Magnus and Alec switching roles in this episode was quite funny.
Glad a season 2 is coming. |

Best episode yet! I want to watch it again as I only saw it on my tablet so not the best viewing platform but I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
The contrast in colour, tone, characterisation and style between the alternative dimension and our normal one was brilliantly done. Can I just say "hello sexually confident and out there Alec" loved that they gave him Magnus' dialogue for their little meeting. Speaking of meetings, Clary pulling the knife on AU Valentine was hilarious, specially his reaction to it and the comment about cosplay was epic. Loved nerd Sizzy (Simon and Isabelle) and while Simon was his same geeky self, Emeraude really nailed her performance as a completely different character. Speaking of normal Issy though, she was absolutely brilliant in her dealings with both Lydia and her brother over what happened with Meliorn's rescue. I still can't make my mind up about Lydia though, she's been used to good effect, not an outright villain, her comment regarding the rules being all that's stopping Shadowhunters fighting Shadowhunters obviously hit Izzy because of its truth. Alec's still being a dick because of everything that's going on in his head and his life but he stepped a line risking his parabatai bond with Jace and I hope there will be some real repercussions for him taking that step. Knowing what's going on with him gives some leeway but there better be a wake up call sometime soon! Simon and Luke had a neat little side storyarc which was hilarious but also still added much needed development to the idea that the Downworlders need to work together to defeat Valentine. And that classic Bruce Banner line from the 80s TV Show The Incredible Hulk, another brilliant Easter egg chucked in. With just three episodes left though, I think Valentine is the one thing they've got wrong this season. Not that it's Alan van Sprang's fault, they've just never really got across just how much of a real destroy the world threat he is. And Magnus, glorious Magnus, who is stand out the best character either side of the portal. His look at Church had me crying with laughter and it was a tiny throwaway thing but Harry Shum did it so well. Plus I absolutely cried at his internet ad, especially with Luke opening a book store and Hodge becoming a martial arts dan - wonderful nod to the book/AU incarnations. Brilliant, just all ends up brilliant. |

I only watched this as I had nothing else to watch, but this show really surprised me!.
Well, I suppose it does help that there are some seriously sexy women in it, but I also love the storyline too, its got a great mix of myth, sexy women and action with sexy women that is simply fun to watch and unlike many here I have never seen the comic story its based on. Oh, and did I mention the sexy women?...... ![]() Glad this got a second season. |

Honestly, you're ALL so filthy.
I, personally, watch the show for the masterfully woven storylines and the way it immerses you in another world... ... ...

Oh, and did I mention the sexy women?...... ![]() Glad this got a second season. She improved the more she wrote and the latest two series' The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices, are much tighter. For example, in the original series (specially the first three) the only POV you get is Clary's so nothing about Alec's torment over his sexuality and feelings for Jace (until much much later in the series) so in the first book he really comes across as an absolute arse. On the show they've done an amazing job of bringing depth to Alec and visioning this complex and complicated character with his blend of strength and vulnerability. Oh yeah and they're all stunningly gorgeous to look at which definitely helped through the first four episodes while they were setting things up! |

I caved and watched the 1.22 preview video and there sure is a lot of Harry Shum in the episode.
He'll be a full cast member in s2 Just going to watch it now. I have this weird thing where I want to watch it as soon as it's available but I put it off and off because I don't want it to be over once I've watched it.I've done Agents of SHIELD and The Flash first so now it's Shadowhunters time. |

Watched it now and well, so they did go there then. Was really really hoping they wouldn't as it's one of the things which irritated the most out of me in the books - HUGE book spoiler so don't read it if you've not read the books!!!!!
Spoiler
However, I did love how they did the whole story arc leading up to the big reveal (although it was fairly obvious that it was going to be V in disguise) and I liked how the dropped subtle hints which Clary picked up on, the most important one being how she couldn't reconcile this affectionate Michael with the man who had broken Jace's falcon's neck for loving it. Also really like Lydia. I know she's a character they've made up to act as a foil for Malec and to provide a background into the rigidity of The Clave, but I like that they've not just made her a bitch who won't bend from the law is the law. She's believable when she makes her statement on the stand. Also loving Madam Inquisitor, specially given who she is in the books REALLY MASSIVE HUGE SPOILER again from the books
Spoiler
Loved this episode, every bit of it except for Luke and Simon's little chat at the end which, to me, just felt a bit forced. I know Luke loves Simon and is looking out for him but I dunno, Luke would surely have known if Jocelyn had had any other children so the whole thing (again given the book knowledge) just didn't work for me. Simon and Raphael are a killer double act, they make me laugh so much and the blackmailing was brilliantly done, as was Raphael's acknowledgement of Clary's just waltzing into the Hotel du Mort yet again. Blood bank behind the painting, who'd thunk it eh?! And oh my freaking Lord, I've just seen one of the promos for next week and I'm gonna die when the episode finally airs I think next week I might be watching Episode 12 at a minute past midnight soon as it's on Netflix on Wednesday!Although now apparently the video, on Freeform's YouTube, has gone private which is truly annoying (although I've found a different version! (see above). |

![]() As for your speculation, oh yes he is dumb enough but I am really hoping, given that they've made Lydia a sympathetic character mostly, that she will be the one who stops it once she realises. |

![]() All totally down to the actors completely selling it on screen through the first few episodes of set up and background exposition. Jace last night, Dominic Sherwood almost killed me with his portrayal when he discovered who Michael Wayland really was. They've all improved massively from the pilot episode. I find it quite sad that most of the big reviewing sites gave up on it after only a couple of episodes. It really does deserve better media coverage in terms of weekly reviews rather than just casting and "news" related pieces. I'm going to watch all the episodes again before next Wednesday's. That'll be my second watch through
