SSF1 have got several programmes reviewing the year, a few have already gone out but are probably available On Demand, the main one is today at 11:30AM.

Similar format to the journalist one then.
The Journos one was good and decent enough. No frills chatting... A bit 'cheap' looking but the content was good. Shows the huge decline of Sky F1's whizz and bangs. Sometimes a good thing, others less so.

"They did their best"
Not with the title, which is as shite as ever. In keeping with the DVD content itself, by the sounds of it. That's on a par with 2014's "It was fair". It's just as well F1 is taking steps to do a better job of promoting itself if this is anything to go by. Pathetic! The 8-bit review on the other hand is an absolute genius creation. I want to know who made it. Very well thought out and executed. Quote:

My favourite season review title will always be 1996: "A Champion and a Gentleman"

Any season review title is better than 09's though. "Not in any hurry" Considering this is a sport where billions of pounds are spent trying to go faster....ouch This year they could've easily gone for "A champion and a quitter!" ![]() Or Regal Rosberg Rides Reliablity to Reign then Retire Or "It wasn't Fair!"* (*before those with a sense of humour failure reply to this in rage, I'm joking ) Seriously though, "The coming (and going) Of Rosberg" might be better. Knowing Bernie names them I expected something cheesy like "Ending on a high" or something but considering there's apparently no mention of Rosberg's retirement on the DVD, I guess he'd already decided on his stupid title halfway through the season when they start putting the first half of it together. |

Oh, guess what FOM are using to show driver interviews during the racing footage in the season review: Picture-in-Picture... After all the pleading for them to use it during the race coverage, they finally use it... in the review...

When was the last time they put out a really good review?
I think the last one that I felt was really good & that i've watched more than once over the years was the 2002 review. I feel that the 2002 review not only did a great job at reviewing each race but it also did a good job with events in qualifying & even anything of interest that happened in practice & the other big stories that occurred throughout the year. I think most of the VHS reviews were like that while since they went to DVD & later Bluray from 2003 they have felt a bit rushed & have lacked a lof of the non-raceday coverage some of the older reviews had. |

I dunno about the official DVD reviews (I rarely watch them) but my favourite piece of "official" merchandise was/is the 2002 Formula 1 Annual.
Not a great season for racing but an absolutely mammoth, detailed behemoth of a book (672 pages, for crying out loud). Also included an appendix with the results of every F1 race to that point with the appropriate scoring system and grid positions etc. Of course you can get all that on the internet now but back then although it was probably available somewhere it was still a great resource to have as hard copy. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Formula-1-A.../dp/0954414705 Do they still do these annuals and if so are they still any good? I had another one from circa 2005/2006 (I remember a Renault on the cover) but although it was good it was nowhere near the level of the 2002 annual. |

Trouble is, most F1 fans buy the season review DVD each year as a matter of course, not because it's any good. Indeed, I probably won't get it this time around because it's senseless to keep doing so when you keep getting disappointed. The comments in here don't exactly make me want to rush out and buy one either. The season lasting longer and therefore closer to the end of the year doesn't help in terms of them taking time to reflect on things, make sure they've made a quality product, and add in titbits like Rosberg's retirement because they want to get it out in time for Christmas and ensure £££. |

Don't know but when they introduced music during the race highlights on one of them which must have been during the mid-naughties it was a sign of a move in the wrong direction for me.

I absolutely loved the Sony produced 2000 and 2001 reviews with all the different camera angles to choose from. I can't even begin to remember how many times I watched them both as a kid.

They don't do that anymore. Not during the racing footage itself anyway. Think they dropped that from 2008 onwards. I remember it being on the 2007 one. Ever since F1's become more and more media saturated over the course of the season, its rare they find unseen bits nowadays to stick on the DVDs, which used to be the main draw. Plus as you've said, they only have a few weeks after the season ends nowadays to finish the whole thing off, hence why there's hardly any decent post-season stuff on there. Of course, given Liberty want even more rounds, I can't see this changing sadly.

Yep, I think a free copy of one of these came with one of the Sony video games at that time. I didn't have to buy one that year because I had it on a singular Sony disc which looked like one of those demo discs you used to get from PlayStation magazines.

I didn't like the 2000 & 2001 DVD reviews, because they multi-angle clips weren't true representations of the F1Digital broadcast, and they weren't always of the same footage either, which was a shame. You couldn't seamlessly flit between one or the other, so it was a bit disjoined, but I applaud their efforts nonetheless at the time. IMO the multi-angle feature on DVDs has always been clunky...
