I've copied all my music (8 GB) from my laptop to my mobile (just copy+paste). Then when I tried Google Play Music, I discovered that it was stuck in 'shuffle' mode, with no way to take it out. A Google search confirmed that this is common, with no solution.

Reading reviews of music players, I settled on Shuttle. This is a very simple player, which is what I wanted. It displays tabs for album, artist and song title, and somehow I'd even copied over my playlists, without intending to.

All my music was put onto my laptop from CD, and I don't anticipate that changing. Hence I've no need for sync, cloud or iTunes.

The problem is that I can't see how to turn Shuttle off. Googling brings up solutions which involve an 'X' on the 'Now Playing' screen, but my version doesn't have that. Swiping it from the'open apps' list doesn't do anything - it keeps playing.

What I've found is that I pause the track, then bring the notification area down, a small set of three lines, of decreasing length, appear on the right. If I touch this, the 'headphone' icon disappears. However, it sometimes comes back after a few seconds, though next time I touch it the icon disappears for good.

Does anyone know how to make it easier to stop, or can recommend a better, though just as simple, player.

The idea is, you pause the song and clear the notification. So you pull down from the top when a song is paused but the app is now minimised and you click the little "X" to close the notification.

Thanks Gigabit. It was the notification I meant to write earlier, about the little 'X', not the 'now playing' screen. The problem is, there's no little 'x' on the notification. There's a set of three lines of decreasing length which appears underneath the notification, and pressing this clears the headphone icon. However, it sometimes comes back a few seconds later.
