Really the first Formula E with no bad direction. I think they caught every major moment live. Not many stupid cutaways to the pit lane either. Just need to get rid of the pointless music and annoying FanBoost graphic noise now. Or, you know, they could just scrap the FanBoost all together...

Yeah, agreed, I did like the chat with Bird out in the lead during the SC, that was cool.
I might have missed it but I genuinely don't remember the rule of "you need to fanboost when you have more than 50% energy" and if that is the rule I don't truly get the logic of it. I'm not a fan of fanboost either but having said that I find it considerably easier to ignore than DRS, so in that sense I think it's actually out in front of F1... The only slightly dodgy direction I remembered was the incessant flicking between camera angles in the seconds between the dummy grid and the cars lining up in the grid proper. I felt like they were catering for their ADHD fans...settle it down! Thankfully they got that out of their system before the lights went out. |

Aye, that was a good race. Liked that corner shot with the cars sliding
really made the most of showing the speed of the cars.Agree with you both, FanBoost just needs to go - it's totally unfair in sporting terms and actually I'm surprised the FIA allows it in one if its official championships, but fortunately its effect is minimal enough that it doesn't really seem to affect the overall result that often. First I'd heard of any 50% rule too. |

The only rules I could see about fanboost from the rules and regs on the app say this; Quote:
FanBoost
Fans can give their favourite driver an extra speed boost by voting for them both prior to and during the opening six minutes of the race. Voting opens 12 days prior to the race with the three winning drivers receiving an additional 100kJ of energy in their second car only to be used in a power window of 180kW and 200kW. When deploying FanBoost it can only be used once, a series of short bursts will not be possible. |

Yes thinking about it I'm sure I've seen it saved up for a last lap lunge before. I also can't think of any particular reason why they'd limit it to >50% battery - I mean if you use it on the last lap and run out of power, well then that's your own fault isn't it? Still we can solve all the confusion by eliminating it entirely

A little gripe I have with Formula E is that its a pain to try & sync up all the OnBoards they stream on their website with the TV feed.
I had all 4 playing & none of them were in sync with each other & nothing I tried managed to fix that. I'd like to see Formula E introduce an extra video option on the website with the 4 available feeds playing in a quad-screen (Like you can on the Sky ipad app) all synced up to make it easy to get them all synced to the TV broadcast. BTW the Bathurst 12hrs is been streamed live on the NismoTV Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/nismotv2013 The qualifying stream has been archived on their so hopefully the race will be as well for those who miss it live. Its also on the Bathurst 12hr livestream channel but its not HD like on Youtube: http://livestream.com/accounts/16575201 |

It is showing a lot of illegal premiership football streams, not sure I want to risk it. Thanks for the youtube link though, worked nicely. Do wish more of these race series would use youtube rather than these streams embedded in their websites. Also, a big thanks for that Le Mans 1999 review vid, just superb, great viewing last night. |

About the official Bathurst international stream - it didn't work well for me in my main browser Firefox and used Flash to deliver the video. Kept changing quality or stopping entirely.
I opened it in Edge instead (where I've disabled flash entirely - not even "click to play" is enabled) and it worked much better. Might have something to do with Firefox not using hardware acceleration on my ancient laptop, whereas Edge does. |

I'll say it again..Jack and Dario are the BEST commentary team in racing.
My favorite from yesterday.. Dario: Who's your money on? Jack: NO !!! Loved that. Jp |

Last year rated poorly, even with extensive promotion. This year figures have collapsed. The novelty value has clearly worn off, and other than ITV, none of the mainstream media even mentions it. Unless Formula E gets into the back pages of national newspapers, it's not going to survive for long. Yesterday we had a British winner, and not a mention of it in the papers this morning. |

How do the figures compare to something like BTCC?

Still very early days for Formula E, I suspect it's a bit ahead of its time and ahead of the technology (the cars are too slow), but if they can get more well known brands involved like Jaguar you probably have a sustainable series there. |

It gets about 15-20% of the audience of BTCC.
I suppose Saturday races and relatively long gaps in the calendar don't help with its discoverability even amongst motor racing fans - I wonder if there's quite a large potential audience who would watch, but literally forget it's on. Pretty sure my Sky series link never picks it up either, again that won't help. Or maybe it's highlighting just what a great package they have with BTCC. |

Not read a national newspaper for decades myself, but its really not the place I think a motorsport fan would turn to for motorsport coverage.
All the motorsport fans I know watch formula e, Generally, they see it like myself as in its infancy, quite unique but has some interesting racing. But the presentation, commentary style and the whole app, music, fan boost is trying to bring something different. Not all working as we have discussed here. Not sure any motorsport apart from F1 ever gets any decent coverage in the general press, be it tv, papers or the web and especially when there is a uk driver. you only have to look at the recent Aussie tennis major to compare that, with our new number one woman, which most of us had never heard of before. The last article I saw on the beeb site in their motorsport section was about Jaguar and formula e back in December. I would expect them to support it more from a UK point of view. I would expect something like Tesla to be sponsoring it or whoever does their batteries, are they known? Hardly Duracell is it. That would then get more newsworthy points. I think its much like Le Mans, which gets some small coverage for its historic nature and has featured many UK iconic brands, but I expect very few realise or how often do you see mentions in the general press about the hybrid technology there. |

Sad to say, but outside of F1 pretty much the only time motorsport gets coverage in the mainstream news and press is if someone British is injured or killed.
e.g. "...and that's all the sport" being a particular favourite sign off in the sports segments on the news channels, when they've actually only covered Football, Rugby and a bit of Athletics. |

I had a few tablets with the streams via the app and ignored the itv coverage, they synched nicely. Chromecasted the main feed.

Some series, like Superbikes and speedway and rally cross are only getting 2 cm of coverage, but that's 2cm more than Formula E is getting. You need to compare FE with A1GP. In terms of exposure, it's nowhere near. |

A1GP had extensive cross promotion on Sky, I never missed a race. FE, I never know it's on, was there a race today? Not seen one live this season, just don't know they are on!
