For the second time in two days, I'm having to say "Thank you" - what will the neighbours say.

If these negotiations come to fruition, I would worry that it's simply another group looking to take as much as they can out of F1.

Interestingly (or not), my Sky package that gives me HD for all the channels except Sky Sports 1-4 still lets me get Sky Sports Mix HD, so I'll actually get to see my first Sky F1 in HD this weekend (not my first F1 in HD because of BBC/C4, though).

It's funny listening to them plugging UHD hard when HD itself is still not fully "the norm" but still has a premium product aspect to it.

The last round at Valencia will be in 4K this season.

Because SSM is part of both Variety & Original, it falls in the scope of Variety being where you get the Entertainment channels in HD and because SSM HD is part of Variety, you get it in HD.

I *think* with SkyQ (whether you've got the version with 4k or not), that you get their HD channels as standard anyway now. As for regular Sky, you're right in that you still have to pay extra for HD.

Ah interesting, perhaps a trial run for next year?

Looking forward to watching the SSF1 coverage in HD at last. I still find it incredulous that they charge extra for a HD sub these days.

What on earth happened with today's press conference ?
It lasted all of 8 minutes with very few questions and then went to a few principal interviews by Ted in the drivers pit.

Great to hear Priestley's analyses of Palmer's engine problems during FP2. He's with Sky all this weekend so you will hear more of him this tomorrow and Sunday.

That is what the commentators were saying during the Brno weekend. But some say they don't even know what day of the week it is!

FOM have been trying out a slightly different version of the side mounted OnBoard this weekend which is angled upwards more than usual.

Was on Vettel's car yesterday:

And Ricciardo's today:

With the usual more upward angled shot back on Vettel's car:

Not liking the Ricciardo angle. Prefer to see more of the cockpit.

Perhaps they're testing those on-board angles to avoid the halo being in the shot so much.

Interesting to see Channel 4 were on-air five minutes before Sky were today for qualifying. Wonder if Sky Sports Mix has anything to do with that.

It's been the norm since Britain I think. Practice 3 stays on air until 11:25, 30 minute programme then qualifying from 11:55.

Nice of C4 to use Ben for a sit down interview with Rosberg. Can't remember BBC ever using him outside the comm box.

Was back to the old style wider angle lens for Qualifying:

I agree.

The contrast between Lee and Karun's cameraderie in FP3 and the tiresome banter boys during the main show was striking.

Steve's "please don't go into the technicalities" reaction to Webber has epitomised C4 this year. I really hoped Whisper might buck the lowest common denominator trend, but I suppose that was always unlikely given the nature of an FTA audience, commercial imperatives and the fact the rug has been pulled out from under them with the announcement of the new Sky deal.

Priestly goes to show that engineers can bring a new dimension. The more information and background you provide, the more interesting the whole event becomes.

On another note, shall we have a whip-round? Sure I have a spare billion down the back of the sofa.

I wouldn't say it's a new dimension, remember Gary Anderson?

I've not seen Priestly in action, but it is a new dimension if he has a broadcastable voice and manner. I know that Anderson said very interesting things in an approachable way, but a successful broadcaster he wasn't (IMHO).

Nonsense, if C4 didn't see this coming (Look at the deals for other international sporting rights - they're often sown up years in advance of them coming into effect), then they're myopically naive.

This posts shows just how truly clueless you are to the realities of how rights are sold, how they're announced and how those already in contract are told!

C4 had no idea what was happening, zero! And rights are not 'sown up years in advance' either!!
Just....wow!

Well the olympics are. We allready know who has the rights for 2020 & onwards. And even if you don't know for sure, you can still predict...
