Actually I don' get the praise for John Hindhaugh from so many people. I think he is an awful commentator. Yesterday he was constantly mixing up cars and drivers, made wrong assumptions and was also misinterpreting a lot of situations. And his voice as such can be unbearable from time to time.

I don't watch a ton of motorsport outwith F1, but for me unlike say football on various channels where generally there is a mix of decent commentators (I know unfair comparison - far more football) but across other motorsports - I generally find the commentary terrible. Outwith Croft, Edwards and Toby Moody currently - there isn't anyone I enjoy listening to. Even GP2/3 - Buxton good reporter, not a good commentator. The new boy isn't great either.

In fact if F1 ever came a time when a new commentator came in I didn't like my interest may wain. When Legard was becoming clearly a poor option - I found myself having to gee myself up more to watch races. 2010 plenty of people talk about being a great season, the fact we had four contenders for the title in the last race. I honestly can't recall anything from that season bar the last race. Where as due to track action and engaging commentary I remember more specific races such as 2008 or 2012 in recent times. (However i've just done a research project on relating commentary to pictures so might have just that on the brain and no one shares that opinion! )

You'd find the Eurosport Player WEC video stream appealing - as there isn't any comms. I have to fire up Radio LeMans audio on VLC and sync the 2 by pausing the video.

I noticed after listening to Martin Haven commentating on Le Mans 24h (Eurosport) last year, that his voice stays with you after the race has ended! .

It's not an easy task calling a motor race, however Mark Cole was 'all at sea', no, make that 'lost at sea - no survivors', commentating on the Trophee Andros Ice Racing coverage for MotorsTV last winter. I think he's much better on sportscar commentary.

I personally find Jack/Dario on FE possibly the best current pairing in any series. I think Alex Jacques on GP2 is ok, but outside of F1 I usually find the comms a disappointment. I think it's a harder skill and more important to the quality of the coverage than most other sports.

The only problem I have with the WEC commentary is that they seem to miss a lot of stuff because both commentators seem to like looking away at timing screens at the same time.

Take yesterdays race for example. Somebody was seen on screen with a flat tyre & both commentators looked away to figure out who was in the car & what place he was in & while they were doing that we got a replay showing that the puncture was caused by somebody running into the back of him & neither of them picked up on it & continued to speculate it was probably caused by debris & that the bodywork been changed in the pits was because of damage from the puncture when it was primarily because of when he was hit from behind & the rear guard was pushed into the tyre.

Something that kind of irritates me with the WEC coverage in general is how the director seems to jump around a lot & during close fights for position seems to constantly cut to reaction shots in the garage. If you want to get a reaction after an overtake or something then fine but to be constantly switching back & forth during the close fight for the position is dumb.

I also hate how the overall position graphic that comes up at the end of every hour only shows the gap to the overall leader. Only showing that the guys in LMP2 & the GT classes are a dozen laps off the overall leader doesn't help show where the closest fights for position are, I would like to see them add a 2nd gap column showing the gap to the car ahead.

SRO's Blancpain GT graphics package, which was made for the now defunct GT1 World Championship should have been re-worked. If it wasn't for the commentators telling me who was driving which car, I'd just know what the position, make and model it is. Hopeless. The over-use of condensed text makes for appalling legibility too.

I'd like to see this too. Please implement FIA WEC.

Their GT championships as a whole tend to have an over-emphasis on just the manufacturer IMO, rather than the driver & team.

ELMS is free to view live, online:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2m...2016-live_auto
Race timetable: http://europeanlemansseries.com/asse...416_723996.pdf

ELMS also have a youtube channel, but I don't think they show the live stream there yet:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU8...mlN1Vwg/videos

FIA F3 is at the Pau street circuit this weekend - free to view live, online: http://www.fiaf3europe.com/

MotorsTV are showing the Blancpain Endurance GT race from Silverstone (also free to view on the SRO GT1 world Youtube channel) and most of the Monaco Historic GP races live this weekend.

From Autosport:
Heineken is set to enter Formula 1 as a major sponsor in a five-year deal worth $150m, Autosport understands.

The drinks giant will have a significant trackside presence from this year's Canadian Grand Prix and will not be replacing any existing trackside sponsors such as Rolex or Pirelli.

Unusually for a 'trackside' deal, the Heineken arrangement is said to include provision for a degree of partnership with an F1 team.

Several teams have been issued with Requests For Proposals from Heineken, whereby the team making the best pitch to the brewer would receive its revenues.

It is likely therefore that the successful team will carry some kind of Heineken branding.

A source close to the deal said: "This is great news for Formula 1. It's a high-profile brand committing cash and credibility and that can only be good for the sport."

If they want to put the branding on a team they should just give it to Sauber as they seem to desperately need help with reports that the payments to staff have been delayed for the 2nd or 3rd month running.

That would definitely be the best decision, although, Max Verstappen...Dutch....Heineken. I think it all adds up.

Would Red Bull want to be 'officially' associated with alcohol though? I wouldn't be surprised if Mclaren gets it, now that they've lost Johnnie Walker to Force India. But they're awarding the sponsorship to a team, not an individual driver.

It wouldn't be McLaren as they still have Johnnie Walker as a sponsor plus their tie up with Chandon as well.

I doubt it would be Red Bull and Ferrari red wouldn't work with Heineken Green.

As they are now replacing any existing track side sponsors I can imagine we will get more CGI sponsors for them instead, which look terrible on TV

Didn't they lose Johnnie Walker to Force India from this year onwards though?
Ferrari have had Tic-Tacs as a sponsor before, and the Heineken Logo has a red star on it.

And Heineken currently sponsor the Red Bull US Soccer team...

Do Molson still have a trackside presence at Montreal?

I would imagine they want to break into new markets, Haas?

I don't think so. They're certainly not a title sponsor anymore, that's for sure.
