EE is experiencing technical problems with its calls and signals nationwide - but says other networks are also affected.

A company spokesman said: "We're aware customers from EE (and other networks) are having issues calling landlines. We're investigating urgently."

The company apologised to one Twitter user and said its network would be up and running "as soon as possible".

It said in the tweet: "The EE Network is currently experiencing national technical issues regarding calls and signal.

"Our engineers are fully aware of the problem and they are working to fix it as we speak.

"Apologies for the inconvenience, the network will be up and running as soon as possible."

A representative replied to another Twiiter user to say resolving the problem was "priority one".

More follows...
I tried to call somebody earlier on EE and the call just hung and didn't go through, it did nothing for 30s just sat there, then I retried and it went through.

Anyone had issues?

O2 also affected. It's a known issue with the core BT network at present.

Nothing from my end, handsets on Three, EE, Vodafone and O2 are working ok for me. Calls, texts, data are going through fine, I assume the outage is sporadic?

Could be area dependent. Pretty sure they use Virgin Media Business in some areas, whether that would alleviate it a bit I don't know.

O2 status checker says

We are aware of an issue where some O2 customers may be experiencing difficulties making calls from their mobile to EE mobiles and to landline numbers. BT, our fixed line partner, have confirmed they are investigating a problem within their network and we apologise for any inconvenience.

EE, O2, Giffgaff, BT Mobile customers cut off as mobile networks fail
BT cockup believed to be at heart of TITSUP communication

Brits using mobile networks EE, O2, Giffgaff, and BT Mobile are unable to make calls this evening, UK time, amid an ongoing network breakdown.

Judging from complaints online, subscribers cannot make outgoing calls, and some can't receive any, either. It appears the fault lies in the BT national network.

"There seems to be what looks like a fairly major technical issue with some UK mobile networks right now," said one source.

EE said it is aware its phone network isn't working properly, and said "engineers are working on the issue and will resolve as soon as possible."

Giffgaff, meanwhile, is reporting that its customers are unable to make any outgoing calls to landlines, mobiles outside of O2's network, and calls to 0800 numbers are currently down.

The Norfolk DAB mux fell off the air this morning, due to VM circuit failures.

We had a momentary blip on DAB this afternoon here in Cambridgeshire, maybe it was the same thing lol.

Anyway, off topic a tad

It could well have been, a lot of the local DAB muxes are assembled at Croydon and delivered to the transmitters by VM circuits. There are more single points of failure
that are common to more than one telco around. The BT exchange in York that
flooded took out Vodafone's service in the city too (and well as taking both local radio stations off the air)

Giff Gaff's website is down as well. Could be a co-incidence.

Odd how Voda and Three are unaffected. Wonder why it's only happening to O2 and EE?

That's a weekly occurrence anyway isn't it lol.

I think the cleaner has plugged the hoover in, when she's done she'll probably plug the pentium 4 back in.

Outgoing calls (more info TBC) Unavailable for some members

Summary

We are experiencing some unexpected issues and have to put the website on our outage server for a short time to sort it. Members will be unable to access various website services while we fix this.

I take it EE have routed around the issue, but giffgaff probably don't have the redundant links to be able to do some of the things a network like EE can do.

All large networks would have a network engineering team which would respond to a major issue like this and route around it if possible. Three has redundant bandwidth providers and multiple break out points as I'm sure most do. However BT are huge and it can cause quite a big issue if a major link is down. I guess it depends where in the network it goes down in relation to where the network's datacentres are and which providers and backups they have in place.

Voda use a lot of C&W infrastructure, thus bypassing BT.

Lets all just blame Plymouthbloke and leave it at that.

Well yes, Vodafone bought C&W in 2012, (a marriage made in heaven !)

Shame they don't use Apple Magnetic cables.

Turns out BT said strongly "not us at fault" after initially getting the blame for this.

Seems it was an EE issue, anyone know what failed / caused it?

So how did it also affect o2? They also had the same problems.
