Don't suppose many would use those words in their daily lives, but now that she's heard of them, she might start saying them. Incarceration sounds better than saying being banged up.

You don't have to use words regularly to know their meanings though.

I doubt it. I don't think she keeps company with anyone who can string a sentence together.

I'm 27 and have a good vocabulary in spite of my limited education.

It's down to the individual really. I enjoy reading but a lot of my generation probably doesn't. It seems to have gone out of fashion for whatever reason.

With a couple of males in the house, displaying the same symptoms, i fail to see how this is an issue that particularly affects women?

It's really not. In fact more girls are university educated than boys. As with a lot of things though men seem to get a free pass with this sort of thing.

Not sure if guys get a free pass, or women are just judged harsher or pigeon holed easier. Or somewhere in between!

Was different in our day. We all had PhDs by the time we were twelve. Helped tremendously with all the manual labour..

My wife is Polish, only been here 10 years and she knew what it meant and could even spell them.

Why are so many young British women so thick”

I'm a male well over twice her age. Heaven forfend I should ever try to get through life without such knowledge.

Pandemonium is of course where they incarcerate pandas. And Incarceration is what they do to pandas when they put them in the pandemonium.

Innit.

I posted young girls in 'particular'
I'm not saying there aren't dimwitted blokes out there , or ones that pretend they are

I think it's down the constant images of pouting , vacant looking women on social media. Very sad. It's down to parents and schools to make brains and intelligence cool.

Fair enough, i hear ya.
I still think of it as more of a trend for younger people in general though.

I wish all these young ones would just disappear, they're all the same. Add nothing to the show.

Now now, no need to be captious.

It's often difficult to judge whether someone's vocabulary is good or bad based on just a couple of words. Anyone who fancies testing their vocab against the supposed level of graduates could try this:
http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/tests/WordMeanings.htm

(I got 42. Let's see if any of you puissant termagants can beat that. )

To be honest if we're getting to the point where not knowing what 'pandemonium' and 'incarceration' mean is shocking, BB has had a bit of an upturn in standards. It's not really up there with Jade's escape goat and optical courses, or Ashleigh bb13 thinking that blind people can see in the dark. Not to mention Danny's cunnoo. (I'm excluding Brian B as he was so obviously putting it on much of the time.)

Mind you, people not knowing what 'decisive' means or thinking it's still the 20th century - that's a bit dense by any standards.
