Do you think Battersea Park is the city centre?

Seems Monza are planning to remove the 1st chicane for next year.

However you remember that new chicane they were planning to build for Motorcycles on the inside of Curva Grande.... Looks like the cars will use it as well

Well it doesn't seem to matter does it, Formula E is moving on to the actual city centre.

I don't have a problem with this. Going into Curva Grande will be much faster.

Interesting to see if they will actually remove the current T1 chicane & current Curve Grande, given that they've said it won't be used for either bikes OR cars.

But they won't be going into Curva Grande, They will turn off onto the new section with the new chicane before they get anywhere near Curva Grande.

http://www.adictosalagasolina.es/wp-...n-de-Monza.jpg

They will be replacing an iconic bit of circuit with a nothing kink, a chicane that looks no better than the one there removing & no doubt a sea of tarmac runoff.

Not to mention that the run to the 2nd chicane will likely then be too short to be a decent overtaking possibility, Right now you get overtaking into the 2nd chicane because they are able to get a great slipstream through the fairly long run to it through Curva Grande, With the new proposed layout you will lose that.

Interesting to see Gary Anderson is a guest on Sky's F1 Report tonight. For those who miss him from the BBC but don't have Sky the show will be available on http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/f1 afterwards. Sky could have come up with a more flattering description of him mind:

Quote:
“Joining Natalie on the F1 Report is former McLaren mechanic and Sky F1 pundit Marc Priestley and former car mechanic Gary Anderson”

Let's hope we can hear him over the office noise, looks a bit busy in the background...

As a general note, for non-Sky Sports subscribers missing detailed post-race analysis (as Channel 4 don't have a "F1 Forum") I do find the combination of Ted's Notebook with the F1 Report (On that link above for free) are good substitutes.

*Going into the first corner after the start/finish straight will be much faster.

The proposed new chicane will be different to Ascari because there's less of a sharp turn.

Effectively it will be the same (overtaking opportunities too) as the Della Roggia chicane, with a longer run up from the start/finish straight and the 1st half of Curva Grande.

So while we'll lose overtaking (a little) at Della Roggia, we'll gain at this new chicane.

So tight is the Monaco schedule that the safety car tests happen with the track still open to public: https://twitter.com/RenaultSportF1/s...47194845777920

I wish FOM would stream those live tbh...

Formula E is gaining a lot of traction in the non-traditional motorsport fan demographic, it's hopefully going to continue on that tangent while pushing the new technologies further so the speeds etc increase.

Plus the racing is consistently excellent so you don't know what you're missing.”

Formula E is rubbish.
Car's electric power-packs running out meaning they grind to a halt.
They sound shit.
Considering the class of driver in the series, they's piss slow.
Stupid gimmicks like fan-boost.

*WARNING: Rant mode on.*'If there is one thing I don't like about F1 having a race in Monaco (besides the girls, the big yachts, the glamour, the usually glorious weather, the PR companies lumping it with Cannes & did I mention all the bikini-clad girls??!) it's having to remember First & Second Practice comes on a day early. I know it only happens once a year and it's traditional and it's another reason why having the GP in the Principality is an anomaly, blah, blah, blah. I'm just having an off week, hopefully the Circus can throw up some diversions this weekend. *Rant mode off.*

Haven't seen a car 'grind to a halt' in any race so far...

Great to see TMC sticking to their usual idea of not bothering to show why yellow flags/VSC is out. Nobody could figure out what happened at T1 at the end of FP1 for a good few minutes. Absolutely pathetic.

Its not mentioned anywhere but if you press 7 on your sky remote while in the red button app you get a quad-screen layout featuring the SSF1, Timing & 2 extra OnBoard feeds:

It only has the SSF1 audio available....... BTW I notice that Sky have brought back the option of using SSF1 audio on the pits channel.

If they did this in HD with the pit-lane channel instead of SSF1 it would be more useful - at least you could read the timing screen!!

Thanks for that. A bit of a crazy circuit.

Given the busy nature of the weekend with French Open tennis, Giro D'Italia cycling and WSBK/WRX all jostling for airtime, it appears (unless I've missed it in the EPG somehow) that Eurosport's live sport casualty is this weekend's round of the WTCC.

Meh, I hear you say. But sadly it's the Nordschliefe round that appears to be getting the short shrift with a shortish looking highlights slot beyond midnight on Saturday night. Bit of a shame because it's a real change from the norm and it shows a bit of ambition and gumption for a series that's often somewhat stale and unimaginative in its efforts.

It's a EUROSPORT managed racing series! I'm embarrassed for them.

Anything special about how it will be covered on TV?

Great, The only round of the series I actually plan to watch

Not really a big fan of touring cars nowadays (Used to love them through the early/mid 90s) as I don't like the cars & can't stand the usual raceday format (Hate that the races are so damn short), But I love the Nordschliefe so was planning to enjoy watching this weekend..... Still the 24 hours I guess which is been streamed online (I think)

It won't be covered by the usual Eurosport team, but by WIGE, who are the host broadcaster for the main race.

I thought the WTCC races were live on Quest though?

Big news out here in America..
For the first time IMS has lifted the local LIVE broadcast blackout after every possible ticket, parking and camping spot has been sold.

People power.
It works here.

I thought they might get bumped there so I checked the Sky EPG, but apparently not. Quest has two big live slots for WSBK on Saturday and then live WSBK and FIA WRX slots on Sunday.

Not sure what all the WSBK slots are for unless it includes World Supersport etc., or maybe the EPG is wrong and they've mixed up WSBK with WTCC somewhere!

I have a life long friend who lived and still does live next door to Stamford bridge. One of the reasons as a South Coast lad I become a Chelsea FC supporter, we used to go to every home match from 69 onwards for at least three decades, until family/work and sky sports on tv got in the way.
Still, his Dad worked next door to that Crystal Palace Circuit.
He always got tickets for us to go to motor races at Crystal Palace (always a good excuse as a pre teenager for me to go an a train ride to London to meet up with them), remember quite a few races sitting on some high grass banks. So expect i saw that race live.
That was about 69 to 1972/3, not sure exactly when, as remember they stopped racing there then. But we then started going round the country to watch more.
Do think its a shame I did not keep some of the tickets and programmes, but as a kid you just never did.

As for Formula e I'm glad they will ditch Battersea, it looked awful on TV and did not look that good for any spectators. I'd love to see it at Brands Hatch, have always loved that track, probably one of the best for memories and design for me over the years in the UK. Not really sure that the UK is up for the City type tracks. It just becomes a logistical nightmare here.
