I've enjoyed the series very much _ albeit a bit soapy.

A bit Maddied out the last couple of weeks - I wouldn't care if she headed off somewhere (anywhere) to pursue her career. Missed Juliette this week.

I've found this series pretty boring actually. Loads of misery but without the drama. Gunnar and his new love are boring, Deacon is depressing and childish and Will's struggle needs some highs as well as lows.

I assume these are the episodes made when poor Hayden was suffering with post-natal depression and had to be written out for a bit.

The show really misses her.

Scarlett's chap is such a tosser.

Too true, that's how I felt. It was too much doom and gloom and not enough music and fun.

I think the christian guy is going to be a closet case and try it on with Will.

Nashville is still enjoyable for the music, though even that has been tweaked over the four seasons and lost a lot of its distinctiveness. For example Gunnar's latest song was nothing like a "real" Gunnar song, it was just a singalong joke.

There's a good rant about how badly Nashville lost its way on Yahoo's TV site, including this about how the producers/showrunners ruined Rayna:

The greatest waste in Nashville has been the steady misuse of Rayna James. She should have been the central figure of the series — a strong but flawed woman (artist, mother, wife, lover, business-person) who faced down a succession of tough life and work challenges. Instead, the show turned her into the shoulder everyone wanted to cry on, the sad-faced sympathizer who periodically had to pull herself together to try and make her new label a going concern. - https://www.yahoo.com/tv/nashville-r...172704979.html

I couldn't agree more with that rant. There are other articles stating that from early on the show was going through some sort of identity crisis as it couldn't decide if it wanted to be a show about the ups and downs of the music industry or a show where a character's parentage was being explored. Connie Britton also admitted that she was never a fan of the 'Rayna car crash' storyline that ended Season 1 and started Season 2.

From what I've seen/read so far about Season 5 both the cast and crew seem really happy with the move to CMT so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out since everyone is really talented.

Better this week (UK pace). More, and better, music. Less moping from Scarlett and a positive storyline for Will. The ending was predictable but satisfying. A partial return to form.

So good to have Juliette back. Hayden plays her wonderfully. And Alicia Witt as a lovely brucie bonus. That woman has aged so well.

One day I'm going to go back over all 4 seasons and tot up the number of people Deacon has apologised to. Saw the one to his bartender buddy coming a mile off!

I agree it's good to have Hayden back

I assume that the fact the producers are going back to basics for season 5 means the ratings for season 4 haven't been great? It's great that Hayden is back though, I've missed Juliette.

The show's Twitter account has revealed that the first hour of the 2-hour Season 5 premiere will air on CMT on December 15th:

Really hope season 5 gets back to what Nashville was and how in the hell can maddie get emancipated from her parents. Surely only severe neglect or abuse will even get it to court and she's suffered neither.

Guessing we are a long way behind the US screenings? They are starting season 5 in Jan and we haven't even finished season 4 yet. I won't hold my breath any time soon to see series 5 here.......

Well season 4 started in Aug so I expect season 5 will be around the time.

Yes, thanks, that was my thinking so.

Annoying that we are so far behind the US broadcast with this one. Other series such as Westworld were broadbast a mere days behind the US transmissions.

Oh well, as long as Juliette survives. Poor Layla lol

Part of the delay in airing season four can probably be attributed to the UK rights changing from the Channel 4 group to Sky. No telling how long Sky will make us wait for season five though.

Last Thursday's was one of the worst Nashville-by-numbers episodes yet. Every scene was will-they-won't-they or will-she-won't-she and there was almost no tension because the show is so predictable we knew all along how it would end.

The emancipation plot is daft. Doubtless others know how it turns out but I can't believe a judge or even a lawyer would take her claim seriously.

Well going by tonight's episode the judge did and Deacon didn't help at all.

It was quite frustrating to see Deacon fall for the "trap", I was watching through my fingers when he went to The Beverly.

I look forward to Cash getting some kind of a commpuence and Maddie realising the mistake she has made too late and also facing some sort of career based problem, such as being stuck in a bad contract and unable to release music or something similar. Hopefully at the same time Daphne has some amazing success via Higway 65. That'll learn her!

Deacon was such an idiot.

It was great to see a little glimpse of old Juliette again.

I love this program. Are we going to get the new series over here as it has now been picked up by someone else in the US. I really hope so.
