To me, if you do past tense commentary, you're robbed of any surprise because the commentator almost always has to start explaining it before it happens.”

There's no colour commentary from Graham Goodwin, that's what makes it obvious that it's not live audio on the WEC highlights videos.

The present tense commentary is often too exact and too well timed to be believable, as the commentator knows what they have to say and when to say it. There's no rawness or realistic delay to what they are seeing as you would get in a real live commentary.

I think Brundle's commentary at the time was something along the lines of "'you do that one more time!' he's saying!"

Not the 1st time FOM have released something like this that has been a bit of a disappointment.

Anyone remember the 50 years of F1 OnBoard DVD which was an hour long but only featured half hour of OnBoard stuff which had all been seen before with the other half hour been a half-heated run-down of all world champions to that date.

With all the OnBoard stuff FOM have that should have been longer & far better than it was & featured more than stuff that had been seen many times before.

I don't believe FOM released that DVD themselves? Especially if it's called "50 years of onboard" when FOM (broadly speaking) only have the rights from 1981 onwards...

Ahh, it was produced by a company called "Ardennes Productions" with the relevant stuff licensed from FOM.

Not sure if this has been confirmed

I would also like to point out the race program also has a 9pm finish with the race starting at 7pm because of the new season of Humans. Probably means post-race/qualifying coverage will be on More4.

I believe the latest Digiguide update has it billed as a 9pm finish, which is even later than the usual 45 minutes of post-quali on Sky.

As Subaru has mentioned, it's the race day coverage which may be interrupted. Looks like they're planning on doing an ITV. Was it Canada 2006 where they had to rush off-air on ITV and switch to ITV4?

Meanwhile, there's been a new addition to the Sky schedule. 'Two Weeks to Win - Mercedes F1' is airing straight after the USGP according to the EPG. I can't possibly imagine what that's all about.

Meanwhile Sky Sports Mix has a piece of live F1 this weekend, Free Practice 1.
Will also show qualifying but delayed.

Looks like another MotorSport documentary is on the way, This one's called '24 Hour War' & is looking at the rivalry between Ford & Ferrari at Le Mans in the 60s.

Dont need to look that far back. Just look at this year and the concessions Ford were given for LeMans. Ferrari et all were livid.

Yeah but the controversial lights penalty near the end of the race balanced it out though

Japan was wunderful
People are so friendly and happy
Food, culture and the scenery was an eye opener, enjoyed, we tried it all
Japan was not as expensive as we thought, glad we shipped home all goodies we bought
Wifi was everywhere and worked without fail
Tokyo was very very busy all the time and noisy, but lots to do and see
F1 track seats we had were great position
Allowed on pre races days to wonder all round track
Trains on raceday very frequent but packed like sardines
Trains everywhere all on time, fast and comfortable
Food in circuit was very varied and looked spectacular, we took our own
Puts our F1 track side food to shame, Silverstone is always over priced, dirty, smelly and pretty indigestible
The best though is still with Austin and Montreal F1 food vendors, without the cheese
Japan is so clean, its spotless everywhere, even the F1 circuit, even the bins are always spotless
Hamilton is not much liked there, Jenson and Raikkonen are both heros
They told us they were welcoming Verstappen into their lives
Japanese F1 fans are crazy and fanatical, dress up in all sorts, its like Ascot ladies day ten fold with the hats and costumes
Best on track audio and track tv seen anywhere
Recommend the trip to anyone, but extend it like we did, its a lifetime trip

4k and VR tests were happening, sky were running with that we heard

What i'd really hope FOM has in their archive is the masters for the 1991 early High-Definition Laserdisc about the Japanese Grand Prix. That would be awsome if they could digitise it onto blu-ray, especially if they had access to the raw footage to produce a japanese commentary-free soundtrack without any burnt in japanese on-screen graphics. https://dadons-laserdiscs.com/it-s-r...vision-ld-hdtv

I've got Low-ish quality/Letterboxed rips of those (Both 1991 & 1992 versions) & the limited bits of on-screen graphics are in English & there isn't any commentary. They do have some music over parts but are for the most part just the engine sounds.

I believe for the High-Definition laserdisc, Side 1 was 1991 and Side 2 was 1992, according to the pictures on the box. One assumes the person capturing it took it from a 4:3 device?

They captured it using a DVD Recorder then ripped the DVD Disc to a file on PC which is what I was then uploaded to a torrent site which is where i downloaded it from.

Its letterboxed & interlaced sadly so the quality isn't great, But its watchable.

I have no community warnings in Japan.

Ron Dennis leaving McLaren entirely by the sounds of it (or maybe he's staying on in some role with McLaren Automotive, the article isn't clear): http://www.autosport.com/news/report...claren-top-job

Article says the deadline for him to raise capital to buy the 75% of McLaren he doesn't own wasn't met.

Wow somebody really cocked up on the audio for the drivers press confrence. First two minutes was someone chatting trackside looking forward to seeing Ted do his notebook amongst other conversations. Don't know if it was Sky or FOM but certainly not expecting that lol.

Damn, on the F1 app, on the timetable part, FOM used to have the full event itenery including support race times (which was handly as from there you could adjust it to your local timezone), now it just shows the F1 events *grumble grumble grumble*

Also, is the US GP always from 8 til 10PM UK time? Unless in previous years it was after the clocks changed (so 7 til 9PM)?

She said that she personally knows Jacques Villeneuve because he is or was "from her area" and that she would like to "hunt Ted down". By the sounds of it she was talking to members of the UK Sky team as she was saying how much better she thought their coverage was (than presumably Sky Italia). Hehe, what a balls up. She swore (or at least half-swore) at the start as well. This was a conversation that nobody was supposed to hear.

Find it funny how Sky use such dramatic music in the build up to showing the live press conference. "DRIVER'S PRESS CONFERENCE COMING SOON"

Ironically though, the press conference has gone from being "boring" to arguably the highlight of the weekend given Hamilton's antics last time around and subsequent questions he received about the subject this time around.
