Such good service and I know the staff in Waitrose so all good so far. Will also be able to have my free cup of tea and a nice cake as a reward! In fact I might collect my parcel and sit and open it there and then. No! I will not spill my tea over it to see if it is waterproof.

Phew - got my KOBO!!!

Spent all morning trying to learn how to download a book from my library. Loading Adobe Digital Editions, etc. Got to a stage where I really didn't know what I was doing.

Errors were coming up ...... so tried downloading another book and that worked!

So I have got it on my reader to show my Mum tomorrow when she comes to us for lunch etc.

At one stage I had to stop as I didn't know what I was doing BUT postman came and good news my mammogram letter arrived to say 'all clear'. (Not easy when you were diagnosed 2007 the fear never leaves.)

Anyway back to good times now have to learn how to get around my reader - so will leave that to bedtime.

So pleased I was able to download a book on the Kobo.

After going around in circles on Sat - and actually got a book sitting on my KOBO to read.
Tonight found a book for me and -

1. Borrowed and downloaded as an EPUB,
2.Opened Overdrive - it is not in Library to download to Kobo. It states there is an Error Getting LIcence or something. (I think I had that before tried downloading another book and it worked. Tried that again tonight and no luck.
3. I have gone into my computer files and it sits there and tried dropping it into e reader.
4. Oh! Yes - when I am in OverDrive app I do connect the KOBO so it is there but no book in Library only the one I downloaded Sat.

Am I making this more complicated than I need to?
I have printed out help sheets but .......

If you drag and drop a downloaded book into an e-reader in Windows Explorer, does it work? I remember this part was a hassle on EPUB readers. By the way there's lots of free books at http://www.gutenberg.org/ . Those have no DRM protection and you can really just drag and drop them into your reader. Good luck, I hope you'll get it working. This is why I like Kindles, they made this process seamless, all you need is an Internet connection via Wi-Fi or 3G and they'll do the rest.

Previously I have used the Calibre program to manage ebooks for me. It makes it really easy:

Looking at demo it made it much easier looking at list of readers and able to select KOBO. On Adobe it feels confusing understanding what format to get an EPUB? extension.

Two questions -

1. I want to try this so should I delete Adobe BEFORE I download Calibre?
2. If I am still logged onto e.g. Dorset library and I want to download a book from Wiltshire library could being logged into two libraries make any difference?

As the say it is easy once you know how!

I can understand why you like a Kindle but as this posting will show I have weighed up everything and have gone for the KOBO as I do not want to be 'tied' to Amazon and if I am to covert my Mum to using one she will favour the Library link.

So back to job in hand - I have tried that and this is what I can see but obviously I do not understand it!

When I drag and drop this second book the problem must be (is but I don't understand what I am saying) the 'type' has not come across the same as the successful download to KOBO.

Internet Explore - File Type
Book 1 - has an 'EPUB' extension
Book 2 - which has failed has a Adobe Content Server Message.

In fact I have had several goes and all I get is the book name again and again but no success having an EPUB extension.

Maybe as Stig says Calibre could be easier and looking at DEMO it does seem it.

So.... before I try it should I delete Adobe from programs - if I can do it correctly?

What is the actual file extension of book 2? I'd try to open it in Adobe Digital Editions if it can do something with it. Maybe it will then go and download the book referenced in that message file. I wish those who recommended the Kobo would stop by and help you, because I can only guess.

The Calibre is a great program to convert into various book formats, even if the book is DRM encrypted, but you need the book first, which you don't have at the moment.

OK - I have spent all morning feeling like I am getting nowhere. So I phoned both Libraries who tried to be really helpful and sent emails to their tech team. Both libraries sent back a 'Help' page that I didn't have scattered across my desk. (Anything I could find that thought might be ref I printed out.)

Their link proved all set up OK. So I was convinced I had 'clicked' something I should not have done for it to not work.

Soooo.... I did a System Restore Point and downloaded Calibre and I liked the presentation of it. Two books came across but some still would not open.....

Next try was John Lewis -

Then I read out the message I was getting - to John Lewis tech. He said go back to Library I think it looks like you haven't got permission to download.

The dialogue box that came up in the Adobe Digital Library was -

I tried downloading three more and they worked!!!

I have emailed both Libraries and asked if I should not have been blaming myself could it be that these books will not download and I was unlucky enough to pick on books that I had no chance of downloading. The first book that worked was a lucky 'hit'.

The one I can't get to load is 'Consider the Lily' by Elizabeth Buchan it will be interesting if you can open that book. Thank you so much.

I think, judging by the error name (E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_SERV) you wanted to download a book that had no free licenses left. Even if the e-book is just a file on a disk, they still have a limited number of licenses, it's equivalent to a number of copies of paper books a library has. You borrow one copy, they can lend one less. So I think they had no "copies" left.

Are the books that have downloaded successfully all from the same County library?
Is the book that won't download from another County library?

"Consider the Lily" isn't available from my library unfortunately so I can't try downloading it myself.

I'd try the following steps,
1. Log on to the library's website and double check that the book is showing in your list of borrowed books.
2. Double check that the book hasn't already made its way onto the Kobo!
3. Delete the existing file from your computer and download again just in case the file has become corrupted.
4. Try to transfer the book over to the Kobo again using Adobe Digital Editions.

If it still won't transfer over I would think that there are two possible reasons,
either
the software thinks the book has already been transferred to a device,
or
the software's confused because there's more than one library involved.

Have a look at the troubleshooting section on the Overdrive website. It has an example of a similar looking error message and explains how to contact ADE' s helpdesk.

The library have downloaded me an article with 3 steps about 'authorization. So at moment my head is not into receptive mode - so I have thought I am following this route below -

Several books I downloaded, basically on the learning curve, but I just haven't been able to 'get into' them. I have decided to return them ahead of time so they are available to someone else. (so have learnt that step.)

Next I have learnt how to delete them from my KOBO library.

NOW - I am left with a book that I want to read so I can get used to using the KOBO for the purposes I have it for. This will give me some 'time out' from problems.

Sue I will try your steps as plan A to download 'Consider the Lily' again if it is available. Then if I meet the same problems onto plan B

Plan B - if the 3 Steps on their Print Out do not work I thought about taking KOBO and usb cable with me to the library. Maybe they can try it with me logged on to one of their computers. (I did wonder if belonging to 2 libraries could be an issue but they suggested it.)

Oh! Update - on my Mum

She is not receptive at the moment. The book I had ready for her to read was about a Midwife in the 60's and I thought just right. It starts off with 'I was ......' My Mum said 'No! I don't like anything that start with 'I' I would rather it be told like a story. So I said what a 'Talking Book' - 'No!' I don't want one of those.

So I am just thinking of me at the moment and maybe try again with her another day.
