The new ESPN IndyCar graphics are virtually identical to the current FOM design.

Pics? I'd be interested to see a comparison. I wonder if they got the same design agency to work on it

Ahh i've just seen a clip. Interesting. They're certainly similar in the positioning of the lap counter & the "white text on semi-transparent dark grey rectangular box" format, but the Pitstop time counter is completely different.

I really like them though, take up a lot less space than the old one and is very clean. One surprise though is they kept a scrolling ticker rather than scoreboard like one and the replay wipes are mainly the same.

The top bar reminds me of F1's graphics.

The rest of it, not so.

The graphics are in keeping with other sports covered by ESPN in the USA; they have been a lot cleaner since last autumn.
The international feed graphics (which will be seen during NBC races) remain unchanged from last year.

Have you seen ESPN BottomLine? Takes up a ton of space at the bottom, they really should make it smaller or remove it during a live broadcast and only display it when there is breaking news. Showing it during a repeat is fine but not during a live broadcast..

Or just back to ESPN HD.
They don't have BT TV AMC on the screen for AMC, they have a diff name on the EPG but why plaster the screen with a logo so huge!!

And that bottom ticker is atrocious!

I still hate how ABC/ESPN insist on showing the OnBoards in that split screen layout. Its especially annoying when there showing replays of an accident & the boxes are so small that you can't properly see the contact.

This image is from last year but there using the same layout for this year:

The good old days when it was just 'ESPN HD' on the screen.....

Agreed. BT acquired the name and have to keep it, so i guess they don't want you to forget that 'its our channel really' and we end up with the awful alphabet soup that is BTESPNHD.

I miss the days when ESPN (America) was just that, nowadays things jump from one channel in the group to another. For instance, why was the Mexico ePrix on BTS Europe? I thought that channel was supposed to be for the Euro-football championships.

Because there was live sports on the other channels so BTSE was the only available channel otherwise it would have been dumped behind BTSX.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned in the thread or not, but I've somehow only just heard the story about a commercial deal still yet to be made between Haas and FOM.

The above article is from February 25th, but according to the guy who broke the story, a deal is still yet to be confirmed.

To go along with this, apparently there's been no Haas on-track footage shown by FOM at all on their YouTube channel/official website thus far, although I'm not entirely sure if this is 100% true. I wonder if they'll be completely ignored by the World Feed next weekend then? Hope not...

I wonder if that has any relevance as to why Grosjean had to remove his testing videos:

They have shown footage of Haas on f1.com, They covered the car launch & showed footage of the car on track over the 2 weeks of testing.

Id be amazed if by now, a week to go to Australia they haven't sorted the deal out.
Some serious questions will be asked if they haven't

Take the AMC channel: Onscreen it is branded as 'AMC' but on the EPG it is listed as 'AMC from BT' so what is stopping them do the same with ESPN?
Apart from ego of course......

Yeah, the YouTube channel shows a fraction of the stuff that's posted (still for free 90% of the time) over on the Main F1 website. Think of the YouTube channel as a "Best of" F1 Access, or something like that, I dunno.

People are probably missing the exclusive videos FOM put in their regular news articles on the F1 website too, usually before or after the race: http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-...ildest-ra.html

BTW its disappointing to see that all of the classic races Sky are showing over the next week are races that have been shown several times before over the past 2 years.

1994 Japanese Gp & 1986, 1994, 1996, 2003 & 2010 Australian Gp's.

When they announced they were showing classic races they said they had access to everything going back to 1981 & there are a lot of races from that time which they have not shown yet. It would be nice to see some new races put into the rotation instead of seeing the same one's repeated over & over.

To be honest I'd love to see them stop showing random races & start showing full seasons. Start with 1981, Show a race a day or something & work through each year, Including full races where possible.

Also, the lack of the commercial deal is less to do with TV time, but more to do with the prize & TV money that gets given to Haas. Think of it as this, if you have a contract with FOM, FOM are basically paying you so that they can film you. Without it, FOM can still film Haas, Haas just won't get TV money from them. So FOM doesn't really lose out re. Haas without a commercial agreement in place.
