You could see from the onboards that Rosberg was on the same line before Hamilton started the maneuver, that's about the only thing that Ant missed.

Bizarre that when referencing the rule about being alongside, Damon still managed to blame Nico for moving across while watching a replay where he said Lewis wasn't overlapping until he was almost on the grass.

Thought Crofty was best at the actual point of impact, but just my opinion.

It's a great result for Nico regardless of who was to blame. He would have gone into the race expecting to lose points on Hamiton but he managed to break even and can move on. It's a disaster for Hamilton.

Its a bit of a pitty that they don't seem to have the 3D analysis tools with all the telemetry data that they had in Melbourne. Would have been useful to see the speed difference between the 2 as Nico's car began harvesting energy.

They were all pretty good, Crofty's call of the entire start from lights out to SC was the best of the 3, for me. Ben and DC definitely summed up the chaos of the start. Jack Nicholls had probably a more difficult job on radio but still good.

No, nothing on the Mercedes front. These were the (local) times of the messages played out on the F1 App - there might be more exclusive clips on the Pitlane channel, but I haven't checked that:

I would tend to agree with the racing incident analogy, Rosberg crowded Hamilton off the road. and that ultimately caused the crash.
If it wasn't for the speed differential at that time, Hamilton wouldn't have gone for the gap.
However in many other circumstances crowding off the road, does not result in a crash, particularly if there is astroturf off the racing line or if the other driver backs off, . As a result Rosberg should not be penalised,

Channel 4 decided to chat to Prost before the safety car came in. However he went on for ages, so talked over the restart, and because he was in a media area which was using Sky commentary, you could hear Croft commentating on the restart whilst Ben couldn't get a word in whilst Prost wouldn't stop talking.

That's pretty unfortunate (and a bit funny to end up broadcasting their rival's commentary indirectly!), must have been rather annoying for anyone watching C4 live.

Reminds me of ITV in Oz all those years ago when they were listening to someone in the pits and prevented Allen and Brundle commentating the SC restart. They had to re-record that for the daytime replay.

On another note, I reckon after today we now have a good idea what might get the CGI treatment for Sky's title sequence for 2017...

It sounds like Hamilton is accepting the blame in his interviews afterwards. That he had to go for it, it didn't work out, he's sorry but that's racing.

It seems to me he is upset there was a crash, and the fact so many Mercedes employees in that sense were let down by the incident.

I didn't sound to me he was accepting full blame, and neither did Rosberg in his interview either to be fair.

Hamilton was more pissed off he (With Rosberg) let the team down.
But i have to say Rosberg should have afforded him a cars width and not forced him off the track.
Sky again over did everything and over analysed the race to death and pre-race over did it with VT's and Sky pad crap.

What did the Sky analysis tell us that was not obvious from the C4 coverage?

Well for one, they had Rosberg on-board so Davidson was able to pick out that Rosberg was fiddling his wheel.

Congratulations to Max Verstappen who won his first F1 race today. For young man of 18 years old; it has to be one of the greatest achievements to have ever witnessed. He deserved it as he done some fantastic driving to earn his win today. I hope enjoys the win with his family and I hope many more wins happen for him in the future.

It's a shame that his teammate Riccardo had lost his race due to his tyre bursting in the last few minutes of the race. He was very humble about Verstappen's victory at the end as it's sign of his good sportsmanship.

Amidst all that stuff going on in the background; Hamilton is having a hugely disappointing season so far. The crash with Rosberg today really is a huge setback for his individuals standings in the championship. His position of getting a 4th World Championship is really starting to ebb away slowly because of some of the mishaps that have happened with his car from Mercedes this year. It's not a good position for him personally because being a three time F1 World Champion is a very difficult thing for one person to hang onto for a good few years.

Merecdes having the position of being top of the constructor's championship is still not bad. But will that position stay for long? If Mercedes have to rely on Rosberg to win every race; well they have no choice really as Rosberg could win the world title this year if luck comes his way. Only time will tell. If Mercedes do not sort out the issues with Hamilton's car. Well their postition in the Constructor's Championship for this year could be in trouble if Rosberg does not come up the goods of winning every other race. Any points they do get will be important to give them an idea on how they do for the rest of the season. It is a bit of stumbling block for Mercedes as they sort out their reliability issues with their cars. Mercedes are meant to have a philosophy of efficiency in their cars; not total failure. The World Championship title however still holds more prestige in this sport because it has the status of being more worthwhile for the driver's reputation. It is still Hamilton's to lose because his hard time in the standings so far.

Still it give other drivers a good chance to bridge the gap in attempting to eventually overtake Mercedes in the standings.

And that makes it for a real exciting season doesn't it. You bet
