They don't want to lose Bottas as they have no one to develop the new car. The odds are if Bottas goes, then they will have Wehrlein as the second driver and he only has one years experience(although he has a bit of test experience with Mercedes) and a rookie in the other seat.
And there seems to be some opinion that Stroll senior made sure Bottas would be contractually part of the team to provide a proper benchmark for Stroll junior, plus Martini really don't like the idea of two youngsters under legal drinking age in many countries promoting their tipple.

But I think all will be worked out and Bottas will go to Merc, it's the only deal that really makes sense even if it would be nice to see Sainz get the drive (or any of the big 4, but they definitely aren't going to happen).

Surely this is the best thing to have ever appeared on the official F1 website.

"They did their best"

Not with the title, which is as shite as ever. In keeping with the DVD content itself, by the sounds of it.

I would have preferred a proper, long-form in-depth interview with the World Champion, but it appears FOM has sided with this 'cute' crap which has very little substance... I hope they give us proper fans something to compensate it with...

No excuse for some crappy, irrelevant video like this though.

Because of course an article where Nico says the exact same things he's already said to Sky, C4, BBC, Autosport and pretty much everywhere else would be far more worthwhile.

Like it! Very well put together.

Disagree, we get interview overkill as it is during the broadcasts, please no more.

This is one of the few times FOM have done something that has gone down very well with fans and you're actually disagreeing with opinion on that as well! Unbelievable Jeff.

Perhaps they should produce a montage of celeb-only reaction shots too.

I place fake 8-bit videos in the same category I do as celeb-only reaction shots: Irrelevant nonsense whose popularity I can't fathom. To me they're the same.

The 8-bit thing is a really nice bit of humour after the season has finished. Lots of little gags and the whole thing made me feel good about the sport, especially that it can laugh at itself and with fans. It's the kind of thing I'd have expected Indycar to do actually, so I'm pleasantly surprised that it was F1 that did so. More things like this please!

On the other hand the celebrity reaction shots deliberately stop us seeing the actual racing, usually at absolutely crucial moments and for no justifiable reason.

It wouldn't be the same people producing that animation as would interview a WDC anyway so it won't have lost us anything.

Love it.
Can remember playing racing games that looked and sounded like that when they first come out. Well actually, can remember playing on racing games that were nothing more than a cabinet with a steering wheel turning a little model car from left to right to avoid other cars that you moved towards you on a painted wooden wheel as you tried to pass them - or not. Could be a good simulator for overtaking Max.
Was it just me still waiting at the end to find out whether Mercedes pick Wehrlein or Bottas ?

My only gripe with the 8-bit review is the unrealistic fast loading times.

(I should add the only 8-bit console I ever owned was the Game Boy Pocket. Many happy days playing V-Rally.)
