Really disappointing schedule on Sky actually - have paid for a Sky Sports subscription on NowTV, but don't want to get up at 5:30 am to watch it live. The race repeat is at 12:30, but only starts at the FOM sting and wraps up after the podium interview. No build-up features, no grid walk (err) and no insightful summary from Johnny Herbert (double err). Watching the 1hr 55min programme on Sky doesn't seem to be that much greater value than Ch 4's free 2hr programme an hour later.

Ironically Haven has managed to find another channel which cuts him off mid-sentence for ads

Yes, you'd think it would be a no-brainer to just repeat everything straight after they go off air. Give people the "as live" experience, whether they had a full Sky subscription and forgot to record it, or have Now TV and can't. You'd probably get a fair few viewers who actually thought they were watching it live. Knowing my luck they'd series-link that one as well though

Channel 5 can f*ck off!
I won't be watching it on there anymore, at least ITV treated it with some respect and didn't go to an advert when only a handful of cars had crossed the line.

Thank you to stefmeister and lettice for the links and tips, I will try them out for the next race.

Not complaining, just commentating on this:

The F1 thread has more discussion about a different topic. Was the race THAT boring??

This thread has always discussed other forms of motorsport along with F1. In terms of TV coverage and presentation, which is predominantly what this thread is about, Formula E was far more significant than F1 today, what with the new graphics, commentator and channel change.

Well the only person who could trouble Rosberg after the first lap was Hamilton. If only Lewis hadn't fumbled his start...

I also prefer the new-look FE graphics. Surprised Franchitti made a few mistakes misidentifying drivers.

Notice something, You can watch all of Formula E on FTA TV. You can't with with F1.

Enjoyed both F1 and Formula e races today. I assume Channel 5 will sort there advertising timing for the future.

Unfortunately I doubt they will think they have anything to sort. From their point of view that's possibly the best time to get viewers for the adverts, whilst people are still anticipating the finishers outside the top 3 and the podium.

and the BTCC. It will be interesting to look at the viewing figures come 2019 and see who has more, F1, BTCC or (if its still on FTA TV) Formula E

Here I'll say something about F1. We heard way too much of the grumbling about blue flags from the drivers. At one point we heard Vettel say "Blue flag, come on." and even Ben said "I think we've heard enough from Vettel about the blue flag" seemed to be far more interesting radio on the Pitlane feed.
Watched it with Eir today and Ben and David had a good race aside from DC mixing up the Force Indias a couple of times.(what is about the Davids and mixing up the cars.)
Formula E, good coverage on World feed. The only thing missing imo is a proper introduction to the teams and drivers. Graphics did their job although watching on a 40 inch TV with SD pictures the text on the tower whenever a battle was being highlighted was difficult to read.

I hope they do aswell. I noticed that the ads started at 9:57, did they have to get another set out before 10am to suit the advertisers of the children's toys? If they need to go to a break after the race, wait till the first ten have gone through and pause the live feed so we can see reaction and the podium in full, even if they need to squeeze another set of ads in.

I like the new Formula E graphics, but think it would be better if they could include timing gaps on the tower. Also, ditch the animated driver graphics, they blocked the views of the cars during the grid lineup and just distracted you during the race.

The adverts for children's toys were because the race was broadcast during the 6am to 10am time slot, which usually belongs to children's programming under the Milkshake! brand.

They seriously need to tweak the timing though, they should at least let all of the competitors cross the line before cutting away. I wonder if the abrupt cut away was due to the race being elongated by the safety car period.

I like that Formula E leaves the tower on the screen, it makes it easier to keep track of the position changes. I don't like the way it expands to show extra information about the cars on-screen though, having that in a separate graphic works far better to me IMO.

I thought the F1 race was a decent one actually. Some good hard racing, good overtakes on a tough track and the Hamilton start added to a spicy race.
Commentary wasn't too bad either. Just a shame that the Sky buildup was so full of filler crap, including the track parade, i FF through most of it and what i did watch, brought down the run time to just under 35 minutes!

Johny Herbert still badly needs to go, Ant Davidson on the Sky Pad was awesome, as always and Simon was his usual creepy lecherous self.

It was a good documentary. They really captured what goes on inside a team on a race weekend.

Haven definitely needs more time to form a good relationship with Franchitti, but overall it was good coverage. Though I was surprised they didn't really read the safety car situation at all well and didn't notice how much the drivers who pitted under the SC like Di Grassi were going to benefit.

Cheers for spotting that, don't recall seeing any trailers for it. Repeated at 23:15 on Monday as well for anyone that can't iPlayer it.

Yep. I've been watching on and off with NowTV, but this weekend represented a dilemma: pay and get up early, or wait for C4. I did the latter in the end. If I still had Sky I'd have likely recorded it and watched it at a more sensible hour, but you don't get to do that with NowTV.

I have to say that although you don't miss that much watching only highlights the ad breaks are very annoying. I couldn't believe C4 went to a break just as the drivers were lining up for the start. Completely destroys the atmosphere and anticipation.

I actually enjoyed the Formula E more then Formula 1 on Sunday, F1 just seems to be predictable apart from that bad result for Lewis yesterday.

Only skimmed through Sky's pre-race coverage at Suzuka but as somebody mentioned, odd that there was no gridwalk. Did they not make reference to the fact they weren't doing it and why? If not, even stranger.

There is a race or 2 every year Martin doesn't do a grid walk... Since the early days!!!

Not really an issue. Although it could have meant an extra 10 mins in my kip! 😂
