What an insulting comment!
![]() pandemonium is not in the top 20,000 most used words in English. incarceration isn't in the top 12,000. Incarceration sounds better than saying being banged up.

Don't suppose many would use those words in their daily lives, but now that she's heard of them, she might start saying them.
Incarceration sounds better than saying being banged up. ![]() I doubt it. I don't think she keeps company with anyone who can string a sentence together. |

Not wanting to get political (small p) but the twenty somethings of today who went to state school were educated through a "National Curriculum" . Introduced in 1988 it prescribed the content and pace of the curriculum for all 6 to 14 yr olds. What was to be taught and when in the child's education program. The knowledge base of the youth of today is the direct result of that "broad and balanced curriculum". Introduced by the Conservatives and fiddled with continually since by all parties.
See what you get when you replace the professionals input with politicians. We are doing the same with the NHS. Though not completely an excuse the knowledge base of the youth was not their decision. ![]() ![]() I'm 27 and have a good vocabulary in spite of my limited education. It's down to the individual really. I enjoy reading but a lot of my generation probably doesn't. It seems to have gone out of fashion for whatever reason. |

Absolutely
Young girls in particular seem to think that acting dumb is somehow attractive They've yet to realise that once they've got past the shag it's nice to be able to have a conversation Thankfully my daughter is not one of these girls With a couple of males in the house, displaying the same symptoms, i fail to see how this is an issue that particularly affects women? |

Not sure if guys get a free pass, or women are just judged harsher or pigeon holed easier. Or somewhere in between!

She's a 23 year old woman and she had to ask what "pandemonium" and "incarceration" meant.. Also after being told, 5 minutes later the word came out again and she said "what does that mean"
My wife is Polish, only been here 10 years and she knew what it meant and could even spell them. Why are so many young British women so thick Pandemonium is of course where they incarcerate pandas. And Incarceration is what they do to pandas when they put them in the pandemonium. Innit.

I'm not saying there aren't dimwitted blokes out there , or ones that pretend they are I think it's down the constant images of pouting , vacant looking women on social media. Very sad. It's down to parents and schools to make brains and intelligence cool. |

I still think of it as more of a trend for younger people in general though. |

I wish all these young ones would just disappear, they're all the same. Add nothing to the show.

She also thinks it's still the 20th century. How can anyone with an education be so stupid ?

Those are relatively obscure words; I don't think that not knowing them means someone is especially thick.

They're not that obscure, you may have just proved my point
![]() ![]() It's often difficult to judge whether someone's vocabulary is good or bad based on just a couple of words. Anyone who fancies testing their vocab against the supposed level of graduates could try this: http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/tests/WordMeanings.htm (I got 42. Let's see if any of you puissant termagants can beat that. )To be honest if we're getting to the point where not knowing what 'pandemonium' and 'incarceration' mean is shocking, BB has had a bit of an upturn in standards. It's not really up there with Jade's escape goat and optical courses, or Ashleigh bb13 thinking that blind people can see in the dark. Not to mention Danny's cunnoo. (I'm excluding Brian B as he was so obviously putting it on much of the time.) Mind you, people not knowing what 'decisive' means or thinking it's still the 20th century - that's a bit dense by any standards. |
