commercialism of today's music scene in which stars are manufactured.

Really sad news, he was one of the British music industry's biggest ever stars. RIP David Bowie.

I am genuinely gutted. I was a bit too young to remember his initial stardom, but he was just always there growing up, even if it was just a photo in 'Look-In' magazine or a glimpse on TOTP. The first song which really resonated with me was 'Ashes to Ashes' (plus the video, of course) and I became a fan in my teens when I was beginning to listen to non-contemporary stuff. (Started with The Beatles, then The Kinks, then Dylan...obviously was going to get around to David.)
Bought 'Hunky Dory' on vinyl second hand, loved it, then went from there, really. So much talent, so many great songs. Hearing the awful news caused a huge amount of memories involving him to be evoked. The first time I listened to 'Aladdin Sane', the first time I saw The Man Who Fell to Earth', the first time I got into a heated exchange with a mate about his best period! Lots of others I wont go on about. Sad day. Someone special and talented and influential is gone. But he was creating right up until the end. Gawd bless you, your family, friends and all your personas Mr Bowie. 'Legend' can be overused sometimes. Not here. RIP. |

I'm only 23 but I've grown up with his music because my mum is a fan. I liked some of his stuff too. I only started to appreciate his music a couple of years ago.
I'm genuinely saddened to hear of his death. |

Well done Ted, the DS GD forum live news feed beating the BBC and Guardian by 10 minutes.
Sad news though. 😔 RIP. Anyway, this is about the grief at the loss of a great person who gave pleasure to millions, and a family in grief, not about juvenile, petty comments about media response times. He was my favourite singer, bar none - an important part of my life for over 40 years and it hurts, badly. Despite all the music I have to cope with the fact that there will be no more new delights and challenges. No doubt Julian one day you'll find out for yourself, sadly. |

Shocked.
![]() Was listening to R4 this morning and thought they were talking about his birthday ( which was a few days ago) and new album. Didn't realise Bowie had actually died until they mentioned it at the end. There was an interesting exhibition of his clothes and memorabilia at the V&A a few years ago. Love his music. |

RIP David Bowie.
I actually saw one of his new music videos the other day and was shocked at how frail he looked in it, but I didn't think he was seriously ill which he obviously was filming that. |

Thank you Radio 6.
From 7am this morning, Bowie songs, interviews, collaborations and some heart wrenching tributes and memories from members of the public. The man was loved.

I found it so great to see a good selection of his costumes; his debut album that he released in 1967; the grains of rice to represent all the children born in 1947 and a video of him appearing on TOTP performing "Starman" if I'm correct. I also seem to remember that the sound was provided by the German company, Sennheiser.

One of those pop stars who's always seemed to have been around during my many decades of life! Embarrassed that I never knew that he'd changed his name to avoid a clash with Davey Jones of the Monkees. David Jones - very Welsh!!
Even went to see Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence at the cinema and I rarely went in the early 80s!! Edit: He was a big sci-fi fan too of course. I think he was pretty nerdy at heart. If he'd been young today he'd have been heavily into Cosplay I bet!! |
