Rachel said last week on Sky Sports News she will continue as last year, reporting, interviewing and presenting.
If you watch Sky Sports News shes has done quite a bit already for the new season.

For me the F1 show works best with the sky boys and a few guests sitting around the couch or in the pitlane area and none of the studio audience bore.
Agee with this. I don't watch the F1 show when it has the audience.

Thanks!
Was on the 2015 thread at times too.

F1 show when Pinkham is on is a huge turn-off for me. Cannot stand her.
The studio shows are always boring too!

Both broadcasters must have wished button had given up the struggle with mclaren this year and he'd done a brundle....

Button may end up wishing that too.

As somebody that doesn't follow Nascar & doesn't especially care for it do Nascar fans actually agree with some of this stuff? Do they really like stuff like GWC, The chase & dumb gimmicks like competition cautions every 20 minutes?

Just wondering.

Not watched NASCAR live since it went to Premier Sports, but this is a really sucky gimmick IMO, and I really hope they don't extend it to the main series.

Lee McKenzie confirmed as touchline reporter for BBC Six Nations rugby.

That pretty much confirms she won't be doing F1 with anyone.

That schedule looks like it only conflicts with one F1 race, Melbourne on 20 March. As someone who clearly seems to know more about these sorts of things than me, do you think that rules her out of a gig with Channel 4?

I think it does.

I expect C4 to be on site for all races (including highlights races) but at a minimum their pitlane reporter and interviewer have to be on site.

I also think Lee doing Six Nations fits in to a broader picture with her also in position to do other BBC sport like the Olympics.

So confirmation of her doing Six Nations is, I think, a conclusive pointer that she will be staying with the BBC - doing enough work across the year to rule out any F1 TV role.

I noted that the Rio games are in the F1 break slot therefore no F1 issue there

WRC Rally Monte Carlo 2016

The biggest rally championship in the world returns tomorrow with the start of the Rally Monte Carlo, the first round of the 2016 WRC season.

VW will begin their title defense again with Sebastian Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala at the wheel again, but on their tails are Hyundai with their brand new 2016 car and the improving M-Sport team. Sadly you won't see the works Citroen team this year although they will be back next year.

Motors TV and BT Sport continue to broadcast all the rounds with BT Sport showing selected stages live each round including the power stage and whatever WRC+ show plus the 30 minute daily highlights show which Motors TV will show obiet with different commentary.

New to the TV side this year is the welcoming of Channel 5 and gone is ITV4. Channel 5 will show highlights of every round including a weekly magazine programme before each rally airing on sister channel Spike and the Rally GB power stage live. (Also on Spike)

Below is all the scheduling for the 2016 WRC Monte Carlo:

Channel 5:
25/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Highlights (7:00pm-8:00pm)

Motors TV: (All shows airing at 10:35pm)
22/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 1
23/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 2
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 3

BT Sport:
Live:
21/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Stage 1 (7:00pm-8:00pm) [BT Sport 1]
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Power Stage (11:00am-12:00pm) [BT Sport 2]

Highlights: (All shows airing at 10:00pm)
22/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 1 (BT Sport 1)
23/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 2 (BT Sport 1)
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 3 (BT Sport 1)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you didn't watch the magazine show you may note that the WRC feed will have a new intro and major changes to the current graphics package which I thinks more WRC.

New to the TV side this year is the welcoming of Channel 5 who will be sharing the 52 minute rally highlights with ITV4.
I'm not convinced the ITV4 part is accurate - there's little logic in broadcasting "selected rounds" and only in highlights form.

Weird as well as the last thing I read was that ITV4 would be sharing the 52 minute highlights with Channel 5 although i didn't know how it work. Now I'm reading on your blog that they have lost it completely.

Confusing times at the moment although after reading the post I do believe the latter, will modify post quickly.

I think it is safe to assume that the British GP and the Abu Dhabi GP are channel 4's first two picks. (You have to have the British GP, and whilst the Abu Dhabi GP may not be automatically the second pick, if it was elsewhere in the season, you have to have the last race, in case it turns out to be the title decider.)

Third pick? I predicted Monaco, but obviously that is a Sky exclusive race.

So I think it must be either Mexico or Italy. Italy is a classic track, but Mexico is prime time.

ITV no longer have WRC rights. The FTA highlights are on Channel5 only

The 3 races before Abu Dhabi are all prime time (US, Mexico, Brazil) and Ch 4 would have to have at least one of them based on the pick rules, even if they didn't choose it in the first round.

Which now means that the WRC has appeared on all terrestrial broadcasters this century - BBC, C4, ITV and now C5. And that's before you even get started on everyone else who has shown it (Eurosport, Motors TV, BT, ESPN, S4C, Dave) and probably more! Sums up the state of the sport really.

Should be noted that it isn't just the commentary that is different, The highlight packages MotorsTV show are completely different to the 'official' highlights programs which are on WRC+ & BT Sport.

The MotorsTV highlights packages usually feature more OnBoard material & are generally less in-depth & less informative than the 'official' highlights programs.

With regards to Lee Mckenzie, she has missed Grand Prix whilst working for the BBC. Usually Jennie Gow double jobbed but obviously wouldn't be able to do that this time.
But still, I wouldn't rule out lee just yet.

She's had a solid job with the BBC for years so i don't see her jumping ship, not with what the BBC can offer her in terms of roles whereas Channel 4 can't.

WRC have put up a video featuring a lot of footage that they shot while testing drones at last year's rally Germany:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9SsGgvUluI

Cool stuff

It ends with a URL which confirms that the maker of the drones (DJI) have teamed up with the WRC & will be providing drone footage throughout 2016:
http://events.dji.com/WRC/

DJI is teaming up with the FIA World Rally Championship in 2016 to broadcast the series from an exciting new perspective at all 14 rounds, beginning at Rallye Monte Carlo, 21st– 24th January!

How long until we get drones hovering a few feet above F1 cars?
