Because everything is John's business, of course. He is King of the house....

Had Darren not stood up for himself, John would have continued with his vague "old habits" spin. Thus leading to people inevitably thinking the worst.

Exactly this only happens tor a very small number of people, for the vast majority this really isn't true. Usually the reasons are far more complex.

Darren (like Daniella) has had serious addiction problems in his past. I think they are part of that 'small number'.

Bottom line, if John smokes he is also an addict.

True enough. In fact if anything it's the other way around, have some alcohol and you're gasping for a cigarette. Not sure if I had a cigarette I'd be gasping for alcohol, I've never heard of that scenario ever before

Maybe ... but I don't think Partridge gives a flying **** about that! He was friends with (or pretended to be friends with ... and sadly Darren believed his sincerity) Darren ... and if you were friends with someone - you'd want that person to be around to keep you company for as long as possible. I think he was doing it to try and get rid of someone he perceives to be one of his biggest rivals. I must admit ... I didn't care much for Darren before - but John's treatment of him (and the bullshit he's trying to make people believe) has made me a little bit of a Darren-fan!

Can't believe John targeted Darren for lapsing on his addiction problem? Westbrook is smoking, what about her problems, Angie, smoking! so he nominated her but not to try and save her from her problems, Gemma food issues (kinda kidding there ) They all seem to be smoking addicts + i'm sure John has had a fag or 2

And in that 'celebrity bodies gone wrong' .... wasn't Daniella advised by the dental expert to give up smoking - if she didn't want her dental implants to be on the pillow one morning! She's still smoking like a chimney! Mind you ... its easy to not care about that when someone else has paid for all your treatment (surgery and dental surgery).

Yes - she still needs that crutch - she relapsed her drug habit only last year. Darren is further down the road of full recovery - he managed to quit smoking - he didn't need a crutch. It's just worrying that he is feeling that he needs a 'substance' to cope in there. Not the end of the world but it's not a good sign.

No offence but I think you're looking too deeply into it. He's not using it as a coping mechanism imo. It's two simple things, sheer boredom of being stuck in that house 24/7 and the fact he's surrounded by smokers. Maybe would have been a good idea if he'd taken a vape in with him

Maybe but ........I have quite an addictive personality.

I quit smoking 25 years ago and drinking 4 years ago. I'd feel like s*it if I started again.

I agree

Whether Darren has 1 fag or 100 it's nothing to do with John ,he needs to stop being such a Sanctimonious arse ,and have the courage to give his real reasons ,not try to wrap it up as' I'm just looking out for you mate' crap

Exactly .

Come on guys , it's really not rocket science tbh.

I think Darren said it all in the DR. He managed to kick 2 major addictions to class A drugs and alcohol. He's most definitely going to be able to kick the 'few cigs a day' habit when he gets out.

Why doesn't he give up smoking himself before he tells others to.

I found it creepy to watch, anyone who thinks he was doing it because he cared about Darren's welfare is deluded.

You've done a quarter of a century, that's pretty amazing in anyone's books, I don't think you need worry about relapsing. Well done, as an ex-smoker myself I know how hard it is

From the bits we've heard on the subject of Darren's smoking he spent most of that crazy day almost chain-smoking in the garden. I'm sure he himself said he'd had about 35. Whatever the number, there'd been a marked escalation in a habit that Darren had kicked 18 months ago as he tried to cope with events in the house. As someone with an addictive personality, and as he seems to talk openly about it in there, it seems natural to me that his mate in the house would be worried about him.

I don't think he should have nominated Darren for it though. You don't nom your mates.

Now I'm going to be really embarrassed revealing this.

25 years on and I'm still on the Nicorette gum

That's what I thought ...a smoker telling another smoker to stop smoking ...
