A bit of a delay watching this one because I had to finish Daredevil s1, OMG that show is good! I just love the character of Matt, and it's very interesting to watch a blind character on tv, there should be more imo. When done in good taste, it gives lots of opportunities for both serious thought-provoking scenes and humour. Definitely give it another go Karis, it's darker than SH or Lucifer but not in a depressing way. The cinematography is excellent as well.
JJ is amazing. I loved it (even though it was so dark (and even rapey dark which I did not appreciate at all).

But I've seen two episodes of DD and while I'm quite enjoying it, it hasn't gripped me at all... Not even sure why.

Turned on episode 3 and thought: "Meh. Not really bothered..."

As for Shadowhunters; it does get a lot slicker and more polished

I love both DD and JJ but they are massively different in both scope, scale and storytelling from Shadowhunters so I tend to not even think of them as being in the same space, if that makes sense?

Marvel's television universe has created some of the most compelling story telling I've seen including Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD because they accept it's part of their wider universe, opposed to DC which seems determined to keep it all separate and mess things up.

Shadowhunters is light froth in the same vein as Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl etc but just set in a more fantasy environment.

As a PS, have some new Malec

And a bit more of my (and yes I am claiming him ) gorgeous Matt Doyle as Juliette in Private Romeo (and the equally gorgeous Seth Numrich as Romeo) accompanied by Dire Straits of course

I agree, I only think of them together because they're all on Netflix and I'm watching them together.

I've gone off AoS a bit, I have the last few eps recorded but haven't watched yet. At its best it's phenomenal. Saw a couple of eps of Arrow and it didn't grab me, and the less said about the recent DC films the better

Disclaimer - excluding the Vertigo subsidiary of DC which produced my recent obsession Lucifer, and the also decent Constantine.

Just watched episode 5, it was another more confident episode. I like the introduction of the werewolves, especially Luke. Alec was a numpty again not telling about the wolf he saw, but I did feel sorry for him because he'd tried his best. He should also have put 2 and 2 together to see Simon is a vampire, although he seems half human at the moment, wonder how long that'll last?

Alec IS a numpty. Angry and moody and pouty!

I'm saying nothing...

But oh so very pretty

And pouty.

The show really does start to kick off from around episode 5 I think and you start to see a bit more cohesion in the story telling and less of the exposition as they've finally got round to putting all the pieces on the table.

Moo Shu To Go was when I think I first started to think that actually it might turn out to be a decent programme to watch.

We're having a re-watch, well Lowri's watching for the first time and Karis and I are being not at all helpful really with our comments

And I'm pimping out my new crush Matt Doyle, who is amazingly talented but has sod all to do with Shadowhunters

This is him aged 21 (back in 2008) doing a cover of Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna' Come and Otis Redding's Arms of Mine from the following year.

This is what he sounds like now, although it's a studio recording rather than live
But the whole album launch for Uncontrolled, if you're interested, is here.

I'm torn between wanting the whole world to know about him because he is so talented and wanting to keep him all to myself as he's currently probably only known by a good few thousand or so people who are Broadway fans

Watched 6 and 7 now, things are finally moving a bit faster! Not much to say about 6, Magnus is really starting to grow on me, and I liked the moment with the box going into the paper. Not really bothered by the politics of Alec's parents, found that a bit dull.

Episode 7 was the best so far I think, I was genuinely concerned for them at the police station, and it was interesting to see Simon fall apart, can't wait for the others to realise they shouldn't have been ignoring him. Feel very sorry for him if it's true he would have been fine if he hadn't seen her again, that was quite the cliffhanger.

WHAT?!!!! But it had all the Malec! How did you not get the feels for Alec defying his parents to go to Magnus and arriving just in time for the big heroic moment to help him save Luke and then the whole cute flirting drinks thing

Girl, I don't know you

I definitely warmed to Alec in this ep and I think Malec is sweet and way more interesting than Clary and Jace but I don't tend to get over-excited by these things. Romance is just not my genre!

I think I was the only one who didn't want that! I loved the bromance but couldn't understand why that needed to be turned into romance

This is exactly how I feel. I really like Magnus but I would be quite happy if he were in it without all this relationship stuff forced upon us. This goes treble for Clary and Jace.

Ahh no I didn't mean turning them into a romance, I meant the epic bromance between Merlin and Arthur. I was very much an Arwen girl if you remember

I only like the Merthur AU fanfiction stuff.

Well they're in the books as actual romances. Merthur was a slash pairing

I would still be happy with a TV show with absolutely NO romance whatsoever!

I've no objection to romance when it's done properly, it's when they create unnecessary angst that it pisses me off.

Hello - I just felt I had to barge in on this thread and say I love this series

I haven't read the books, but I did watch the film and I've mainly forgotten what happened in that.

When I first started watching, it was just another piece of teen fluff that I'd stick on the telly as (extemely) pretty pictures with background noise while I did something else.
However - something happened with the characters - they sort of drew me in - and I found myself actually watching the show and and not doing something else at the same time!

Though the acting is somewhat questionable, they're all endearing in their own way (don't get me started on how adorable Malec are!) - even Clary who I found really miscast and irritating to start with, I started to quite like her by the last episode.

I'm really looking forward to 08/01/2017 (http://next-episode.net/shadowhunter...al-instruments) when it starts again - hope there are a lot more funny, happy Malec moments - not angsty 'we can't be happy because I don't live as long as you' moments. And, as someone said before, I want to see a powerful Magnus, not someone the gang go to when one is hurt or need someone tracking!

I just want to see someone gel down Simon (Alberto)'s eyebrow! Seriously that thing needs some serious TLC with a male grooming expert.

Sorry for letting this thread slip to page 2, I've had my Mum visiting and she apparently doesn't like any of the "rubbish" on Netflix (despite not being able to name any of the shows on there) *rolleyes*
So, I've now seen episode 8, I think Alec is becoming more interesting now he's stopped moping and although Malec is something of a spoiler, I'm still excited to see how it gets there.
Simon's story was great, wasn't expecting him to be actually dead, not surprised he didn't thank Clary for bringing him back. I was thinking about what my preference would be, and I think that if I was dying I would agree to becoming a vampire because I'd be scared of losing everything, but if I was already dead I would rather stay that way (assuming there's either no afterlife or I end up in heaven).

Ahh, things really start to pick up from here on in and it gets a lot more well scripted and the pace improves massively.

Simon is easily my favourite character. He's just great although I'm gonna get bitten but the
Spoiler
was rather fast and I would have preferred a slower burn.

Just like Malec.
