There are other official World championships of course (WTCC, WSBK, WRX) but they're of a level below the above (i.e. GT cars are basically souped up touring cars if you ask me).”

I'm of the opinion only NASCAR in North America is a genuine rival, maybe MotoGP to an extent. I see F1's rivals more as Premier League Football, the Olympic Games etc. The media interest in F1 is on a completely different level to WEC, WRC etc.

Not completely true, there are a couple of short blocks where it's on ES2 due to them showing Le Mans 24 Minutes once or twice. Will annoyingly be full of adverts though (must admit I'd never usually do Eurosport Player but this year I'm tempted to because last year had too many adverts for my liking, just need to sync that up with the RLM commentary though).

I usually put RLM on overnight in the bedroom while dozing. Eyes not open so no picture needed.

What i've done in the past, is use Eurosport's raw commentary-free feed they stick on Eurosport Player, along with Radio Le Mans' YouTube 'studio-vision' feed in a second monitor. Last year they had the clock from the timing screen as a PIP window on the feed, which made synchronisation with Eurosport's pictures a breeze. I hope RLM do the same this year.

Of course now that I have BT Sport, i'll be able to have Eurosport's (abeit bastardised) coverage of the race on the Main Eurosport 1 channel on the TV proper this time, so I may do that.

I'm with HH on this. The only time that WEC is a true rival in terms of interest and media coverage is Le Mans, and F1 should embrace it as they managed to do last year as it generated more coverage due to Hulkenberg winning.

Thanks for that.
Set it up as three virtual desktops, with each page now a desktop background, so can flick between them as will have timing, RLM and Le Mans live video across them.
See the wec app is charging for Le Mans, will just use that then for the the free live timing, so no need for any pay option.
Any other good live video sources of Le mans out there for onboards or different views, apart from Eurosport which I will be watching via sky go and my slingbox?

Porsche web stream

Audi, NISMO Nissan on Youtube (LMP2 engine supplier) and some other teams supply their onboard videos online.

FOM fan posted a list of cars with on board cameras earlier, so I'd look at that list.

Eurosport Player had multiple onboard camera streams last year.

Oh yes remember that, it worked well.

From what I can see, the WEC app will NOT be streaming the 4hr Free practice session from Le Mans this year, only qualifying onwards. This is a change from the previous couple of years where before they did stream practice from Le Mans (with commentary). It will however be shown live on Eurosport & Eurosport Player.

Apparently Justin Bieber *was* scheduled to do the podium interviews at Monaco, but that was vetoed by the Monegasque Royal Family. Which is a slap in the face to the sponsors who've paid for him to be there at the past few Monaco GPs xD

If true that's brilliant (and I'm grateful to them!) as that would've been the absolute worst thing. I'd rather have a goat interviewing the drivers than him (and I'm not joking either!)

Oh heck yes I forgot about them having the timer as PIP, that was THE best thing as it made it so much easier to sync them together. If they do the same this year, I need to decide whether to go for Eurosport Player just to avoid the horrific number of ad breaks and stick the laptop into the TV so I can watch Eurosport Player on the TV with RLM (ideally studio-vision feed to help sync) in the background of that (as I hate the number of ad breaks, but I also don't want to watch the race on whatever size screen my laptop is if I can watch it on a 50" screen instead.

Thanks for the reminder about the studio-vision though with the timer on screen, might ask if they're doing the same again this year.

Just had it confirmed from them that they will be.

OK, here's the stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpbDCr6rEw4 although they've now told me it won't be up for Practice now.

Excellent stuff, thanks for that. Can live with it not being on for practice, and to a lesser extent qualifying, but for the race it is most definitely very very helpful.

Thanks for the RLM youtube link. Eurosport commentary is as bad as ever, so RLM is such a relief.
The Eurosport ad breaks as ever for their Le Mans coverage are just excessive. Odd as never find that so much of a problem when watching the tennis on Eurosport.
The Eurosport commentary team called Eurosport 'the home of motorsport'.

Yeah the've belatedly turned the RLM YouTube stream on, however its missing the session clock, so I can't sync it up like last year

The view from the Eurosport commentary booth earlier:

Quote:
“We are live on @Eurosport with @MartinHaven @markcolecoms @JeremyShawRacer. @carltonkirby & @hancock_sam & me soon”

I found the ES cast of thousands OK so far...

Carlton does a lot of pushbike commentary - he's a clearly a 'Marmite' commentator if this thread is anything to go by: Bikeradar - 'How can Kirby be stopped...'

It's a play on the Eurosport 'The home of cycling/bikes' slogan.

'It's the home of whatever sports rights we can get hold of and not then dump on Quest', would be more accurate for the UK.

Have to say i agree. That imbecile doing interviews is a joke to the sport as is all of these bloody celeb podium interviews!
Its making it a shambles every race almost now, apart from when we get a proper interview from someone like Brundle or DC. Even Kai from RTL does a more serious interview and he is a knob!

Eurosport: The 2 hour 2nd Qualification session at Le Mans is at 6.00 PM tonight. It's not on Eurosport TV because of the tennis and athletics, but should be on the Eurosport player.

I have to say the coverage last night of Quali 1 wasn't too bad on Eurosport, but their adverts seem to be getting longer and longer and closer together.

I like the safety changes they have made this year at the Porsche curves. Already stopped a few big crashes.
