is there a list that shows who has done the podium interviews over the years?

we have had Kai Able doing podium but what about Tanya or Ted they would be good to have on the Posium to do their stuff.

I believe Ted did Canada one year (last year I think?).

They're getting to be a bit FOM-like, stuck in their ways tbh...

Heck, I *want* them to have a better quality of service! And the studio-vision is excellent, but with tweaks it could be even better! And tbh, a session clock would still be a benefit to a listener who's just hearing the audio stream anyway. (Obviously i'm not saying get rid of studiovision on YouTube in general, its just i've noticed problems when syncing and have a theory of how to get round that - if users are more interested in syncing than actually seeing them in the box)”

You're suggesting that they have a more reliable internet connection than the satellite internet they use for studio vision, but do you have any evidence that this connection actually exists?

Given the cost of satellite internet, I'd suggest that the reason they are using it for studio vision is that it is their only internet.

To be fair to Baku (contrary to my previous post) it did provide a very good GP2 race with some crazy slipstreaming (and just some general crazy driving). Top tip though, is DRS really required on a track like this, come on guys...

Not sure it was much of a loss when Stoffel "Yeah exactly" Vandoorne had to leave the commentary booth around lap 9 for a Mclaren briefing, he seems like a nice guy but not sure about any potential future as a co-commentator after (hopefully) a very successful career...

By the way, probably was asked when it was announced years ago but, why is this GP in Baku being called the "European GP"? Rather than the Azerbaijan GP? Azerbaijan isn't really in Europe nor is there another track in Azerbaijan! (like previous uses for European GP).

Good morning, just had 3 and a half hours sleep. Only 1 new retirement, not long until happy hour. I think I've cracked this endurance lark.

12 hours to go...

Ah that's why it was then, must've missed Alex mentioning that from the commentary. Thought it was pretty strange he disappeared then showed up in the crowd at the podium ceremony!

Think he's been spending too much time with Ron

Just a point on DRS - at most tracks the second detection zone is normally so drivers can "come back" if they've been overtaken with a second detection zone, but here it's not like that - you'll get DRS in between turns 2 and 3 if you got it on the main straight, regardless if you got past the guy or not. Don't know why it's like this.

Yes but it was explained in The F1 show the following week that Ted was a last minute stand in as the celebrity (Michael Douglas I believe however he came back this year and did pretty well IMO) pulled out. The commentary boxes are too far away to get DC or Brundle down in time so FOM approach Ted, ask if the jacket fits and send him up.

Today, as it's Eddie's first day back I expect he'll be on the podium duties today.

They tweeted me that they use a different connection for the website's audio player, as its more reliable and the audio feed is the priority.

Shea Adam tweeted me to say that the feed on their website's audio player is delivered to the website: "Not via Internet, as that platform tends to fall over." According to Eve Hewitt: "We send audio back to London via ISDN. It's encoded there and then distributed by our streaming partner

Whatever they use, the youtube clock streams x3 have all been very reliable and have listened to them all yesterday, through the night and this morning. No glitches that I saw/heard and our syncing with the eurosport coverage on sky has worked perfectly.
Must admit, as ever from them for their sports, the eurosport hd pq is of a very high quality.
The 24 minutes breaks have also not been too bad with Tom Kristensen.

ISDN is ideal for audio. It's old hat, but works well for them, and the Beeb, etc.

These GP2 boys really not liking the SC restarts are they! Chaos...

edit - "all safety car restarts will be investigated after the race" says race control

edit2 - what a race!

When the line is connected, of course...!

(I was involved with two BBC Radio OBs - not in the field of sport - that didn't make it to air because the ISDN lines were not configured properly)

Nice buildup piece on Sky for a change - analysing driver's eye motions with Ted, Nico Hulkenberg and proper helmetcam.

The race is over now.
A SKY F1 presenter is left totally dejected.

Sorry for interrupting YOUR live tweeting of whatever, by trying to read people's views on the F1 race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With regard the race, personally I found it slightly boring. I'm not one of these who wants lots of crashes in races, and while I appreciate more drivers reaching the end is a good thing, it makes the viewing fairly bland.

There were a few good overtaking moves, but how may times did the engineer have to tell Lewis that he can't discuss whatever is wrong?

Also, why is Sergio Perez being called "Check"?
