Hi Guys,

With all this rain, and me being a bit of a doofus I have managed to drop my iPhone 5s in a huge puddle, what with these lovely dark nights, I couldn't even see it straight away.

So I've cleaned all of the dirt off the screen and used a cotton bud in the charging port and headphone socket, then i've left it is a bag of rice for over 48 hours now ... but you've guessed it the speakers aren't working properly and the screen isn't working properly.

Any advice on what else I can try or do I have to bite the bullet and go to an actual repair shop? My missus keeps teasing me that I am going to need to shell out for a new phone.

Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

ED

48 hours isn't long enough, especially if you haven't dismantled the phone and dried all the internal components.

If you aren't comfortable taking it apart (at least removing the LCD, battery and main board) you probably should get help with it. Even once disassembled I would be putting in rice (or even better silica gel) and putting it somewhere warm for at least 10 days or doing an almost complete disassemble and then using a hairdryer on all the bits.

if you have an apple store nearby you could go and see the genius bar, and tell them its fallen in a puddle. They will usually offer you an service exchange replacement for £100 to £120 type price. You could pay less at other repair shops but then have to make multiple trips to have various parts replaced over the next 6 months and spend more.

Its a gamble, and insurance (or AppleCare+ for accidental) is worth having.

Out of warranty replacement is £199 in an Apple Store.

Ouch thats gone up, and £206.44 for iPhone 5/5s/5c on that link., and £236 for iPhone 6. My friend who had a swap for £110 was getting a discount from the Genius bar then.
