Before tonight's live stage I thought I would show you some of the new graphics that the WRC have this year:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Intro:
http://imgur.com/RNrn4og
http://imgur.com/aEE2GIQ

Driver/Owner Captions:
http://imgur.com/a/Epe09

Standings:
http://imgur.com/a/O6cTF

Stage Overviews:
http://imgur.com/a/tVHmy

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the above I think the graphics package is still the same but with major upgrades, the graphics lose the curved shaped looks for a more rectangular look with less black and more grey/green but they still look clean. The animations look very similar to last's years but still works well.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2016 F1 race starts times has been confirmed, key changes include:

* Azerbaijan (Euro GP) is a twilight race starting at 6pm local time (2pm BST)
* The opening round of the season (Australia) is again a 5am GMT
* Russia moves back an hour to 1pm BST
* US GP also moved back an hour to 8pm BST
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2016 race start times are out. Australia remains at 5am. Austin back at 8pm like in 2014. Baku at 2pm, just after Le Mans finishes. How fantastic....

Canada is at 7pm. If qualifying starts at the same time, the very end of the session will clash with the start of England's first Euro 2016 game. Far from ideal, obviously. Baku qualifying will also entirely clash with a Republic of Ireland game, and, of course, the first hour of Le Mans. GP2 will also apparently race at Azerbaijan, but not GP3.

Aaaand I've been beaten to all of this by Subaru who made a late edit to his post.

Nice to Baku get the twilight race treatment, although I hope the track has lights otherwise I'll have Japan 2014 on minds.

I fear that the only reason it's at that time is to avoid Le Mans. I certainly don't remember reading anything about the track having lights.

After Jules Bianchi's accident I believe the FIA regs now say that any race must start no later than 4 hours before sunset, unless it's a night race which is presumably considered to have its own lighting.

Taking of schedules the ISMA has released the TV Schedule for the SportsCar Championship:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another disappointing TV Schedule as none of the Rolex 24 is being broadcasted on FOX, and again too much channel switching. Can we have ESPN back please?

On the positive side the Lime Rock race is being broadcasted on the main FOX channel and at least we have Motors TV for coverage

Not so sure that 6pm for Baku would be a twilight race as it is in June so sunset will be sometime after 10pm local time, so baring red flags etc the race should finish well ahead of the dark, but I do prefer much more of a light buffer.

A update to the list below is that Stage 14 will also be shown live on BT Sport 1 on Sunday at 8am:

WRC Rally Monte Carlo 2016

The biggest rally championship in the world returns tomorrow with the start of the Rally Monte Carlo, the first round of the 2016 WRC season.

VW will begin their title defense again with Sebastian Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala at the wheel again, but on their tails are Hyundai with their brand new 2016 car and the improving M-Sport team. Sadly you won't see the works Citroen team this year although they will be back next year.

Motors TV and BT Sport continue to broadcast all the rounds with BT Sport showing selected stages live each round including the power stage and whatever WRC+ show plus the 30 minute daily highlights show which Motors TV will show obiet with different commentary.

New to the TV side this year is the welcoming of Channel 5 and gone is ITV4. Channel 5 will show highlights of every round including a weekly magazine programme before each rally airing on sister channel Spike and the Rally GB power stage live. (Also on Spike)

Below is all the scheduling for the 2016 WRC Monte Carlo:

Channel 5:
25/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Highlights (7:00pm-8:00pm)

Motors TV: (All shows airing at 10:35pm)
22/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 1
23/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 2
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 3

BT Sport:
Live:
21/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Stage 1 (7:00pm-8:00pm) [BT Sport 1]
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Stage 14 (8:00am-9:00am) [BT Sport 1]
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Power Stage (11:00am-12:00pm) [BT Sport 2]

Highlights: (All shows airing at 10:00pm)
22/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 1 (BT Sport 1)
23/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 2 (BT Sport 1)
24/1/16: WRC Rally Monte Carlo Day 3 (BT Sport 1)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you didn't watch the magazine show you may note that the WRC feed will have a new intro and major changes to the current graphics package which I thinks more WRC.
And the first stage is live now on BT Sport 1!

We have Motors for Lime Rock, but not for Daytona. They are only broadcasting a two hour highlights show.

Regarding the IMSA sportscar series, They also post all their races (And qualifying sessions) in full on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/user/UnitedSportsCar/videos

The channel was recently re-branded as IMSA Official & they went back & posted the support category races as well.

I thought the coverage of the live WRC stage last night was rather poor compared to what they were doing last year. Not really that many OnBoards, We didn't see much of several cars & they cut to full-screen interviews with the drivers within 10 seconds of them starting the stage. They also didn't bring up an end of stage leader-board (Unless I missed it somehow) so I had to find the live stage times on wrc.com to find out the finishing order.

I thought the coverage of the live stages last year was great for the most part so a bit surprising to see the 1st bit of live action for the year be a bit of a step down from that.

I did like the new live telemetry graphics though. They debuted that feature at the end of last year but it was better displayed & more real-time now which was nice to see.... Just a shame it was hardly used.

Lee McKenzie confirmed as touchline reporter for BBC Six Nations rugby.

That pretty much confirms she won't be doing F1 with anyone.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...ons-broadcasts
She'd still be available.

Last Six Nations match is on March 19, F1 starts on March 20 with a non-live race so she'd still be available for the rest of the season.

She could do F1 and miss the odd race if she's covering other stuff like the Olympics.

But thats not gonna be something Channel 4 will exactly be pleased with is it!
Its better for them to have someone consistent within the team.
Its why i wish Sky would give Rachael Brooks the job and get rid of Pinkham as it would be alot better, she is better at the job anyway and i like Brooks way better!

I think that Brookes will be in that role for the 2016 season. Pinkham won't go on the early season long haul races and she won't be doing the European races because she is due to give birth in June. I would doubt she will be doing the end of season fly aways either.

Depends if she can extract herself from any BBC contract she has or can come to agreements to work for both. Plus it depends on what she wants to do and how much C4 want her (if they do) and thus are prepared to work around her other commitments.

Whoever C4 pick, they need to have a back-up presenter available in case of sickness, unforeseen circumstances or potentially, other commitments. The BBC had a larger pool of people to make use of, with their R5L set-up plus the TV side, presumably C4 will have a smaller team, being just TV.

I'm surprised there as Motors can manage to show the Dubai 24H live for the whole duration yet Motors decide to do a 2 hour highlights package for the Rolex 24 which shocks me a bit as the Dubai race gets more priority over Daytona.

I though the coverage was ok but I do agree on cutting from live action to show interviews, I can't understand why the director couldn't stick a PiP so we can see the action. Hopefully things will gradually improve throughout the weekend.

Sorry to say the WRC rally is such a bore to watch.
Watched the highlights on Motors TV this morning.
Thought as I have before when it gets mentioned on here to try and give it another look.
But racing against a clock for me is so tedious.
Had no idea that VW even participated in Rallying, but it seems they have for a few years.
Must be lack of promotion from them or the sports press that you rarely see anything abut rallying. But then I do not really ever look for it.

One other thing and just curious, why did the co-driver (during those stop interviews) put the helmets behind the seats, seemed a tight fit and not too careful?

Think F1 should get the snow tyres on for a race and do what Verstappen did.
No spin though, but the spectators were riskily close to the action.
Onboard F1 on snow

Jesus what happens to the audio in the first few minutes on the alternative coverage, sounded like they were commentating on the phone

Luckily it got fixed halfway during Andreas Mikkelsen's interview but please WRC make sure it doesn't happen again tonight..

She could also miss the last Six Nations round, especially with the BBC now sharing with ITV. Sonia will probably be pitchside for the England match and Ross Harries or Jason Mohammed could do the role at Walers v Italy. The week before the BBC only have one live match.

With BBC Sport not being anything like it once was career wise it would be a no-brainer to take a lead role on F1 on C4 over a reporting role on the BBC. Apart from the Commonwealth Games on BBC3, which won't exist this year, and deputising on F1 and covering practice I don't think she's taken a lead presenting role on any BBC coverage, and though a trip to Rio would be very nice she's unlikely to be kicking Clare Balding or Hazel Irvine oout of the presenters chair this time.

However from a personal point of view it would be completely understandable if she'd opted to stay with the BBC after years of traveling the F1 circuit. I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities for her to freelance beyond her known BBC roles and nowadays exclusivity isn't an issue with sports broadcasting. BBC Sport personnel are cropping up everywhere except Sky it seems.

Looks like Whitmarsh has said no to Channel 4 and Sky - http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2016/0...r-ben-ainslie/

Whitmarsh is thoroughly enjoying the new challenge. He says is in no hurry to step back into F1 to offer comment on the current situation in the sport, particularly the problems for his old team, despite offers from both SKY and Channel 4. He has been asked by other F1 teams about his availability but has no desire to race against his old team McLaren.
