iOS: Apps failing when updating
I bought a new iPhone 6 Plus back in September and this is the first time I have owned an iPhone having had Android devices up until now. A few times now, when an app is receiving an update, it seems to fail half way through (whereby the app icon is partly greyed out with an incomplete circle) and there's no way of fixing it. Even if you go into the App Store and force through the update, it updates it fully but then says it needs to update. The way I fix it is to uninstall the app and then reinstall it.
It happened yesterday with my First Direct app. I had to uninstall it and now annoyingly I can't use the app until I ring up First Direct and get them to deauthorise the previous app and let me install the new one as it obviously thinks it is a new install. Annoying. is this a common bug on iOS? Thanks |

It is common now, never had the problem with iOS versions 4 to 8.
The problem still persists in the 9.3 beta software so it's still not fixed...yet. Many others with the same problem. http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/...air-2.1935869/ |

So not common in my experience! Mind you I STILL find it annoying that the "app update circle" refers to the download only and the installation timer is shown only on the app's own icon.....it means that, if watching the update screen, the app upodate does seem to stall after the filled circle! |

Its more likely your data connection (3G/4G or WiFi) is being interrupted or slowed somewhere between your phone and Apple's data centres in UK/Europe. |

iOS 9.2 is certainly buggy.

It's been happening since before 9.2.

iOS itself is buggy. This idea that it is far less buggy than Android is just crap.

I don't think I have ever seen this in 3 years of updating apps on two iPhones (my old iPhone 5 and the present 6)!
So not common in my experience! |

Generally easier to get updates to iOS however. How many Androids are running 6 today? Tiny percentage, sadly.
iOS has definitely become more buggy over the last year or two. Back in the iOS 5 days it was rock-solid all the time. |

True but KitKat for instance is very, very stable, so updates for it would improve security not stability.
iOS has definitely become more buggy over the last year or two. Back in the iOS 5 days it was rock-solid all the time. It could be faulty hardware. Influential people used to tell me Windows was unstable and always blue screened, and I found usually they meant their laptop and they dropped it often so it had a cracked motherboard. Not really the OS at fault then. app updates is completely down to the network communication, I find lots of public WiFi is awful for it, and using 4G much more reliable - but iOS limits the size of apps you can download over cellular (for no reason in my view, in the UK). |

I haven't seen it either, and I've been updating multiple handsets since the iPhone 4. Currently got 5s, 6 and 6s and iPad 2, Air and Air 2 that I do the updates on.
OP, are you doing the updates via WiFi or over the mobile network? |

One solution to apps not installing on iPhone is to update apps in iTunes, connect phone and sync.
