Kimi in front of the camera, still not happy. The unveiling is running a little late- James Allen is hosting, and yes- it's a white top with tricolour hoops around air box.
And the stream stopped for me just as James Allison was explaining how this was the first time he's seen the car. Before that some quick words with Seb and Kimi towing the corporate line as they have to in that sort of environment but for the 10 minutes it was working, it was nice to F1 back on the screen. Noticed that Sky Sports both F1 and NewsHQ were not showing the launch live.

Put the stream from my iPad through chromecast to tv and it was pretty good, not a glitch. It was late and I'm sure that video at the beginning got cut abruptly and the sound was very low at that point.
Shame we had to have some translation for Maurizio.
More fan questions and some not so good answers. Kimi his usual I'm bored why am I here expression, but don't you love him!
Whose going to get the signed screen, is it up for auction?

Mercedes have put out a Helmet-Cam video from the shakedown of the new car.

You can see the new FIA high speed safety camera on top of the chassis.

They also confirmed something which i'd spotted at the time, That the camera pod on these cars was slightly different to the normal T-cam pod.

Here is the normal T-cam, It has the raised area in the center & a single fin/antenna towards the back:

The 'new' unit is flat & has 2 fins/antenna's down the center:

According to this person the reason the footage of Sainz crash wasn't shown live during FP3 was because these new cameras were not transmitting through the system that was available to the director at the circuit & was instead been sent back to biggin hill which is where the testing was been run. The footage wasn't sent to the director at the circuit until after the session & he played it into the broadcast just prior to the start of qualifying which is where the broadcasters like Sky picked it up.

The plan according to this person is for every car to carry one of the new cameras this year & that as-per the article I discussed in an earlier post the plan is to try & get live feeds from every car, Although they are currently unsure if this will be possible in reality & won't know for sure until Melbourne when they have the new cameras & new systems fully setup.”

Can you suggest he posts here again? He'd probaby have a far more appreciative audience re. the broadcasting stuff here than the "OMG BERNIE'S AN EVIL DWARF" crowd on F1 Fanatic.

I can't tell from that comparison tbh, although it doesn't help that the lighting on the HD example is pretty washed out.

The HD OnBoards FOM were testing at the end of last year (Including in that shot of Sainz) were apparently the same cameras as what is used in Formula E.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw_V6uFbNp8

Notice how like the shot of Sainz the F.E. OnBoards do look a bit washed out in brighter light & they do at times also suffer similar image break-up to what that shot from Sainz's car did.

If it was a HD camera been tested & they are going to be introduced for this year then we will find out for sure in less than a month. Would certainly be disappointing if it proves not to be correct, Especially given how just about everything else is already using HD OnBoards & how Nascar/Indycar have been doing so for 8-9 years already.

For real?? Excuse me but the difference is pretty imense: the HD image from Sainz is sharper, has enhanced colors and you don't see those white edges around details like frontwing, antennas which are typical for an upscale.

Been enjoying the last week or so of fanschoice.tv free coverage of nascar.
Does not look like they will have the Daytona 500 tonight, anyone know if its streamed live legally anywhere? Hope its not just that Premiere channel.
Might get one of my US friends to give me one of their spare Fox Go if not.

In addition to their plans to have a daily update with expert analysis after each test http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/35346038 , 5 Live have just played their remix of The Chain to announce that the season is coming soon.

No indication as to who their team will be. In my opinion a possible Channel 4 team of Coulthard, Edwards, Jones, Clarkson, McNish, Gow and John Watson /Maurice Hamilton/Mark Blundell would be weaker than Sky F1

OK I see it on the antennas now, but even so the colours on that HD cam are just terrible. I know there's more natural light in the HD pic rather than the SD one, but even so, the colours are just so washed out, especially on the tarmac & the reflections on the Red Bull.

Premier has a freeview this weekend, so you can watch on your TV.

Its a funny thing about the newer/better sensors in HD/4K cameras - they have more dynamic range (can see darker and brighter areas better) but the native picture looks really dull until its put through a colour corrector. Only then can you see the quality of the image. Assuming that this is that kind of sensor (and not just a rubbish sensor) since it was in a testing phase, they would not have expected it to make it to air and so not corrected it.

Though a completely different camera, the first four pictures give you the idea

Be aware if you're not subscribed HD will be on 462 rather than earlier in the EPG.

Got SSN set to record through tomorrow as well as the 2 SSF1 shows ready to capture & put on Dailymotion as usual.

I had hoped to have brought some new capture equipment so that I could capture in HD but sadly not had the cash to spare to buy the stuff i'd like to so that will have to wait & my 13 year old Pinnacle PCTV Stereo capture card will get a bit more use.

Speaking on DM, Put a compilation of all the shots from that helmet-cam David Coulthard had on during the 2008 Brazilian Gp up earlier:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3t...-onboard_sport

As well as the all too brief shots from the Helmet-Cam Will Stevens had on at Monaco last year:

When Bernie says things like this, it must really annoy the likes of Sky and Channel 4...
