Just when you thought you'd heard the last of it, does anyone want to take bets on which qualifying system they're actually going to run this season:
http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/an...e-veto-677975/ ![]() ![]() Let's give everyone value for money and run the session twice, a fan vote on which session was best gets to be the grid...P.S. if the FIA does actually adopt that I want the proper credit

One shy of a Baker's Dozen. Take that, Sky!! Is that Lewis' kid brother? Shock, horror! Susie's had her hair done!😱Just how much time will Eddie be able to devote to both C4 & BBC 2?

I thought it was said they wanted to be different, just the same old, it looks to me. Ben Edwards and Coulthard from the little I saw on the beeb were not anything special and Ben was very shouty in his style. Eddie Jordan, no thanks. Whoever that Steve Jones is, is he the main presenter? Only surprise was Murray Walker, thought he had well retired. Im sure the last time I saw him he was trying to climb into Georgie Thompson's leather trousers. Now if he were in the commentary box that would be something. But sounds like just more interview shows, which I think all the channels have done to death recently. |

What's James Allen doing this year then?

Relieved and a little surprised to see EJ, and to a lesser extent Lee.
Even more relieved to see BE No JA then after all the rumours. And tbh, not really any shocks. |

Nick Hamilton? In the picture anyway, not mentioned on the website.
Jolyon Palmer is mentioned on the website, but obviously can't be presenting F1 as he's in it. Pleased to see Lee McKenzie. Bruno Senna is a bit of a loss for Sky, as is Murray who'd do the odd thing for them. And I thought we were safe from Eddie Jordan? Oh well. |

Real range of pundits - especially compared to Sky's early nineties driver, early nineties driver, and early nineties driver. |

Mess of a line up from C4, tired old faces from the BBC.

The Press Pack also says that Webber will be there for every live race, which of course can't be true. I think he's got something fairly important to take part in on the weekend of the Baku race. http://www.channel4.com/info/press/n...13280ae6251bb3 |

Apparently Alex Zanardi is involved as well, pushing it up to 13...
It'll be nice to see what Prost can bring though. |

Perhaps I'm getting too old, but the 'celebrity' thing these days is just a complete turn off for me Quote:
while Channel 4’s presenters put celebrities through their paces on the tracks, including Susie Wolff’s heart-pumping rides around Brands Hatch with British boxer and former world champion David Haye and actor and comedian Johnny Vegas, amongst others.
Do not mind it with Clarkson and Co Top Gear style, but not for serious sport. No mention anywhere on how they will be using any secondary streams. The Beeb used to have quite a few of the timing, on board streams. Are C4 not having them then. |

So who will cover if Ben wasn't well or wasn't able to be there for some reason? Not Murray, surely?
Am I missing something? Who else has commentary experience?Good to see Lee involved and Mark too. I don't know Steve Jones, so I'll reserve judgement but I hope Susie doesn't come across as quite as bland and she seemed to be when the Beeb used her on occasions. Having a selection of pundits to mix and match across different races should add some spice and variety. I wonder if Lee was offered the presenting job? Perhaps she'd prefer to stick with the reporting and interviewing, who knows? |

So pleased to see Lee as part of the line-up, it wouldn't have surprised me if she decided to take a step back from the Formula 1, so so pleased to see her there.

According to the ex-FOM employee over on F1 Fanatic, I don't think rotato-cams have much of a future within european motorsport: Quote:
FOM do have rotating cameras but the teams don’t like running them because they are larger, heavier & draw more power.
Also there is some evidence out there that while rotating cameras are very popular among American audiences on the ovals, Elsewhere around the world they are far less popular & many see them as a distraction & unnecessary gimmick. They used to be commonplace in the DTM series for example but focus test’s with broadcasters proved that most fans didn’t like them so WIGE (Who handles the DTM broadcast) stopped using them. Likewise Eurosport looked at using them in there WTCC coverage but backed off because viewer survey’s came back lukewarm & the WEC broadcaster found the same. |

Decent lineup from C4 all things considered.
I will give Steve Jones a chance - he's not really known for sport coverage - but then neither was Jake Humphrey when he first got the BBC F1 gig. At least Steve Jones has plenty of live tv experience. Suzie Perry always looked like a rabbit in the headlights on live broadcasts. Ben / DC commentary continuing is good Lee McKenzie continuing is good - she's always been excellent Karun Chandhok as pitlane reporter / technical expert could be a very good choice indeed. He might take a little while to get up to speed but I can see that potentially working out well - and it's a bit of a coup for C4 to pinch a (regular, if occasional) Sky F1 person. Rotating the "3rd presenter" role between Webber, EJ, Prost, Wolff is a good move. Will bring a bit of diversity and keep things fresh. Feature contributions from Walker and Bruno Senna, a rookie season blog from Jolyon Palmer. Pretty solid line up I'd say all in all. |

I think it's a great team. Obviously they won't all be there at every race - I think it's a great idea to have a rotating punditry position and the people that they've signed are all people I'd like to listen to. Using Chandok as the 'Ted' in the pit-lane is a new slant on it, and I think a very good idea. He's impressed as a broadcaster and I think, given time, can really make this role his own. (Having said that, not a totally new idea to have an ex-driver as pit reporter, as Ant Davidson was lined up to replace Ted in the BBC's 2012 line-up before Sky snapped him up)
Tongue-in-cheek for a minute - we knew that C4 would have a woman and an ethnic minority. They've also got a man with a disability (Zanardi) - boxes all ticked there, then!! I'm not being serious when I say that, but when Zanardi was announced as part of the line-up that did flash through my brain. And Nic Hamilton fits into that box too, I suppose. Getting Prost on board is a very shrewd move, alongside having EJ pop up for the occasional live race. I know people have said it's a bit same old-same old, but surely it's really good that the key broadcasting positions (commentator and interviewer) are filled by experienced, competent and well-liked people (Lee and Edwards) and then some new (ish) faces come in as part of the punditry side. There aren't many top-level motorsport commentators, and no real competition for Edwards (go on - name me somebody who you feel should have replaced Edwards, those of you moaning that he's still around? I can only think of Jack Nicholls and - IMHO - he should continue to cut his teeth on Formula E and 5 live before he undoubtedly does take on a F1 mantle in a number of years time). Ditto the reporter slot - who out there is better than Lee McKenzie? She's been interviewing the drivers for the last 7 years, has had time to develop good rapport and she is an excellent broadcaster to boot. Having her on board to assist with steering the ship (especially given Steve Jones is new to sports broadcasting) is a very good move. So I'm really impressed with the C4 line-up. Really excited for the start of the season now, and seeing how it will all shape up on-screen. I think it will basically be a slightly-refreshed version of the BBC F1 product. And that's no bad thing, because the BBC's coverage was largely excellent. |

I hope they allow Karun to interrupt/contribute live from the pitlane during the race like James Allen used to and Ted does. I'm guessing the extra camera/RF equipment should make that possible.
It's been strange recently having commentators just throw to Tom Clarkson for a platitude. Hope to see an Alex Zanardi, Hamilton, Last Leg tie-up, although frankly I'd watch Alex Zanardi doing anything. |

On the way back from the press launch now. Really brilliant morning.
You got the feeling of genuine excitement in the air this morning, let's not forget that C4 have had three months to put this all together whereas BBC and Sky previously have had a lot longer. |
