Only delayed by a few seconds though. Brundle originally (before we saw/heard from Sainz) thought they'd have to abort the start because of a problem with the start lights not coming on (by the way, I agree re maybe varying what they say from time to time, though nothing will ever match GO GO GO from Murray Walker (who I'm always surprised hasn't yet been knighted).

It was the strangest start I can recall. I don't ever remember seeing a start still going ahead where yellow flags/lights were showing before the five lights sequence had started

I kinda like the way Edwards growls "Lights out, Away we go." which he coined first back in A1GP so it is his catchphrase. Croft varies it a little by adding "It's lights out and away we go" but that particular version has never fitted right with me for some reason.

I'm pretty sure Ben used "lights out, away we go" in BTCC, well before the start of A1GP. He may even have been using it on circuit commentary in the early 90s.

The commentators doing it doesn't bother me too much, but the thing with "lights out" that annoys me is Simon Lazenby, he never ever refers to the start, it's always "lights out" whether the sentence he's using it in makes sense saying it like that or not and even when it does, telling you how long it is until "lights out" every few minutes is repetitive and dull (and inaccurate since the countdown is to the start of the parade lap), having a bit of variety would make Sky's build up far less drab. Annoyingly Steve Jones said "lights out" a lot over the weekend on Channel 4 too.

Interesting tweet from Ben Gallop:

JB Perrette of @Eurosport_UK tells #Leaders16: "We're thrilled to have F1 in the family" & hints there will be news "further down the road".
I guess if Sky wanted to disband the F1 channel, the support races could shift back to Eurosport.

I think you'll find Bob Varsha coined the term "LIGHTS OUT" but then he'd shut up all the way through the first corner.

It'll be interesting for us lot, but I'm not sure it's the right thing to do. Drivers need to be able to speak robustly without having to worry about the media making a drama out of it.

e.g. "Psychological edge for Hamilton as Rosberg raises track safety concern" sort of nonsense I'm sure we'll get.

Is that Liberty's first play for more/continual content?

Agreed, if true it's a bad idea.

Do FOM film them already and just not air them? Just wondering as I'm sure there were clips from the driver's briefings in the Senna movie.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the amount of emails Sky have been sending me recently offering me Sky Sports at a discount?

I've had about 5 in the last month trying to get me to upgrade to Sky Sports with various offers from 3 months half price Sky Sports to 12 months half price, all without a contract.
I upgraded to Sky+HD from Sky+ in early 2012 to get the channel and have never had as many emails about it over the years of subbing to Sky. If anything I am more likely to cancel Sky altogether.

Crofty has only done this since being with Sky, no doubt its a blatant attempt to copy Ben IMHO

No. The drivers briefings in the Senna movie was well before FOM's days. They were filmed by a/the local broadcaster at the time, I think for a documentary? You can see the raw clips on YouTube - the clips in the Senna movie are heavily cut/edited down. I think possibly FOCA may have used bits of them in those years' season reviews, not sure from memory though.

Bye-Bye Alex Jacques (for the UK) then... and hello ad breaks (and pre-empting of the support races by other sports no doubt - they've royally ****ed over the porsche Supercup live coverage this year IMO)!

Sky has exclusive rights to F1 and its support races in the UK from 2018-2022. Eurosport isn't able to do anything before the end of that contract.

Unlesss Sky want to dump the F1 channel and get out of showing the support races earlier than the contract officially ends & stick F1 on one of the main Sky Sports channels...

Brookes made another meal of interviewing Hamilton. He said "I don't understand the question" and I don't blame him! I thought exactly the same.

Her interviews with Lewis are generally a disaster because:
a) she says silly things
b) he can be short and curt which completely throws her

As the quote specifically mentions F1, I wonder if it's Sky have sub-let the free to air rights from 2019 onwards and Eurosport UK will either go FTA or launch a new FTA channel.
