Either way fans should be getting that rather than the current outdated timing screen.”

Thats not a reworked Data channel, Its something different which FOM are not sending out to broadcasters as part of the additional content pack.

You say it's different, but that's only in how it looks. The data is still the same by & large, the current data cahnnel shows the same broken-down sector information as this new one. I suspect FOM are probably trialing this internally before replaceing the current data channel with this one.

Wondering why Raikkonen managed to catch up to Vettel at the end of the race? It wasn't mentioned at all by Sky, but 'super strategist' Vettel thought he'd finished the race a lap before the end and slowed right down!

It wasn't mentioned by anyone, was it?! Certainly the first I've heard of it. Amazing really that FOM completely overlooked this.

I noticed that he lost a lot of time in the final lap on the live timing, Autosport said he lost the time because he clattered the kerb at turn 1.

I noticed him go wide and going slower on the on-board channel but I wasn't sure why - but I was shouting at the commentators a bit!!

Fans may be about to get full access to all team radio traffic...... For a price.

Makes sense as to why the radio traffic on the WF was so few and far between! He wants to flog it to fans!!!!

I wonder how many of these super-secret private messages will no longer actually be communicated by the teams now they know they won't be super-secret and private. So how much of the "normal" team radio would they need to take in order to make it worth paying for?

Not that folk aren't paying enough, of course, as the sport continues to increase its reliance on pay-TV channels...Maybe they could stick two-thirds of the onboards on there and nobble the world feed and we could pretend it was 15 or so years ago.

If they were going to do this, I assume they'd actually want a few races where they did broadcast everything for free, so you could see what you'd be paying for. I mean, Team Radio in Germany was nice, but there wasn't anything there that made me go "I would have paid to know that!!!".

None of the radio messages are private. All the teams employ people just to listen to other teams' radio traffic.

There's a rumour that ITV are dropping FE coverage for next season - not sure who else is going to pick it up

Since Discovery bought a 33% stake in the championship about 15 months ago, my money would be on Eurosport or Quest.

...although I'm not sure the audiences are high enough for Eurosport, so maybe just Quest.

The app was great to view it all the last season, so don't care if its not on itv or any linear channel.
Hope the commentary team stay put though.

She was on their last night at 10pm as well. I guess they are short presenters at the moment with holidays etc

Also just in the spirit of F1, they only have to shut down for 2 weeks out of the 3 so maybe Rachel will shut down next week

Yes, must be tough travelling the world with F1, especially the last few seasons with a lot more races, I'm sure the break would be welcome. She like Ted, Crofty and Simon attend them all.
Martin missed one this year, but was still in race mode.

Hi lettice, could you possibly answer a few questions for me?

Does the app allow you to watch the races live? What is the quality?
I watched one of the races via youtube last year and it was quite good.

Yes, along with practice and qualy sessions and onboards during the sessions.
The quality was excellent, as good as any streaming app and it works with chromecast too.
Did not have any glitches with streaming it and looked superb when thrown with chromecast to an HD. Even better on an iPad Pro in the garden
Have used both the iOS and android versions and both work well.
They do have a lot of good extra video content on there too, like their 360 videos.
Do think its a well designed app compared to some and easy to switch between streams and content.
Nice thing is its all free.

There was a 'private' radio channel back to the pits that FOM had no access to as it was encrypted!

From what i've read, the extra team radio stuff looks like it will be part of the existing premium app subscription - so if you're already paying for premium, you'll get it as soon as they introduce it.

Thank you lettice, I was thinking about getting a TV box for use in my home office, might work out well if ITV are dropping Formula E.
