I think it has a been great season and its sad to think that it will be all over next week. Only 4 remain I really want Trent to be the winner.

Is anyone on American pace? I couldn't resist the finale seeing as I know spoilers will be about anyway.

I enjoyed the finale, really good to see all the past contestants being the centre of attention. Had a smile on my face all the while watching it. Noticed many missing contestants though, like Crystal Bowersox, Adam Lambert, Syesha Mercado, Jason Castro, Josh Gracin, Matt Giraud, etc. The right person won I think. Good coronation song, one of the better ones, though not as good as Phillip Phillips' Home.

No Spoilers!
I was intrigued right at the very end when a very emotional Ryan Seacrest said "One more time.....We say to you from Hollywood........Goodnight America.............(long pause).........For now.

Quite funny and weird how all the major UK networks appart from the BBC (ITV, ch5, ch4) have owned American idol at some point in its run. Yes the TV channels may have shown it on their digital channels but funny how no other reality show and thinking about it any show has gone round all commercial networks. They all wanted a piece of that pie! shows you the power of idol! Best memories are Friday nights after the soaps on itv2 and they showed it all in full on Friday nights no matter how many episodes gad been on that week in USA. Friday nights will always be the real UK home of American idol to me

So happy Trent though im sad it has ended because it was my favourite singing TV programme it was the best when it was on ITV2 every Friday evening.

I do hope one day they will bring it back because it was a great show.

Just got round to catching up with the final three episodes. I thought that it was typical of the editing this year that while there were still three contestants there was a trailer for the finale showing the two finalists.

I was surprised that Trent won (as were the judges I think) as La'Pasha had been promoted as the winner all the way through, and I thought she sang better in the final. I can't see Trent doing well after Idol - did his single get into the top 100 on iTunes (I can't see it there now)?

I thought the finale was very well done - in previous years they had brought in random stars who had no connection to the show. It was good to see again singers whose names I vaguely remembered. I thought Jessica Sanchez did best out of the less successful alumni.

It is interesting to see how well (or not) the various contestants have done since appearing on Idol. No surprise that the winners with the most sales are Carrie and Kelly, nor that the last two winners with album sales (season 12 and 13) have struggled to sell records. The list of sales follows:

I agree with your surprise at Trent winning, although I had liked him a lot from the very start. Mind you, I have often been surprised at the eventual winner of AI !! To this day I am astounded that Fantasia won Season 3 - her voice is like fingernails down a blackboard for me! - i was backing LaToya London that year!

I absolutely loved the finale show with all the old names from AI, so lovely to see, and hear, them all again.

xx

I agree that LaToya should have done better - but her record sales since the show have not been good. Fantasia for me could be wonderful sometimes and really bad at others.

We really liked Dalton. Trent has been pretty likeable from the start though, so no complaints about him winning. Was a pretty good final four to be honest.

Hopefully it will return in some form maybe after a year off - Ryan's little '...for now...' certainly seemed to suggest it could come back in some form. In theory, talent shows have always come back around, and in this case with a brand as strong as AI, if it does come back, may as well retain that.

Ratings were OK this year as far as I know, and Fuller and the judges have all suggested they'd be up for more.

Cheesy and formulaic as these shows are, there invariably always are good people in it, with some great performances and good banter with the judges. Its a winning combination that will always find some viewers.

Trent went up to No. 3 on iTunes I think. I'm afraid La'Porsha sold poorly, MacKenzie Bourg who finished fourth sold much better than she did (he also reached No. 3 on iTunes). I think the best hope for La'Porsha is to go the Christian music route, like Mandisa (especially considered her attitude towards gays).

Though the series was already finished, I'm actually shocked MacKenzie didn't make it to the top 2.

even though i thought the standard was pretty high i did actually give up on it when they got to the last 4 as i had zero interest in any of them and i felt they were all just a bit bland

we had the diva doing vocal gymnastics

the one-trick pony, lets slow down a well known up-tempo song and make it your own

the poor man's billie joe armstrong who was about as edgy as a kitten

and there was just something incredibly smug about trent that i found off-putting

Even though the show had a pretty great top 4 compared to previous 3 seasons, but I don't see any of Trent and La'Porsha have a successful career after the show, probably one or two albums that won't even make it to the top 10.
