Hi Mrs G and all, I can only say firstly Sonny is back home - Hurrah !!!! it is brilliant he hasn't got cancer , bit it would have been even better if they had told us what he did have .We go back on Tues to see the vet again and will have to wait
.Sadly when they shaved under his neck , they shaved or cut the goatee from his chin .I know it sounds mad but we loved his little goatee .Whilst on the shaving rant they took blood again today and instead of using the bald patch as big as a golf course they had already made - they shaved his leg !!!!! I will ask about this of course on Tues .I feel disappointed we don't know more ,and I have so many questions .Why take more blood being one ?Anyway , thanks for listening .The good thing is he is here and we will just have to try our best make him eat until we find out why he isn't. Woohoo great news! Can only assume they are taking more blood because they only did limited tests first time round. Yes you need to ask about this. When Poppy was first diagnosed with a liver problem they had done a full blood count and checked for everything going. The blood test indicated a liver problem. This was followed by an ultrasound which is not as invasive as an X ray and which showed changes to the liver. .Then a bile acid test which checks the functioning of the liver.
We elected not to have a biopsy as it was unsafe bearing in mind her other conditions. I have some lnowledge about dealing with liver conditions and innapetence so feel free to pm me if this is the case. Are there any other vets in the area? Just in case you are not happy with the current one. Also sometimes there can be a big difference between vets at the same practice. Have they actually given Sonny any treatment yet? At one stage they agreed to give Poppy a broad spectrum antibiotic because it might help and wouldn't harm in the meantime. Plus a B12 shot might help with appetite. |

My dog is deficient in B12 as her body doesn't make enough so she had a weekly inj of it for 5 wks to bring it up to where it should be and now she has a monthly inj of it. We call it her go go juice as it boosts her energy!

Thanks for the update. Don't they have an idea what it might be?
Have they done stool and urine tests as well as blood? |

She wants another blood test in 2 weeks and more urine tests .When I asked her point blank "did you think it was cancer ? " she said yes .But now it sounds more like she may be thinking leukemia because of his raised red cells .They didn't find anything on the x rays you see , but she definitely implies he's not out of the woods yet .I'm not sure how far weighing the food and water is going to take us - it's up and down .
I don't suppose you - or anyone knows how to get a wee sample from your dog ? he is very wary of me now since I followed him with a plastic container !!! thanks B.x |

My advice is to get something like a large margerine container and cut it shallow. - large so you don't have to be too accurate about catching the urine. Shove under dog at appropriate moment. Then decant into appropriate container
