That's certainly not the FOCA/FOM one. I wonder who originally produced that review? And whether it was done at the time, or done later?

I notice it looks like that Sky's copy is taken from a (albeit very good) VHS source by the sounds of things... Simon Taylor makes me think it was a 1995/6 BBC one?

The 1994 version of these "alternative" reviews was much much better than the original official 94 review

Be nice to hear him again with these interviews, been too long.

Did watch that Chatty Man thing (well FF to the F1 bit),. Good grief, what utter garbage.
Suppose they had to appear on there as it was C4.
Coulthard went way down in my view. Did not realise how pathetic and vulgar he can be. That Steve Jones guy was very quiet and has a very mumbled voice, maybe his mic was not working.
So C4 F1 will be dumbed down then like many have been saying, shame!”

Very barrel-scraping. C4 down the tubes before a series session of coverage. Jesus.

IMO the Official F1 reviews were only good from 1998 to 2002 when they started to jazz it up with slo-mos, music etc. and turned it into an actual excitement rather than just the "Narrator telling you what's happening" then "Clip of it happening" format.

People seem to dislike the "Present-tense" commentary those reviews used, but I feel it makes it more exciting. I know I certainly wouldn't want the original TV commentary used, because I would have already seen that on the TV, I'd want a different perspective on the reviews.

World Superbikes Thailand/ERC Islas Canarias/NSCS Las Vegas

While the American open-wheel season begins (Indycar) and the electric racing series (Formula E) heads to Mexico for the first time the attention on two wheels turns to to the stage with the World Superbike Championship heads to Thailand for the second round of the 2016 season. Jonathan Rea took both races at Phillip Island thanks to last-gasp mistakes from his fellow rivals, he also dominated this round last year so all eyes will be on him.

Again Eurosport will show the race live with the presenting team in the UK Studios and commentary from James Whitham and Jack Burnicle. The only difference is that coverage is shunted to Eurosport 2 due to winter sports on Eurosport 1 although thanks to this the highlights will be on Eurosport 1 instead, the schedules on the site though are slightly incorrect so I will post the correct ones below.

Also on Eurosport is the first round of the slightly delayed European Rally Championship although the scheduling for day 1 is quite poor with highlights being shown at 12:30am in the morning.. The Eurosport 2 repeats is no better as well although the review is better placed thankfully and all the best bits can be seen on Eurosport Player.

Finally we have the NSCS from Las Vegas and Premier Sports is giving the usual no mid-race adverts treatment, the only note I have to give is that due to the time changes in America the race is an hour earlier for us UK viewers!

Below is the schedule you need for this weekend's underdog's:

World Superbikes:
12/3/16: World Superbikes Superpole/Race 1 Live: 6:15am-10:15am (Eurosport 2)
12/3/16: World Superbikes Superpole/Race 1 Replay: 4pm-6pm (Eurosport 1)
13/3/16: World Superbikes Race 2 Live: 7am-10:15am (Eurosport 2)
13/3/16: World Superbikes Race 2 Replay: 4pm-6pm (Eurosport 1)

European Rally Championship:
12/3/16: ERC Rally Canarias Day 1: 12:30am-1am (Eurosport 1/Player)
12/3/16: ERC Rally Canarias Review: 10:30pm-10:55pm (Eurosport 1/Player)
15/3/16: Inside ERC: 11:05pm-11:35pm (Eurosport 1/Player)

NSCS Vegas:
13/3/16: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt 400: 7pm-11pm (Premier Sports)

If anything changes I will update this post

Live WSB is usually on ES2 anyway?

(in fact it threw me at the first round with quali / Race 1 on ES1)

Round 1 was on Eurosport 1 because there was nothing clashing with it, this round is on Eurosport 2 due to clashes with skiing.

Make sure you make the phone call to BT, as you have to let them know you are adding your sub to a mini. The offer is they give you the multi screen on the mini now for free.
Also your bill gets halved to £9.99 a month for all the BT sport channels if you take it for 12 months. Some only got a 6 month deal rising to £13.99, so negotiate hard.
Only place I think in the UK for for the Indycar.”

Do you have to have BT broadband for that offer? I currently pay £23.99/month for BT Sport...

Nope irony was there, was fighting fire with fire, probably could have done with a smilie or two admittedly.

Hugely respect Brundle and Hill for their Broadcasting and F1 careers, and also respect Herbert for his F1 career .

