I've just bought
http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/stor...m=null&tm=null

My problem with it, is that i currently have my ps2 connected to the second scart socket (av2 i think) and when ever i am starting a game or even in the middle of a game it switches channel and goes to terrestrial tv.

The only workarond that i have discovered is to use the Picture in Picutre function and have 2 screens up on my display.... 1 for my ps2 and one for my tv.

In my scart 1 i have my sky box plugged into it. which is RGB. Scart 2 isn't.

Please help, this is annoying the life out of me

The PS2 probably doesn't use pin-8 switching (ie a voltage applied to pin 8 of the SCART connector). If memory serves a PS2 doen't have a SCART does it?

That may be the root cause of the problem. With no "pin-8" signal the TV doesn't know there is anything using the SCART. So you will probably have to select AV2 manually. There is probably a button on the remote labelled AV or INPUT which selects the AV inputs or you use the up-down channel buttons (if any) to select a channel below 0.

what cable are you using for the ps/2? the one it came with which has red, white and yellow phono plugs into a scart adapter or something else you've purchased?

I don't use the lead that came with it as i wanted to have a true scart connection. so i bought a ps2 scart lead.

This is the same scart lead that i used with my old tv (which it was used in conjuction with a scart splitter box) and i had no problems.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated

does it happen when the ps2 is connected to the first scart socket or if sky is connected to the second scart socket?

I'ved tried it connecting through Scart1 and it works fine but this time when i connect my Sky to Scart2, i just get a blank screen.

I have not mentioned this before but i have access to change the type of AV connections for AV1 and AV" which are
AV1:"RGB","CVBS","S-Video"
AV2: "YUV","CVBS","S-Video"

My current settings are AV1=RGB and AV2=YUV

Does this make any difference to the problem

Thanks for the help there cos i think you have just found the problem. When turning on the ps2 the av settings are set to CVBS but for some reason at a random point in the game it switches back to YUV and thus switches back to normal tv.

Although the problem has been identified, does anybody know the cuase of this as although it still swtches it doesn't seem to switch as often

Since it loves to switch to YUV, why not LEAVE it on YUV and set the PS2 to output YUV in the system menu?

Simply Switch it on without a disc in, select System Configuration, scroll down to 'Component Video Out' And change it to "Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr", that should solve it for now.

Also if it works should give you a better picture.

I work for currys, so i sell these tv's.

First things first = IT's NOT TO BE USED FOR GAMING.

Secondly, if you were told so [and i mean if you actually told the sales person that you would be playing games (ps2 xbox) on it ] that it is okay. take it back.

amazing. So Curry wont let you use a TV for gaming.
I better think twice before I plug my video or DVD into a 'Currys' TV.
They might fry me.

I know Currys, Dixons and Comet are right so and sos when u try to take anything back. They are getting inventive with their escuses methinks.
However if as you said it s the PS2s fault then not a lot you can do about it.

Firstly this is not the place for a grumble. I'm giving the information i know from using it every day for the past year.

Neither lcd's or plasmas are designed for gaming use. Its down to RESOLUTION settings. But i thought it might be to technincal an explaination for some.

Anyway rant over - i was just giving some insider knowledge.

Poppycock. There is no problem using a LCD or plasma with a games console. They output exactly the same PAL video signal as any other set top box. Hope that's not too technical an explaination.

to technincal an explaination
If the explanation is as hard to read as your typing, you may be right: one out of four words correct is pretty rough...

But as sanderton rightly says, your "insider knowledge" is utter rubbish. The only possible reason for not using consoles with certain technologies is the risk of burn-in, if you exclusively play the same game for hours a day.

r055c's problem seems related to the video signal type, possibly complicated by different pin-8 signalling on the Sky box and the console.

Troon - yep burn-in is one problem, granted its not the one which started the discussion.

Im only passing on information from the product rep, who paid the store a visit a while back.

My thread seems to have started a heated debate/conversation between some tech guys

Any way the problem that i had with my tv has not happened again since my last post so i'm guessing that this is now fixed and the problem was in fact that the av was on the wrong setting
