No, that'll be male football fans I expect. We don't diss female racing/rally drivers, so why would we do it to female footballers?
Jonesy is filling in for Lee on presenting Free Practice as she's in Rio. Holly is again pumping the drivers for sound bites. |

Looks like FOM have put the more angled up camera on the nose of Verstappen's car today:
https://flic.kr/p/LF1cRv Very reminiscent of this angle from 1994: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO-X3OobxWc |

I must admit, I don't like these new 'retro' onboard angles that FOM are using. They don't suit a widescreen aspect ratio very well IMO. It looks too cramped.

Really? Why? you can hardly see any of the track compared to before... It looks OK on the 90s stuff when the image is natively 4:3, but not now, it just looks weird, like someone's leant on the zoom button accidentally...

The only thing i'm less fond of with these 'retro' OnBoard shots is that the narrower angle lenses don't really give the same sense of speed that the wider angle shots do. For as cool as this shot looks the sense of speed from the same angle with a wider angle lens is far more impressive.
I do also agree to an extent that with the narrower lenses you do see a bit less as your getting a bit less peripheral vision which in a way is less ideal if your watching it during some close racing & overtaking. That been said a nice mix of different angles & different lens types is a nice addition. BTW half way through the session FOM took that shot of Verstappen's car & it ended up on Kimi's Ferrari. https://flic.kr/p/LCxFB7 Oh & no sign of any drone cameras. |

It's something different. Would actually be a nice onboard replacement for when the Halo comes in.

Just a reminder that Joe Saward was reporting back in China that FOM would be introducing a drone-cam at Monza so thats something to look out for this weekend.

Maybe they should embed a camera in the halo!

And up to FOMs usual standard as well, nice to see the static shot of the back of a goal net while a goal was scored up the other end of the pitch! Deploy the drone!

Not sure if its a drone, but quite a lot of the high pit straight camera in the two practice sessions this weekend. Its not too steady as it moves around.

OK she maybe cant get to every race, but she is missed. Do I detect a winding down in her F1 coverage to finish after this season? Or the building up of her other sports coverage for when Sky has full coverage takeover in 2019? |

For anyone that has heard them talking about the revisions at turn 1 for next year on Sky:
http://www.racingcircuits.info/asset...e223340fc5.jpg Lot more team radio on the pits channel today than has been the case for most of this year so looks as if things are getting back to how they were prior to the radio restrictions. |

So Lee at Rio Paralympics: that doesn't start til Wed 7th Sept and runs to Sun 18th Sept. I know theres 5 hours time difference Europe-> Rio but surely thats manageable leaving Italy Sun eve and she could still do pre-olympic interviews etc?

I was watching the qualifying & warm-up sessions from Monza 1994 last night & it was mentioned on the commentary that during qualifying the OnBoard camera fell off Pierre Luigi Martini's Minardi & ended up in the side-pod of Jos Verstappen's car.
That was something I don't remember hearing about before. |

No idea to most of that, but I guess for Rio that you would want to transfer from the airport to wherever most of the sports you are covering are based, get acclimatised & over any jet lag before getting down to the prep work.
She's already filming endless insert packages for C4 to convey the up close and personal element to force tears and emotion from the easily influenced British viewing public. I miss people on here who actually know what television is about. Jp |

Nice build up from Channel 4. I turned over from Sky when that sub-Youtube feature started with Ted doing a quiz whilst being driven round a circuit. Some nice angles of Coulthard driving that Red Bull, used more footage than Sky would have, guest appearance from Mika Hakkinen, and Eddie predicting Alonso to Renault...

Loved DC driving the Red Bull around Barcelona. There are of course reasons why not, but if we could get even half those camera angles used by FOM race coverage would be so much more exciting - particularly in-helmet and looking up at steering wheel.

Using it for F1 would be a crazy idea as it'd replace a good overtaking spot with a bad one, replace Curva Grande with Benda Less Impressive and make the run from the first to second chicane too short to be an overtaking spot like it is now. I guess it'll alter the appearance a bit with a few less trees, but the Lesmo changes are more F1 relevant. |

Why were Sky talking about it? that's just a new layout for bike races.

I believe the circuit owners want to use it for F1 too.
