OK, his role is to promote the championship, comments like that (especially as a GPDA member) that basically say "We don't need safety features" are hypocritical and should be punished harshly, like when Vettel said the new engines were "Shit" a few years ago.
LOL

In what way? Kick him out the championship? That will please a good chunk of the fans. Make him grovel? I'd say 'stick it' if I was him and that happened. Its a shame the drivers don't speak up more. As some said over testing, the drivers are just pawns in other people's game

They can make sure he's singing from the same sheet as Bernie when it comes to promoting the sport and talking up about how good it all is at the moment.

Oh, wait, hang on...

Exactly this.

And speaking of Bernie, I bet he'll have an opinion on the halo at some point and won't be afraid to voice it...

I hate the fact some people think sports-people are supposed to be PR spewing robots these days. Just look at how down Hamilton usually is when speaking with the media on the Fridays or during testing. I'm betting that's not just because it's tedious and repetitive, but because he's having to think hard about every single word he says in case someone takes it out of context. That cannot be a fun part of the job...

This is the sport that gave us people like James Hunt, Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart, the list could go on and on. We should expect and encourage forthright opinions!

Secondly, the Halo we saw on the ferrari is in no way a finished design, and from what i've read (and you could read too if you'd done some research like I had) will be thinner. And re. the driver's eyeline, Both Vettel & Kimi have said that it doesn't seriously affect their visibility. So unless you've actually personally driven an F1 car with Ferrari's interpretation of the Halo on, you can't comment

And if it saves lives, then who cares what it looks like.
LOL, LOL, LOL!!!!!!
I can't reply to this without risking a ban! Just....wow!

It was Karun Chandhok in the testing yesterday.
He popped up many times.
I wondered if it was Karun who has been sending all the tweets from the circuit on the @C4F1 account during testing...

Alan Henry, one of the most respected print journalists to publish about F1 has passed away.

There's an F1 Testing Special on Sky right now hosted by Ted, with Will Buxton as one of the guests. Must've been a late addition to the schedule. I can't remember hearing anything about it.

Tuned in to it with one minute to go! But it's repeated at 9:30 tonight fortunately. Yep, can't remember hearing a thing about it on any trails or in the other testing coverage.

Spotted a program on Sky Sports F1 called Inside McLaren for 10pm, has that not been aired yet?

It's similar to the 15-minute team features that have aired in previous years - certainly nothing that Sky have filmed themselves.

Yes saw that listed as a Top Pick in On demand.
Great to see Will again. Be great if we could have him back on our screens.
Suppose he is still enjoying doing the US f1 stuff, but great to hear from him.

Ted said something in the last Notebook about another guy in the press center that was working for his third UK broadcaster. They waved at each other, can't remember who it was.

And online at formulae.com, YouTube and Dailymotion meaning we actually have more ways to watch the race without ITV Live.

EDIT: It's weird as well because the Mexico ePrix is live on BT Sport Europe get the joke?

"Mr Steve" - I believe Steve Aldous who went from ITV, BBC and now Channel 4.

The Bathurst 1000 from the V8 Supercars was also on BT Sport Europe last year.
However this is a good deal; whatever deal ITV and BT did to do this well done. Fans win out.

Over the weekend Sky were running some F1 stuff on 2 of the red button feeds.

The pit lane channel from the 2014 Chinese Gp (About 3 minutes of it on a loop):

And the Race control screen which was using OnBoard's from the 2013 USGP weekend:

The Channel 4 promotion has really kicked into gear now. DC will appear on Alan Carr: Chatty Man on Thursday night. Inevitable, really. I'd have preferred to see him appear on The Last Leg instead.

While I agree with you partially as I prefer TLL to AC: CM, the former isn't a normal chat show format. It's more of a a satirical sideswipe at the week's news, if David had gone on it he might have had to offer up his opinions on everything from Donald Trump to the EU referendum via the NHS cuts and North Korea getting more bolshy by the week and probably take part in a song, F1 might not get much of a look in.
I've never watched Chatty Man, so I don't really much about the show's format, but I think the biggest danger is that he might get flirted at from a half-sozzled Alan Carr...

I think C4 would've ensured that F1 got more than just a look in. It's the perfect show to use to promote it. Its ratings are higher at the moment, too.

Yes, they may as well promote the hell out of it - good on them if it gets F1 in front of potential new fans. If they wanted to push the technical angle, say hybrid engines, aero, crash safety, they could do a bit of promotion around The Big Bang Theory as well.

The cockpit halo discussion about it hiding even more of the driver from the spectators got me thinking: Do you think it will ever come to pass that either or both on-track spectators or TV viewers will be able to get the full experience of an actual race-driver in action using full force-feedback seat, wheel and pedals while watching the relevant on-board using a virtual reality headset?

I really hope so, it could be an amazing experience and most of the technology exists already in some form. There was some kind of VR/360 degree feed available for the Daytona 500 IIRC.

However whilst Formula 1 should in my opinion be at the forefront of this technology, I suspect it will arrive here last, because innovation costs money and things are so commercial now I'm sure someone will want a concrete business case before committing to it. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Just when you thought you'd heard the last of it, does anyone want to take bets on which qualifying system they're actually going to run this season:
