It doesn't help that for high-profile events like the WEC, you could pay a (comparitively) small amount to watch the whole thing - including Le Mans now - in full and with the same commentary in 720p HD through the WEC website. Of course the loss of Motors' coverage of lower-level events like national championships will be a shame.”

Massive own goal from them, so they've gone from being available to Sky customers, on Freeview via an actual channel and a webstream channel, to just a webstream channel. That won't help their viewing numbers.

I've gone from being able to watch it on all of my TVs to only one, and that requires me to switch from the Sky+HD to the Freeview tuner and to connect it to the internet.

At least it canbe added to other channels on a Sky box.

Possible own goal, more likely they can't financially pay for the epg slot or the full freeview channel.

FIM World SBK 2016 Round 1: Australia
The off-season is gone and finally it's time for the first action of two wheels this year. No this ain't MotoGP, this the World Superbike Championship and it's finally the first round of the season at Melbourne, Australia.

A couple of changes this in the format, as you all know (If you were a WSBK person) that both of the races would happen on the Sunday. Sadly time changes and it's time for change with R1 now taking place on the Saturday and free practice moving to Friday. The only good thing I find with this is that it's a longer weekend.

Don't worry though, Eurosport is back to show every round live this year and with the return of the World Superbike championship comes the return of Superbike Sunday as well as a review of last year's race. Eurosport 1 HD will show the live action of the super pole and races while Eurosport 2 HD will show 2 hour highlights of the day's action. Channel 4 will continue to show FTA highlights of the race.

Eurosport will also be on-site for the first round and present from a studio for the second year running and the guest list will include some big in the superbike world (I don't know who) and commentary will come from James Whitham and Jack Burnicle.

Below is the schedule you need for this weekend action:

Friday 26th February 2016:
10:20pm-11:20pm: WSBK Australia 2015 Review (Eurosport 1)

Saturday 27th February 2016:
12:15am-5:15am: Live WSBK Superpole/Race 1 (Eurosport 1)
9am-11am: WSBK Day 1 Highlights (Eurosport 2)

Sunday 28th February 2016:
2am-5:15am: Live WSBK Race 2 (Eurosport 1)
9am-11am: WSBK Day 2 Highlights (Eurosport 2)
9pm-11pm: WSBK Weekend Highlights (Eurosport 2)

If anything changes I will update the schedule above ”

The above listed in bold is no longer correct, ITV4 are now showing WSBK highlights. Their first showing is March 2nd at 8pm.

I think that ITV have lost MotoGP highlights rights now, I have a feeling that might now be at Channel 4..

Looks like Sky are entering the F1 advertising campaign, just seen a 30 second trailer during the Capital One Cup final.

Wonder if SKY like last year with the BBC will show no adverts during the duration of CH4 coverage? Or will this change with both being commercial broadcasters

So obviously I was completely wrong about C4 not using The Chain. I don't think I was the only one.

It repeats the last note and sounds horribly like an Acid House dance remix (or whatever it is the kids are listening to these days).

I don't see how the new qualifying process will be difficult to explain on-screen as Pat Symonds is saying. All you need is a countdown until the next drop on screen, followed by the driver who will drop out, and what is position would be as a result.

I suppose in a way that could be exciting to watch. Though there's a good chance there won't be anyone on track whilst that is happening.

I wonder what happens if two or more drivers have set no time? Who gets eliminated first?

I see it's been postponed to the 5th race, whereupon it'll be postponed to 2017 and we'll never hear of it again.

Sky reducing their race show to 60 minutes apparently, correct decision I reckon, 90 minutes just encourages waffle.

I agree. So is that 30mins airtime plus 30mins adverts? Wasn't it 60mins airtime & 30mins adverts before?

Pre-race show? Post-race show?

Fairly sure the race won't fit into 60 minutes, even at Monza...

Pre-race.

Did anyone understand why they did that thing of dividing it up into three programmes even though it was always one seamless programme with the same content all the way through?

Boosts rating for the race as most people don't care about pre/post race

If there are adverts in pre and post race on each channel, people with access to both will channel hop if they are at different times.

That was an error, they're still showing the Track Parade it looks like so 90 minutes still.

To be honest if Sky do want better racing I think they should do this (Ie: Australia):

3:30am-4:55am: F1 Aus GP Grid
4:55am-7:15am: F1 Aus GP Race Show
7:15am-8:15am: F1 Aus GP Paddock Live

Still the same total duration but spilt into 3 and with the Race Show trimmed to 2hrs 20mins compared to 3hrs and the Paddock Live show increased to an hour. I can see ratings increasing with this schedule condensed.

PS: You've seen C4's teaser trailers, now it's time for Sky's F1 trailer for this year:

Last week was a good one, spoke to People from BBC, C4, Sky and FOM - enlightening! broadcasting shocks coming - not involving me though!

There have been a lot of rumours about where F1 in the UK is headed in the next couple of years - as in the likelihood is BT Sport will have got or already have the pay TV rights at least in the bag. Wonder if this is about that?

Don't see Sky giving up them without a fight tbh!
And prety sure FOM will be smart enough to put it out to tender publicly, not secretly

Per Charles Sale:

Suzi Perry has joined BT Sport to work on MotoGP (precise role not specified):

It may not be that difficult to explain or understand, but if this DOES get the go-ahead, I think we'll be spending more time staring at timing screens and graphics during qualifying than watching cars on the track. That's the concerning thing for me.

The implication here is that one of BT's current MotoGP presenters is leaving: either Abi Griffiths, Craig Doyle or Iwan Thomas.

One of those three was in contention to be Channel 4's F1 presenter...

Even if it will not be as main presenter (but is Craig Doyle out?) she is at her best getting the lowdown on the riders.