I do think it's a fair comment that Sky's main pundit team have a similar background, wereas Channel 4 have gone for a wide range of backgrounds which will allow them to bring the most appropriate people in to comment on a story. For me the situation is similar to Match Of The Day a few years back, where, although it had been bubbling away for a while, almost overnight there was a groundswell of opinion that the punditry was incredibly stale and the BBC eventually responded and made changes. That to me is the situation with Sky - it just all seems so tired IMO and, especially in comparison with what Channel 4 is promising, desperately needs a refresh. Look at the video they've just posted - "Fight of the mind" - full team sat around a table in a bar - yet it's edited down to just Hill and (especially) Herbert's quite tired and obvious opinions, as if this is tremendous insight they are offering us. The rest are just there as nodding dogs.

Now I'm not saying that their opinion's aren't valid - it's just Sky desperately needs to have a voice more relevant to the current setup of F1 in there as well. There is no-one in that clip who's turned a wheel in anger in F1 for over 15 years. That can't be right surely? They need an Ant Davidson / Paul De Resta figure in there full time on equal billing will the older drivers. But I sense with budgets being cut and contract coming up for renewal there's no desire to upset the apple cart.

I know the videos C4 are posting of DC and Jones played Scalextric aren't going to win many fans here over either mind...

No, it's for sky broadband users, as its tied around sky q and that's only available to sky broadband users at the moment.
Sky q is only available so far for sky broadband users, Time for sky to get going with the Air ties mesh technology. Later will be the release to non sky broadband users, who can have sky q but not the full mesh benefits.

It was produced by FOCA alongside the official VHS review. It seems they used to produce 2 reviews, The VHS review which was longer & featured a lot of unseen content & a 2nd 60min review which stuck mostly to footage straight from the world feed. From what I gather this alternative review was produced for the purpose of tv broadcast & not released on VHS.

They also use a lot of the same music that was used in the VHS reviews.

Sky tended to cut it off but the same reviews were broadcast on Viasat & they included the FOCA copyright screen at the end just like the VHS reviews did.

I've put the 1993, 1994 & 1997 reviews up in the past.

Ahh Interesting! Yes it certainly looks like the shorter ones were designed for TV, the VHS ones are much more comprehensive.

I also remember Sky airing edited versions of the VHS season reviews too, can't remember what years though.

Interesting to note that you can see virtual ads (albeit only on the digital feed, not the world feed as shown here) in use from as early as Australia 1997, it's hardly new :P

I notice the V8 Supercars had virtual trackside ads in too, last week. They had CGI catch fencing around some of the corners with sponsors logos on.

I've seen this now in four different surveys over the last few weeks, is there any significance, is this not the case now?

Saw these ones demoed the other day for V8 supercars;
https://youtu.be/-9lzpjrmLss

The f1 ones tend to look pretty poor quality.

The ones for Fox at Daytona were special though;

Those of you surprised at DC making a lewd joke on Chatty Man (I've not seen it yet, will try to catch up with it over the weekend) have obviously forgotten some of his 'moments' when he was a racing driver, before he became a pundit.

Suggesting that he imagined the pit-lane speed limiter was Louise Goodman's nipples live on ITV, suggesting that on A Question of Sport the link to a 'what do these sportsmen have in common' round was that they'd all slept with his ex-girlfriend and saying that he'd kick 'several colours of shit out of the little bastard' (ref. Seb Vettel) after they'd had a collision (again, live on ITV).

He's always had a great sense of humour and whilst he's been pretty 'straight' on the TV when he's done his punditry work I'm not at all surprised that he was able to turn on the dirty jokes when in a situation when they were appropriate. Nor do I think it's a bad thing at all.

Big thanks for the indycar stream links, nice to see support races.
The formula e youtube stream working well but shame its only 720p. Works great with sky q airplay.
Have the indy one 720p on a second tv with chromecast.
Going to be youtube mania for the next 5/6 hours.
Will have to have the rugby and facup on sky go and iPlayer on other tablets.
For those on boards, do you have four vlc loaded up side by side on a pc? Thinking I might do that on my Win tablet as running out of devices

FOM Fan: the V8 Supercars have had these virtual ads for years; but because they do them in a way that blends in and isn't obtuse you only notice them standing out more in the rain as (for some reason) the wet makes them look odd.

Have to say that I don't think much of the layout that Formula E are running for the Mexico race this weekend. The chicanes are far too tight & i'd be amazed if turn 1 isn't a complete & utter mess on the 1st lap.

No Dario Franchitti this weekend so its Scott Speed alongside Jack Nicholls on commentary.

They have put an OnBoard lap on twitter:

Ah, okay - sky tv, virgin bb, bt sport ... No offers for me !

BTW - this may be of interest to some: Indy car is back on ESPN player this season - excluding UK, Italy, France - but you can access with a VPN. €49.99 for the season; €8.99/month; or €4.99/race.
