Vettel basically goes racing incident for turn 1 in his view... Rachel Brookes follows up with a "So was it Max who couldn't pick his line?" - basically trying to put words in Seb's mouth to blame him... Garbage chat.

That entire FOM coverage today felt - I don't know - strange...
Just look at the TV direction of the podium for instance. You could see Dan getting a bit emotional during the anthem and the director decided to cut away from close ups to shots of the crowd and wide angles. Why?? |

So who had the worst day today, guys?
FOM or Vettel? It's pretty close. |

Or Lewis - well in control but blows out and now finds himself almost 25 points behind..

For me this was an awful race from FOM. The slightest excuse to cut away from the on-track action and they took it, even when an overtake or re-pass was in prospect. It's like they'd taken lessons directly from the WTCC coverage.
I actually wondered if they had a new "pitlane and palm trees" channel and accidentally left the world feed locked on to it. It was a great race, but any time anything happened I was just anticipating an irrelevant cut to the pits so we could see someone reacting to something we couldn't see ourselves. Why do you do this to us FOM?

Far better questioning from Lee on C4. I did try to persuade you...

Yep, poor directorship all round today. - Didn't show Rosberg spinning / recovering from spin, leaving the plume of smoke unexplained. - Missed the restart after the safety car - they were still showing replays Quote:

Sky really want us to watch this one, they've included the afternoon repeat in the series link.
Hope that doesn't cause anyone a clash who is out and recording the BTCC and something else. |

Thought Croft was even worse than usual today.
Made a hash of the start and then the clueless mis identifying of the drivers, missing the obvious and missing the point. Wish he would go missing. |

I think the criticism of FOM is a bit harsh. I have just watched their coverage of the series "People Sitting in their Garage" and found it to be very relaxing. It's a pity that they had to cut away to show racing cars every so often but at least they tried to avoid anything too exciting when they did!

The appalling reliability of FOM graphics made things even harder to follow for the first few laps. It's terrible that we're going down a path of having to pay to watch races but spend the first 5 minutes trying to work out who is in what position.
The stupid driver of the day timing seemed to throw the result this race too. |

Sky have launched their Virtual Reality app for smartphones today. Quote:
Sky is to become the home of high-quality virtual reality (VR) content with the launch of a brand new app, Sky VR. The app, available now for anyone to download for free, showcases a range of immersive, 360-degree videos from Sky, and the best content from Sky’s partners including Star Wars: Red Carpet, Anthony Joshua: Becoming World Champion and clips from Disney’s The Jungle Book. You can use it standalone with your a smartphone or with your google cardboard, Samsung Gear VR or Oculus Rift. To coincide with the app’s launch, Sky is also revealing two brand new VR experiences: Sky Sports: Closer featuring David Beckham. And, coming later this autumn, the first of a series of Sky exclusive commissions – a performance from English National Ballet’s production of Giselle ahead of its forthcoming UK tour. In his second piece of VR content for Sky Sports, David Beckham is seen entering a Sky VR simulator, which takes him and the viewer to visit the world’s best sports events at the touch of a button. The footage was created in-house by the Sky VR Studios, in collaboration with Google. Viewers will feel like they are trackside at Silverstone or have ringside seats watching Anthony Joshua App is available for iPhones and Android phones. It says min spec is Android 5.0 yet it works very well on my Galaxy Mega 6.3 that is on 4.4.2 The sky VR support page is: https://www.sky.com/SkyVR The press release is here: https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...irtual_reality There are a few F1 videos; Williams F1 behind the scenes in pits and in car on track and in the pits Ted Kraiitz in the pits during winter testing. |

I must say, I think the C4 opener this weekend was one of the most bizarre pieces of sports television I've ever seen. It was so nearly up there with this wacky Cricket World Cup opener from the BBC - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLHy7ehtdkQ .
The only reason that this week's opener wasn't quite as bad was that there was obviously a rationale for doing a Bake Off skit and it was all done in good humour (with an explanation of sorts at the end, although I suspect that they fitted the 'rivalry metaphor' on after deciding to mess around with a Bake Off skit), rather than the sheer bizarre-ness of the cricket montage, that was never explained. (Funnily enough, the VT producer on that cricket programme was Sunil Patel who went onto the BBC F1 production and now owns Whisper Films) |

I thought the Bake Off VT was funny!
Liked the entire weekend from Channel 4 but again, it reminded me how bleak the UK coverage will be once Sky become the exclusive UK broadcaster and we lose Channel 4. |

Do you have a phone strapped to your head?
Have used a Gear VR in the past and found 15 mins is about the limit you can bear for balance, weight, eye strain and concentration. But you can use the sky app standalone, so just holding the phone with one hand and use movement or even swipe to get the 360 experience. Much like you would from a 360 YouTube video. Of course you then do not see the depth of field that you get with the headset if you care for that. Do see this as more of a fad for many much like 3D. But good to have some more innovative content for F1 like Formula E have been doing for sometime. Formula E have started to put up highlights of races recently as 360 videos that work well. |

What's happened to C4's big presenting team? Have they dropped Prost and Woolf? Murray's only been used for an interview with Jenson (very good as it was) and he didn't do the Horner one. Lewis's brother hasn't appeared at all and Eddie Jordan only sparingly.
That said, the core team is very good indeed - Mark Webber, Lee McKenzie and Karun Chandhock especially. |

Murray has stopped writing for F1 Racing so I think he's winding down his workload, for whatever reason.

I also think it is better when it used so sparingly that you're quite surprised and enjoy what he is doing even more |

Only Murray could get away with something like "GO GO GO!" but don't you think it would be nice for Croft and Edwards to vary how they call the start from time to time? They both say the same thing - "lights out and away we go".
Having said that, I think the whole delayed start procedure this weekend confused everyone and it might not have been said at all. I know Edwards didn't say anything until after the cars had got going. |
