Find it funny how Sky use such dramatic music in the build up to showing the live press conference. "DRIVER'S PRESS CONFERENCE COMING SOON"
It is just stock Sky library music used as a 'hold' until the world feed is ready. It was used as Ident music a few years ago.

Ironically though, the press conference has gone from being "boring" to arguably the highlight of the weekend given Hamilton's antics last time around and subsequent questions he received about the subject this time around.
Sky are mindless fools. Perhaps they could get improve the F1 show some more by getting a bit more mileage out of Lewis crying that Nicholas hit him. It's only in the opening sequence for everything.

Lewis really let us down in the press conference mostly normal behaviour. All he did was wear fake eye glasses and make up an injury which we only get to hear of once the WDC is almost lost.

Weak stuff really. He could have gone trump and said he will refuse to accept the result unless he wins that would have been funnier.

She said that she personally knows Jacques Villeneuve because he is or was "from her area" and that she would like to "hunt Ted down". By the sounds of it she was talking to members of the UK Sky team as she was saying how much better she thought their coverage was (than presumably Sky Italia). Hehe, what a balls up. She swore (or at least half-swore) at the start as well. This was a conversation that nobody was supposed to hear.

That music has always made me chuckle, tbh that alone is one of the highlights of the weekend for me! You can see why the drivers get frustrated though. There was a ridiculous question about Prince and a lot of he questions tend to ask the bleeding obvious. Although this week's was above average.

That would have been really funny, to us on this thread anyway. The press however would have quoted him our of context and torn him apart for the next month for being a sore loser, or for getting involved in politics, or both..

Which is why we're condemned to bland and uninformative press conferences that are of no real use at all.

See James Hunt would have just not cared what the press said.

Listening to the Local commentary option on the F1 app (the International commentary is BBC Radio 5 Live). Of course being america, it's the NBC team. Surprising that they're not breaking for adverts or stuff like that yet...

It's mostly British guys it seems so far (maybe Steve Matchett?) Does F1 have radio coverage in America anyway though?
If it it's Steve Matchett then I would have thought it would be the NBC commentary.

Yes it is them. I was surprised, I was expecting a "Live at the United States Grand Prix brought to you by NBC" every 30secs lol

Might want to check your mindless box then mate, those opening titles are a year old and they don't use them on raceday weekends anymore! Still you know about the whaleing right?

Apparently FOM are testing a beta version of the app (with selected members of the public) which has all onboards live-streaming. Also it seems that (another first), the race programme for the US grand prix is available free on the F1 website: http://www.formula1.com/en/latest/he...s-grand-p.html

They also going to have a staff overhaul for the new app so even though the same publisher, (F1 Digital Media) the people creating it will be different. I wonder if they will geo-block here though or put a price to access these?

I can not wait to see how much that will cost next year...

Yes beyond me why anybody would call Japan the greatest nation ever when they take part in that sick slaughter.

Sounds like sky are gearing up to bore us about track limits again.

I wish they wouldn't white lines are for tennis.

First look at onboads in the new app.

A WIP at the moment but looks promising from that first shot. A teaser of the UI as well, looks more like the actual world feed and making it feel more connected with the website.

Here's another image

I hope getting Sky Italia interviewing in Italian isn't the solution for Sky combining resources...

F1 Access might actually be worth the money next season then. The only thing you get now is live timing via the app and website which is way behind where it should be. I personally thought the original version in 2014 was far better than the current layout.

From next year I expect to have all team radio available live and unrestricted at the very least which was mooted after the Liberty takeover. Live streaming (onboards, pit lane, circuit map and timing only I suspect) would be great along with archive access back to 1981 with full playback of each session from 2017 onwards (including world feed & choice of commentary) the day after would be ideal and should be the aim by 2018 at the latest.

Rachel is there so it's not cost saving. I can't think of a single reason why they've been doing this for only the Ferrari drivers (or at all) for a few races now when Rachel will get them a few moments later. Even Simon joked afterwards that they had no idea what was being said.

On board streaming on the app, downloadable event programmes...sounds an awful lot like Formula E to me!

Apologies if this has been mentioned but it looked to me as if at least one of the on-board shots shown today was in full HD quality? Was it? Looked noticeably clearer to me, and I don't think it was just the sunshine!

All the OnBoards have been Full HD since the start of this season.

Really? Only taken me this long to notice...

Seriously though, something about it looked noticeably different to me. They were experimenting in Singapore with UHD so are those still going on? Would that in any way have an enhanced effect? Most of the technical chat within this thread about framerates and resolutions goes over my head. I don't know all the ins and outs - just that it looked different... to me.

If they are broadcasting in UHD then its possible that there would be some benefit in clarity even on the downscaled 1080 HD broadcast.

I remember saying back during the Malaysian GP weekend that I thought the image looked sharper & colors more vibrant & I have noticed the same at Suzuka & this weekend so something seems to have changed either at FOM or Sky.

I put together this comparison earlier in the year between the old OnBoards & the new HD ones:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/165970
Its not the best as far as looking at trackside objects goes but you get a good idea of the difference in quality by looking at the increased details on the wheel, around some of the antenna's on the nose, sponsor logo's & the colors etc... As well as the lack of up-scaling artifacts around those objects that you see on the old SD cameras.

It seems that this BETA app also includes a different timing screen, At a guess i'd say it could be something akin to the Data channel & new timing screen that Damon Hill tweeted about a few races ago.

The camera on the nose of the Mercedes did look higher quality than usual to me.

Who was the television race director today? I got the impression they work for some shitty teen mag with the constant obsession with cutting to the celebs in the garages!
Got on my bloody nerves!!

The onboards have looked great all season IMHO!
