I don't think i've ever seen PIP on a uk PSB show though, so I'm wondering if it's forbidden in some way by someone.
BT Sport use PIP during the football to show the live action while a replay is being shown.
Also don't Sky or BT use a 50/50 diagonal split screen/PIP to show betting odds just before the start of the game?

On the PIP discussion, how is it that BT Sport have got away with a PIP (actually more of a split-screen) advert just before kick-off in their live Premier League matches? Did they get special dispensation from Ofcom to do this? Sky have one advert pre-kick-off too, but this is always full-screen. I quite like the BT method personally, but I've never seen it anywhere else on UK television (apart from text-based information during ad breaks).
The only thing I can say is that BT & Sky are subscription services, and even if they weren't, they're still not Public Service broadcasters (Unike the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 & Channel 5). So I would imagine rules are less stringent for non-PSBs.

Read my original post! I said PSBs! BT & Sky are not public service broadcasters! I would imagine the rules are less strict for non-PSBs.

You weren't around in the 80s then.

Fairly random question, but do we know yet if C4 plan to show the practice sessions of their live races on the main channel or do we have to wait until the provisional schedules for the weekend of Bahrain to find out the answer?
I'm hoping to get an answer to the exact scheduling soon but practice will be on Channel 4 where possible.

Was going to say that I think it was a bit classless of Suzi Perry to chuck out an 'I'm really unhappy with the BBC' interview yesterday, which presumably deliberately went out on the same day as C4's launch. I completely understand why she would be extremely unhappy with the BBC, but that's not C4's fault, and putting an interview out to undermine the new broadcaster seems to be petty in the extreme.

At least the Daily Express did the basic research, like the amount of time she had been in the role. Oh, wait....

Cheers.

It'll be interesting to see just how much C4 are willing to disrupt their usual Friday schedule.

The race is live on BT Sport Europe for this weekend only. ITV4 have live snooker instead.

Not necessarily her fault, the Daily Express will have decided when to publish it and what comments to quote and give preference to.

Yeah, fair enough and good point. She clearly did the interview at the launch of the Sport Relief sailing project that she's doing this week. Perhaps I was a bit harsh on her.

They've not lost the rights to live races; just a clash of events on ITV4.
There wasn't going to be any live tv coverage until BT Sport got the rights for it as a one off.
The race is live for UK viewers online on the Formula E website and YouTube too.

They haven't lost the rights. The World Snooker Grand Prix is on at the same time and ITV4 have opted to show live coverage of that instead, probably due to the poor figures Formula E has had so far this season.

To summarise then, there's still a "Prix" happening, but just not the kind of one we're interested in.

According my LocateTV schedules, qualifying highlights is from 12:30pm-1:30pm, the reason why it's just an hour is due to the Cheltenham Festival coverage, while race highlights is from 1:30pm-3:45pm.
Nothing to do with Cheltenham coverage, per se. The Festival ends on Friday. C4 Racing starts at 1.30 most Saturdays.

Ok, understand now. Had not even noticed the snooker.
Pretty poor that from ITV, they could have easily used itv3 (repeats all day of lewis/midsummer/frost) for a one off day.
The live race is on at Saturday night prime time tv, so would have got a better audience than delayed at 11:15pm. Who makes these decisions!

Real shame that its getting low figures as the race production, apps and commentary team are the best I feel out there at the moment.
The racing is unique so sometimes hard to compare. But I'm really enjoying it all.

Will Formula E have the entire race on demand somewhere? I'm guessing not, so will have to resort to 'other methods' to watch it

It's live on their own website for UK viewers. Also on YouTube and Dailymotion.
And in full after the snooker at 11:15 on ITV4

Links to the various official streams, The Youtube/Dailymotion streams are in 1080 HD, On there website they stream in 960x540 & call it HD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUNiVhRzBeg
http://www.fiaformulae.com/en/live-streaming.aspx
http://www.dailymotion.com/FIAFormulaE

The Youtube stream (Which includes Practice/Qualifying & the race) usually goes OnDemand once the live coverage ends, Unless its Geo-blocked (Which this weekend it won't be). Interestingly the last 2 races were not Geo-Blocked in the UK either:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQPZXPGnus8

They also put up 50 minute highlight packages on Youtube a few days after the race & I believe they are available worldwide.

Channel 4's highlights for Australia...

Qualifying - 12:30 to 14:15
Race - 13:30 to 16:00

Very intrigued to see the edit for the race show. I won't be surprised if the edits are only for the ad breaks (I.E. 4 minutes of ads has 6 minutes action removed).

Surely the contract will continue to insist on a maximum number of race minutes per year...?

Pinkham has tweeted that Sky Sports are merging F1 Show and Midweek Report into a show called F1 Report and that it's on tonight.

Yes.

But the viewer won't notice as much as the BBC days, because a 70 minute race edit will take roughly 90/95 minutes of air time (hence it'll feel like ITV's race programme for the highlights).

If I still had Sky I'd say that was a positive change. The non-race F1 Show had become pretty painful.

OK, which of formulae.com, Youtube and Dailymotion will be best to watch the Mexico race, or will it all be much of a muchness?
