I'm not talking about trademarking the song, I'm talking about trademarking the use of that song in the context of F1 coverage, particularly as the intro music. I'm very well aware that it's not the BBC's song!
If you think that scenario is not trademarkable, just imagine the reaction if Clarkson, Hammond and May's new show on Amazon uses Jessica as the intro music. Anyway... March 18th can't get here soon enough. |

Anyone know if the f1 app will allow you to buy once £19.99 and use the same ID on iOS and Android. It was promised last year, but not sure it ever happened..
Looked on the f1 site and it seems much the same app. Really only use the timing screens that are free and did not really think the extra video content was worth it. Perhaps its getting an update nearer the time? |

They've said (and i've confirmed it) that both app & website payments are synced for this year now. There's no in-app purchase through Google Play or whatever apple use, it just goes through the F1 website. I have noticed that over last year, the amount of video content that was 'Premium' vs the free stuff dramatically became less & less paid & more free over the years. I think the only stuff that's premium now is the session highlights taken from the raw feed (Using the actual commentary).
I would argue that if they put something more substantive behind the pay wall in the first place, then people may have been more inclined to pay from the get-go. |

Which would suggest that very, very few people are actually paying for the Premium stuff.

The stuff they were putting up last year was cool but I wouldn't say that any of it was really worth paying for, Hence why I didn't bother subscribing to it. Offer me a lot of worthwhile archive stuff and/or website live streaming of at the very least things like the OnBoards, Pit lane etc... (Which sky don't give you anymore if you don't have an ipad) & I'd be more than happy to subscribe providing the price was reasonable. |

The only thing's that I can see creating an increase in premium membership is archive races or live streaming of some kind.

Anyone know why this isn't provided to the Sky Sports Android App?
Bit of a pisstake they only make it available to iPad users!! I'm on the iOS and Android sky sports/sky go beta trials and we have asked the question many times.of the Dev team and they just say its not in any plans. Android, as I know to well can be a headache to code/develop with such things with its myriad of devices. That is their starter for ten stumbling block. As well as iPad, there will still be the red button on sky F1 channel on the sky+ hd boxes. Had noone confirm it works with the skyq boxes, except that it may not via the Sky Q Mini. As for the F1 app, thanks guys, looks like I will just use the free one then. Not much incentive to pay for it, will divert the cash to another motorsport app somewhere. |

If you really want to listen to it just buy Rumours. It's a good album, and you get to hear the whole song without the BBC looping it and putting silly engine noises over the top. |

It's not a trademark, but it's entirely believable that Fleetwood Mac's publishing company signed a semi-exclusive deal with the BBC that would prevent it being used by another broadcaster for F1 (probably the case for Jessica too). Though I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out that somehow Bernie owns it.

See its funny how you all associate it with BBC. I associate it with F1. The fact it was on BBC at the time is neither here nor there to me - when I hear the track, I think F1, not BBC.
Although I have watched F1 for 30-odd years, I don't follow it anywhere near as much as most of you so I guess I am a casual fan, and if the above holds true for most casual fans, then C4 using it makes complete sense to me. |

I would argue that if they put something more substantive behind the pay wall in the first place, then people may have been more inclined to pay from the get-go. It's all very odd because a few years ago I think you reported that as part of FOM's leaked Singapore Stock Exchange plans, they implied they had the power at any time to yank the broadcaster's online rights & have them revert back to FOM (so as to launch an in-house streaming package). So i'm confused now as to why the broadcaster's holding the rights is an issue... Although I suspect the broadcasters may have threatened to refused to pay higher fees to FOM if they don't have online exclusivity. I mean if I was in charge of Sky, I would. Even so it's a bad move IMO that Sky have stopped broadcasting the additional feeds online (even though you'd have a subscription). Wish that could be rectified. If Channel 4 don't steam the extra feeds online then I guess that serves as another incentive for FOM to bring those streams in-house. |

If FOM do have an option to pull the online rights from broadcasters & haven't done it yet & show no sign of doing it then its either because they don't want upset the broadcasters or because they (Or more likely Bernie) don't want to invest in the infrastructure to supply online streaming themselves & don't want to do it via a partner like YouTube, Dailymotion, Livestream etc...
I think WEC, WRC, MotoGP & all the others who are supplying official streaming are embracing what is in my opinion the obvious future of broadcasting & FOM are simply been left behind. F1 is losing TV viewers & blindly sticking with the traditional model & indeed moving to PayTV services like Sky isn't going to do anything to bring people back. |

It's more likely that Bernie is afraid of upsetting the broadcasters IMO. He's probably worried that the broadcasters would insist on cut-price deals or stop showing F1 all together, if FOM launches their own in-house streaming portal (Which did happen when the WWE Network launched in the US - it pissed off several broadcasters). Although I can tell you that with sports like the WEC & WRC at least, they're streaming it online because they can't get enough value & reach from broadcast contracts alone, so they may as well go direct to the viewer. F1 still has that cache from the name etc. that attracts TV companies who will be willing to give FOM big bucks for exclusive rights. From a business point of view, it doesn't matter if you only have a handful of viewers if the TV company is still locked into paying megabucks for it because of an agreement they signed several years ago. If a Pay TV operator can afford to spend billions on football, then they'll spend a lot on F1, regardless of their viewing figures - as long as the TV company can still afford it (assuming they want to show it in the first place of course). Which is better for a business, to please 100 and get £1000, or please 1000 but only get £100? I imagine we'll get in-house live streaming from FOM when the next round of broadcasting contracts are up for renewal. |

Apparently FOM are in talks w/ the broadcasters to put the "Additional Content" feeds as live-streams as a premium feature in F1 Access, as apparently they're not so locked down re. Broadcaster-exclusivity as the main World Feed is. Although at the moment the Pit Lane feed includes the raw World Feed in a Picture-in-Picture inset so I don't know how that affects things.

In bold, that was to do with the 'Sky GO' Windows app changes and usage. No other reason. Sorry cant say anymore on that. The sky F1 red button and iPad will still have the extra streams this year. Don't forget that there will be a sky sports app as part of Sky Q, you never know

I remember years ago, probably in the 70's or 80's there was a programme on ITV which had a theme tune and a BBC programme (may have been Grange Hill - I can't remember) started using the same tune then the ITV show (May have been Give Us A Clue) changed it's theme tune.
So it's not a unique situation There is a good wiki on Production Music which might be worth reading for those interested. It answers a lot of your questions and well worth looking at the help and faqs on the De Wolfe website. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Produc...free_libraries |

I'm not reading this thread much at the moment but do you know what streams they are? The normal streams that Sky show?
1. Pit Lane Channel 2. Onboard Mix 3. Driver Tracker 4. Highlights Channel 5. Timing Channel And possibly the 8 additional Onboard Feeds (Whether FOM classes them as part of the 'official' package), I don't know. Although given that the system can now apparently accommodate. 22 simultaneous HD feeds from 2016 (rather than 9 SD feeds - if you include the mix to the initial 8), i'd be amazed if a broadcaster, FOM included, offers all 22 as part of their streaming package. |

NOW, Regarding the song used as theme music. A MUCH better song would be... Joni Mitchell- Why Do You Dream Flat Tyres" Jp |
