Nothing fake about good camera positions.

But F1 shouldn't rely on camera positions to generate excitement!

No one factor makes F1 exciting or unexciting, it's a combination of things. I don't know why you would argue against F1 having the best possible camera work.

I don't think the examples others have given are the best possible examples of camera work though, I feel they value style over substance & would make the sport more visually disorientating & difficult to follow.

Setanta could use BBC 5 Live's, Channel 4's or Sky Sports F1's commentary.

I have only seen one comment about it, a guy emailed Setanta and they said they were using BBC 5 Live's commentary.

DMN may be able to shed more light on the matter.

60 min delay or 60 minute highlights? There's a big difference!

C4's preview of the season is a mere five minutes on Friday evening - is that it?

I guess they're running promos but I can't say I've seen any. I know they've not had a great deal of time to set everything up but all seems very quiet publicity-wise.

There was a tv ad promoting it last night on Film4 with a Murray voiceover.

I've been hearing regular ads on Absolute Radio too. And a Sky F1 ad, but only the once.

That sort of thing. My enjoyment of a race is solely based on my ability to follow & understand what's going on track, WHY stuff is happening. Not simply how....”

You've said this before, but I personally still fail to see how GP2/Formula E/bike racing don't give exactly the same context about the state of the race and the championship as Formula 1 does.

Indeed. Stick a single camera with a long lens on a hill overlooking the track and have done with it.

GP2: I don't know which teams & drivers are the best or where their strengths/weaknesses lie, so I don't know when a driver overtakes a car, whether it was an easy overtake or a difficult one, so I don't know whether I should be going "WOW, THAT WAS AWESOME!" or "Meh, surprised it took that long for him to get past" whenever I see an overtake for example.

Formula E: I don't understand how the cars work, and how Kwatts, battery etc. (that I see on the graphics) influence the performance of the cars, so I don't know whether a car is running at full pelt or not.

MotoGP: Similar to GP2, and plus I don't understand anything technical of how the bikes work so I struggle to put into context what i'm seeing on screen.

Hondas punch out of the slow corners better; Yamaha corner better; Ducatis tend to have the highest top speed down the straights. Suzuki and Aprilia are still finding their way into the mix. And jockey-sized Dani Pedrosa is crap in the braking zone but uses his superior power to weigh ratio to get great starts off the line.

I'd happily watch a whole race from a (zoomable) birds-eye cam above the entire circuit.

So are they fully manufacturer backed teams? And do you get privateer teams too? or do all teams have to construct their own bikes? And who does Valentino Rossi race for now?

Sorry FOM Fan, I'm pretty sure you've got the cause and effect wrong here. You're fundamentally not that interested in GP2, FE, Moto GP, which is why you don't "get" what's going on in them - it's not the other way round.

No, i'm not interested in them *because* I can't understand them. I would be interested in it if I could. Although I have to say, I don't really care for championships which are purely driver-focused. I mean I don't give a toss who wins the F1 championship for example, I only care for the constructors.

So how do you know who's the best F1 constructor?

Combination of pace, reliability & adaptability to conditions, as well as the ability to design a car well, consistently & manage its staff & finances well.

What wrong with that? You get all those right, and you're likely to win races. (I was including drivers in 'Staff' btw. If you have a crap driver, they're obviously gonna weigh you down...)

*Sigh*...sorry to be tiresome but how is that different from Moto GP and how does the TV broadcast get all that across in F1 that they don't (apparently) get across in e.g. MotoGP?

Well it isn't different, but i've been watching F1 since 1997... So over time the knowledge builds up. Also it helped that pre-2001, Murray was good at explaining things to the casual viewer better than i've seen any MotoGP commentators do.

Nothing wrong with that

BTW: Are we all getting into a stroppy bollox because FOM Fan has a different opinion than the lot of you.
