Hi there,

I have 3 batteries for my Galaxy S5 (bought 2 spares when I first got the phone over 18 months ago) and thought I would buy a new battery as I suspect they may be getting old.

I bought it off a seller on Amazon, the reviews look really good and also it came in packaging and even the plastic battery holder, so I suspect it may be genuine, but when using the phone after the first charge the battery percentage is dropping around 1% every 1.5mins (just browsing the Internet with fairly low brightness on the screen). I worked out it would give me 2.5 hours of Internet browsing from a full charge.

I think this is slightly worse than the other batteries I have and just wondering if it may just need a few charge cycles?

I did get a duff battery a couple of months back, but that obviously looked a fake as it came with no packaging, only 4 out of 5 on Amazon reviews and the it was dropping about 1% every 30secs.

What capacity is the battery?

You should be able to get 10+ hours of WiFi web browsing with moderate screen brightness from a full charge on a heathy standard Samsung battery.

The market is awash with counterfeit Samsung accessories (some are very good copies), it's more likely to be fake than faulty if bought from the Marketplace.

They sat it's a genuine Samsung one and looks it, but you never know nowadays.

It's a 2,800mAh one.

It's down to 62% this morning after coming off charge at 9pm last night and an hour of so's Web browsing last night and 15mins this morning.

I'm guessing it's fake, but would a few charges help?

Depends on the quality of the cells used, you can only try and see.

Speaking of counterfeits, I've seen some counterfeit Samsung phones that cannot be seen as fake by sight they are so good, they are even faking the specs in the about device menu. The only way to tell them as fake is to load an app like Phone Info *Samsung*.

They seem to be getting so clever nowadays.

Will prob give it a couple of days to see, but looking like it's a fake as down to 54% now and hardly used it.

Of course, the other thing to check is that there isn't anything running on the phone that is causing battery drain.

Thanks, but like I say the old batteries seemed to be better.

Just to update that the battery did not seem to be draining as fast this afternoon and finally gave in around 4pm.

That was after using it a fair bit today with over 3 hours of Google maps and it was only dropping about 1% in the end every 3 mins with Google Maps running along with playing a podcast over Bluetooth.

Will give it a full charge tonight (have put a spare in for the mean time).

HTC and LG in the past have said battery life would improve in the short term as it would be "conditioned", in essence charging it makes it better after the few few days or so.

I haven't known Samsung to ever issue advice like that, but then I don't even know if the claims from HTC or LG are bullshit.

That said I would only ever buy batteries from reputable sellers, not some on ebay or in the amazon market place.

Is more expensive, seeing as it is supplied directly from Samsung and Amazon selling it, you can be sure of its authenticity.

I wouldn't leave it unattended while it charges if there's a chance it's a fake...

Cheers for that.

I'm starting to think it's a genuine one as it got better towards yesterday afternoon.

I fully charged it and took it off charge around 9pm last night and used it a fair bit last night and this morning and it's down to 76% now, so I'm thinking it is a genuine one.

I've checked it a few times when I first charged it to make sure that it was not getting too warm.

The samsung galaxy s2 I have suffers a lot from battery and CPU overheating plus a rapid draining battery. Even though you have the same apps running on the s2 as per other samsung galaxy phones that seem to not suffer from such issues.

Sometimes the s2 phone shuts down at 80% due to battery and CPU overheat. Switch it back on moments later and the battery is suddenly down to 15%.

Is it a battery or device issue re: the s2?

Do you charge your phone when switched on or switched off?

Actually, original battery is the best option. I had same kind of charge problem with my old battery then I brought a battery from the showroom of Samsung. It was not same as original battery but it was quite good.
