Hi,

I just wondered if it was possible to get an audio feed back from my TV (in kitchen) back to the amp under my stairs that powers speakers in the kitchen? The idea came to me when i noticed the sonos could allow an input and I thought I could fit a songs connect up to the back of the tv and input into it but I felt this was a rather expensive way of getting the audio form one place to another.

Any ideas or suggestions please as I am unable to run a cable due to the location of the TV.

There are Bluetooth kits that will connect to an analogue line output. So the first thing to do is to convert the TV's optical output (presuming it has one) to stereo phono (red & white) using one of the inexpensive "optical to analogue" converters you'll find on Amazon and the web for under £20. Then A quick look on Amazon will give you a roundup of the mainstream BT products. LINK

A word of advice; make sure whichever BT product you buy has an easy returns policy. A lot of the cheaper BT transmitters are quite flaky at distance. I have a client who tried this as a DIY solution. He has been through a couple of cheap transmitters (£7-£15) and one more expensive one at around £30 and still found that they struggle with the 7m transmission distance he required. I am now fitting Sonos for him. Their Connect (ZP90) has a line input, so that will connect to his Avid turntable going via the Astin Trew amp. He'll be using a couple of the Play 1 speakers in the remote locations. In your situation you'll need two Connects. Sonos is great gear but that does seem like a very large sledge hammer to crack this particular nut.

Yeah that's what I thought regarding sonos. I already have one next to the amp under the stairs so I didn't really fancy having to buy another at £250 just to do this simple job.

You reckon that bluetooth send will do the job after I've converted the optical to analogue?

Does any of the this kit need plugging into power at the TV end as I have one socket spare before putting on extension leads?

Is there a receiver at the other end needed or are these part of the the kit?

Maybe an AV sender could? Just use the red & white phonos from the TV on the transmitter and the corresponding phonos on the receiver to your Sonos.

There is kit designed for this type of application, so yes. There's a two or three of caveats to be aware of though. I've already mentioned range; it's very site dependent. You might also find that the kit struggles to hold a connection. That's as much to do with where the stuff is positioned as it is with price. Any kind of wireless TX and RX gear will work better in the middle of the floor (exactly where we don't want it ) than it will do stuffed in a cupboard or tucked behind some gear or hard up against a wall. The other thing is audio delay. It takes time to digitise the analogue signal in the BT transmitter and unpack it at the other end. The result is an audio lag. The best description to help visualise it is "half a word behind".

I've been mulling over the options and suggestions here. I'm not sure the Bluetooth sending and receiving will be reliable enough or the AV sender. Is there any other way of doing it? Would using a second sonos connect box (next to the tv) be the best/most reliable way to get it into my system?

Are there other options of getting the audio feedback to my amp under the stairs that can the go directly into my amp?

The signal from basic A/V senders is wiped out by microwave ovens, even a neighbours in my experience. Have you asked this before as the thread sounds familiar?

I was planning to send the AV originally but following advice on here I had an aerial feed run to it. Good HD picture on it now but the sound is poor as always with an LED tv. Problem is I have no way of running a cable from the TV back to the amp/Sonos connect under the stairs so looking at other options.
