Think she will show up at some point in series 10.
Last time we saw her in Witches Familar she was cooking up a "idea".

Wonder what that was. It can't be good for the Doctor or universe in general.
Missy as teh Doctors oldest and closest friend/enemy knows him better then anyone.

She knows exactly what buttons to press.
Expect she will comment on the loss of Clara and his new companion(s).

Probably say something like "Oh got yourself a new pet then, wonder if they're as smart as the last one!".

Doctor and Missy have unfinished buisness to sort out . Just a question of when it happens.

I hope they run into each other accidentally, then by coincidence are on the same planet where Missy is cooking up a typical scheme of world domination.

La Gomez will return in series 10, I would've thought. Be surprised if she didn't, anyway. Hope so, she's great. Really liked her last scene, surrounded by Daleks, and the "I've got an idea" line. Very Italian Job!

I love her too. For me, Moffat's supporting characters are always more enjoyable than his Doctors or companions.

The one thing I thought was interesting in "The Witch's Familiar" was when Missy told Davros it was nice to meet him at last - the Master never met Davros before? That was a surprise.

But yes, she'll be back. Of course she'll be back.

She reminds me a lot of Ainley's Master with her gloating attitude while always being on the edge of a sudden change of temperament, and she actually feels sinister unlike Simm's Master. She works brilliantly alongside Capaldi too, taking that "frenemy" dynamic to new stakes and I love the more complicated nature behind their relationship with each other.

Roger Delgado will always be king, but I enjoy Gomez immensely more than I did Eric Roberts or John Simm and I think she's a good example of how gender isn't a barrier on certain roles.

The Master had two onscreen encounters with the Daleks before NuWho.

The first was in the 3rd Doctor Era so before Davros appeared on the show and the second was when they executed him in the TVM.

Not sure if there were any books or Audio's that had any additional meetings with the Daleks.

Is there a word for the ability to put down lots of words whilst simultaneously managing to say nothing at all? Asking for a friend.

The 3rd was in curse of the fatal death.

I always assumed the Master had met the Daleks and (at some point) Davros many times off screen.

For me it explained, in part, how he'd been able to burn through 12 regenerations in record time while the Doctor was still in body number 4 - he kept trying to barter deals with the likes of Davros/the Daleks and ended up getting shot. Or something.

At the very least, I thought he might have come face to face with Davros at some point during the Time War. But maybe the Doctor's just special, and maybe he's the only Time Lord to have met Davros in the flesh.

Of course each version of him/her could also have been around for thousands of years off screen... Or he could have had several regenerations before we first met him. Similar to what is suggested for the Doctor in The Brain of Morbius (but is otherwise ignored and discounted).

As for the Doctor, he's burned through a lot of regenerations quickly himself. Notably number 9. We saw the War Doctor begin to regenerate into him at the end of the 50th, and in Rose he checks himself out in the mirror, implying he'd only just regenerated at the start of Rose. And he's gone after (apparently) just a year!

I agree. I like Missy, but so far she's seemed to be a joke incarnation of the character with the plot lines she's had and her part in those stories.

Would be refreshing to see her in a typical master in genius world domination plot type scenario which only the doctor can stop to remind us that the Master/Missy is a character to be wary of and taken seriously as well as charismatic and fun to see. They managed that balance with John Simm so i'd like to see it with Missy also.

I'd be laughing my a$$ off if she nicks the TARDIS again. But yeah Missy needs to be given a master plan that makes an enemy a serious threat, Missy had great potential if they made her really sinister.

Do you really need to ask for a friend when you have so many on this forum already?

I'd suggest "cenologorrhoea" - a (copious) flow of empty words - although this would be the action rather than the ability. Not sure how relevant this query is to the thread in which it appears, but happy to answer anyway.

Obviously she will return again next season. The question I find interesting is whether the showrunner after Moffat will use her. She's been such a successful character that I can't imagine them wanting to regenerate her but I find it hard to imagine her written by someone else. She feels very much like a Moffat character.

Love Michelle Gomez, and the Missy character but have never been happy about her being the Master so, for me, no I hope she doesn't return and the Master comes back as a male again. Really wished they'd made her the Rani, it would've been much tidier Imo.

I personally think it's been the other way around. Simm got to sit there watching Teletubbies, dance along to Scissor Sisters and become everyone as an excuse to put the him in countless outfits. He was an overly camp villain who told us he was the Doctor's friend.

Missy has had two major stories, one where she was the big villain of the piece and the other where she played Doctor to Clara and helped to save the day. She's depicted that complicated friend/enemy relationship far better - her scheme in Series 8 was batsh*t crazy but one of the (admittedly few) things I liked about Death in Heaven was that all the chaos and madness boiled down to her maniacal approach to trying to rekindle the Doctor's friendship.

And whilst others, on this thread included, still seem caught up on the whole gender thing, I don't even notice it myself. Great actress, loving the character and it's the 21st Century - the show actually got with the times and realised gender can be appreciated but isn't the by-all-and-end-all.

Eh, i am not overly sold on Missy's character, she is acting too much of a friend to the Doctor, far beyond there usual Frenemy ways.

But the biggest problem imo is i feel like i am watching an evil River Song, or Kavorian not the Master. But this comes down to Moffat writing many characters the same, but she has great chemistry for Capaldi and is a brilliant actress, so get a good script in her hands.

Again, subjectively I think they've got 'frenemy' right with Missy. To compare to Simm especially. Simm's Master was an out-and-out villain to me, and was only the Doctor's old friend insofar that we were occasionally told and reminded of it. Aside from perhaps his final scenes both on the Valiant, and later in the showdown at the mansion, we were never shown any aspect of that friendship in action. It was almost an afterthought that begged for some emotional resonance.

Gomez's Master channels that friendship though and I feel we're shown that friend and enemy conflict constantly. The friendship shouldn't be a thing of the past where the Master has now 'gone bad' and subsequently a villain. No, it's far more challenging to have an enemy who at the same time still possesses all those qualities that made them a friend as well. Regardless of motive Missy did keep Clara safe during Series 9, just as much as she jeopardised her. You never know which side you'll get with her making her less predictable and more dangerous. Will you get the enemy who commits her atrocities out of her warped idea of friendship like in Series 8, or will you get the friend who helps every step of the way until the last hurdle when she does the most monstrous thing of all, like in Series 9.

Her near to last words to the Doctor were "The friend inside the enemy, the enemy inside the friend". Despite all my doubts and initial disinterest at seeing the Master back last year I've got nothing but praise for how Moffat has dealt with the comeback. Yes he writes many of his female characters in a frustratingly repetitive fashion, but considered on her own I subjectively think Missy is great.
