Bland leads, boring fight scenes, not knowing best friend is in love with you cliche blahblahblah, and Freeform sounds like a female hygiene product making company. Meh.

Read the ep1 was a mess but ep2 is better so I'm sticking with it for another ep at least

- goes off to watch the movie again.

Managed twenty minutes. I can't see it getting sufficiently better for me to watch it.

I think I gave the movie about half an hour, before giving up.

too many closeups making it hard to see what's going on, cast are all so darn tall and the best-friend's "humorous" quips are getting most annoying

A few elements are good, but for the most part it's pretty shabby.

Love the books, really enjoyed the film but this is not good - I've seen both episodes and although the second is better it's not something I'd keep watching if I hadn't read the books.

Was quite optimistic during the opening scene - seemed pretty atmospheric and I can deal with the plot deviations from the book etc. It's just the acting/script! Really do not think the actress playing Clary is up to it and I think her character might be the weak point.

Watched this (both of them) yesterday, and it reminds me of the early Vampire Diaries episode; very teenage in nature. I'll stick with it for a while, cause I'm curious, but I've seen it all before. A few of these shows cropping up lately with this and Shanara. Would rather watch a show (of similar nature even) with adults, instead of teenagers as the characters.

I do believe this show (or series of books) has a large fan following, so that might contribute to it's success (or not).

Tried this, and it was dire. Like Buffy without the charm, witty scripting or halfway convincing plot. Avoid.

I didn't think it was that bad, but having read this thread first I was expecting it to be dire so perhaps that helped, pretty much followed the book so far, the only casting I am not sure of is Clary, think she's missing some of the strength and charm of the character and she is not a great actress for sure

Is it wise to watch the movie prior to the series? Just to get an idea of what the show is about.

you can but it doesn't matter the movie covered what is most likely going to happen in this series, that was panned by critics as well lol. I'm going to see where it goes and give it a chance but with all the negativity I'm not hopeful for a second season.

1.8 million for the premiere. Rather good start.

I've no idea about US viewing figures - is that genuinely a good showing?

Could be for the network it is being shown on. Also, those figures don't show the break down... maybe a big chunk of those 1.8mill are in the lucrative age-bracket with much money to spend and who are much beloved by advertisers.

Yes, for a small network like Freeform. Pretty Little Liars gets about 2 million.

So is watching the film (I haven't) the same story made into a series like the first series of From Dusk Till Dawn? Or is it completely different?

I'm finding it ok but hammy & now that Agent Carter, The Flash, Arrow & Legends of Tomorow all start this week it's not on my priorities list.

There's gonna be a difference between these 2 series since Shadowhunters is based on a book and the movie version (1) missed a bunch of stuff out and (2) changed a bunch of stuff. Having seen the movie and not read the books my concern would be if the series contains the same important plot happenings as shown in the movie meaning I know exactly what's gonna happen. I guess time will tell how different the series is to the movie and to the books.

My Tuesday US shows watch order list will probably be: Limitless, Marvel's Agent Carter, The Shannara Chronicles, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, NCIS, Chicago Fire and The Expanse when I've caught up. Only then will I check out Shadowhunters to see if it has improved.

Me too, limitless, really surprised me as a new series, love it!, NCIS is still good even after Kate & Ziva. Couldn't take to Chicago fire, will check out The Expanse, sounds interesting. I'm up to episode four of the Shannara and find it is ok (Not read the books)

I enjoyed the first episode way more than Shannara... I think it has plenty of potential.

I like how Netflix claim it's a "Netflix original" when it's actually nothing of the sort.

Not read the books nor seen the film. I'm way out of the target demo too but thought it was harmless enough.

As someone else mentioned, it's kinda Buffy lite.

That annoys me too Carl. In the US, the british show Happy Valley is classed as a Netflix Original, when it isn't. Same with The Fall. They should class it as a NETFLIX EXCLUSIVE.

Just watched the first two episodes and can't make my mind up yet. It was okay, that's about all I can say at the moment.
Not horrible but not brilliant either.

So is shadowhunters not worth watching then? Not wasting my time with shows that have no future.
