Cordless Handset will not connect
I have a BT Graphite Cordless landline handset on which I can make outgoing calls without any trouble.
However, when it rings and I pick up it will not connect. I then have to run to the nearest fixed unit to answer the call, after which I can then continue the conversation on the cordless handset if I wish to do so. This appears to be the only fault so the unit must be charging correctly. I have two fixed phones, the cordless, a small ringer, and my computer in the circuit. Could my REN be too high, perhaps? |

This is the wrong forum, this is the mobile one not the landline one.
But anyway. A high REN shouldn't stop the phone from answering a call, it would more likely just stop it from ringing. The REN is mostly irrelevant these days anyway, as it dates from the time when phones had big bells rather than electronic ringers, and when people would have many extensions, each with their own big-belled phone. From what you describe, you're nowhere near close to exceeding the REN limit. Have you tried using a different phone socket (preferably the master socket)? Are you using the cables that came with the phone (some people change the cable from socket to base unit, and that sometimes leads to trouble)? Can you try it with just the cordless phone connected to the line? |

Many thanks, moox, and I am sorry that I have used the wrong forum, but I couldn't seem to find one for landline problems.
Thanks for the info about REN, and I guessed that things are different now because I never read anything about that topic any more. I am using all the cables as supplied, and the unit is plugged into the master socket as it is in the hall - which is where the cordless is located. Perhaps I will try to unplug some of the other phones and see if that helps. Thanks for your suggestions. |
